Continuining this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week theme which was “Movement”, I hosted a beginner friendly fitness class at my workplace to get those endorphins rolling. Grateful to have put my knowledge into practice and contribute to the wellbeing of the community 🖤 Give it a try: Squat Stand with feet parallel or slightly turned out. Bend hips and knees until thighs are parallel to the floor, keeping heels on the ground. Press through heels to stand. Add a pulse at the bottom for more difficulty. Squat + Shoulder Rotations Perform a squat as described above, adding a shoulder rotation at the top of the movement. Knee to Chest Run in place, lifting knees toward the chest with each step, maintaining a jogging rhythm. Curtsy Lunge Step the left leg back behind the right leg, bending knees and lowering hips until the right thigh is almost parallel to the floor. Keep torso upright and hips square. Calf Raise + Lat Pull Down Rise up on toes from a standing position, keeping knees straight and heels off the floor. Hold briefly, then lower heels. Simultaneously, lift hands in a W position, squeezing shoulder blades as you return heels to the floor. Sumo Squat Stand with feet wider than shoulder-width, toes pointing out. Lower body by bending knees and pushing hips back. Keep chest up and weight in heels. Push through heels to stand. Shoulder Blades Retraction Bend forward with knees slightly bent and back straight. Squeeze shoulder blades, lift arms with thumbs up, and move arms above the head. Bring arms back down, maintaining tension in the upper back. Hi all! It’s been a while and I’ve been working on something.. well a couple of things 😬🥹 In January we became a family of 5 and welcomed our 3rd baby into this world 💓 Her siblings absolutely adore her and dad and I are head over heels for her! The perfect addition to our family!! We took much needed down time after her arrival and spent all of our time soaking in the cuddles, tiny toes, newborn cries, sleepless nights, healing, and learning our new normal as a family of five. A little love bubble you wish you could stay in forever.. minus the sleepless nights. After a lot of thought, a lot of planning and creating.. and after being cleared by the doctor to resume my regular day to day workout routine.. I started to build a 4 week workout program with the intention of it being the perfect place to just START! I was in a stage of life where I was just beginning again and wanted to not only document but share what I was doing to get started again in hopes of being able to help others begin their journeys to a healthier, happier version of themselves! My goal is to inspire those of all different lifestyles and fitness levels to get moving and stay moving because movement is medicine!! 9+ years of being a fitness instructor/personal trainer and into motherhood, my passion holds very true in helping others navigate their journeys to reaching their personal goals; while also finding balance in building a routine they can consistently show up for! Are you aware that I teach a LIVE fitness class for Fitness Beginners on Zoom twice a week? Mondays and Thursdays @ noon, eastern. It’s true. We use minimal equipment: a chair and (maybe) little dumbbells (canned goods also totally work— that what I usually use). Whatever weight resistance that works for you is great! Class is recorded for folks that can’t make that time, and I just email out the recording the next day. It starts as a chair workout and we build to a standing strength workout. We focus on balance, strength, coordination and endurance. You can totally do this! It’s pay-what-you-will. Suggested $5/class or $20 for the whole month. But I’ve also been known accept $1 a class. It’s ok! Really! I just want folks to be able to access fitness education, if they want it. There’s also an option to add on to the class (for a suggested additional $2 a class or additional $10 for the month): a core circuit and standing strength/balance or strength/cardio circuit. The add-on class happens RIGHT after the first— there’s about a one min pause in between. Some folks take class while on a break at work, most take from home, some keep their cameras off, some turn their cameras on. It’s all good. And every month a portion of the proceeds of Super Beginner (and my more advanced class, Super Saturday) go to a charity that helps folks find fitness. This month we are donating to @yogaforyouth In July we’ll celebrate our fourth anniversary of this class running continuously— twice every week! A lot of people who are just starting out with the gym think that they will see progress more or less overnight - or at least quicker than the truth. You have to put in the work to see results. After 4 weeks, you'll start to feel it. After 6 weeks, you'll start to notice it. And after 8 weeks, others will start to notice it. Results are ongoing too - I'm still working on myself, even though I've been gyming for so many years! The best way to think about it that slow and steady wins the rest. You will get to where you want to be, whether that's on a weight loss, weight gain, bulking or PB / PR journey, over time. I love running outdoors, here’s 3 reasons why: 1. It’s a great way to clear your mind. Sitting inside all day, especially behind a screen isn’t very healthy for body AND mind. Running outdoors give me a reason to switch off, connect with nature and eventually with myself again. 2. Fresh air, nature, natural daylight - good for your skin, eyes and lungs. Do I need to say more? 3. The variety, running inside is so boring. I love to experience different surroundings, adapt to the surface I’m running on, going up- down hill, etc. Next to that, running is free and super effective for your health.
