Breaking the Stigma: Surviving with OCD and Panic Disorder Life has not been a life of living, but enduring. I’m starting an experimental blog to share some of my experiences and hopefully help others. Simply put, I’ll be posting about daily struggles (and hopefully progress at some point) living with debilitating OCD, panic disorder, health anxiety, major depressive disorder, PTSD — all from the perspective of a late-diagnosed autistic adult. Fender & I have slowly over the past week been building a bond & getting to know each other. Figuring out each other’s strengths & weaknesses. Still have until Wednesday to bring my gentle giant home to introduce him to my home & slowly have him know what my life is like outside of #guidedogs tomorrow we’re going to the mall. This guy was bigger than I was expecting but is a big teddy bear. Hopefully the other fur animals will welcome him into our home with purring sounds(probably not at first) who knows what’s to come with this guy. Fender is my #seizureresponsedog & will be continuing to train until he retires so we can continue to make our bond stronger & stronger while he works. It’ll be amazing to have another fur animal in the home during the day throughout the week while I’m alone to give me company, make sure I’m safe & give me the independence I need to leave my home without my family stressing something bad could happen if I have a seizure or anxiety attack. 🌟 High-Functioning Anxiety: The Double-Edged Sword 🌟 🌷Having high-functioning anxiety can be both a blessing and a challenge. On the bright side, it makes you incredibly productive, detail-oriented, and reliable. But it can also lead to overthinking, perfectionism, and burnout. 🌷The truth is, people with HFA put on a show most of the time and are always feeling extreme anxiety. An HFA person may appear level-headed, calm, and to have it “all together.” 🌷This ‘appearance’ of being “perfect” can take a toll on your daily life and you may notice a need for constant reassurance, ruminating thoughts that tend to dwell on the negative (“What if?” thoughts and dwelling on past mistakes), and the inability to say “No,” (you have an overloaded schedule that makes you constantly busy). 🌷You may begin to think “nothing I ever do is good enough...I need to achieve more.” This type of anxious thought pattern catches up with you eventually and creates burnout and you may completely shutdown. 🌷Also, just because you struggle with HFA does not mean that you are “bad” at dealing with life stress, it just means you may need some extra support.
