Client Progress - Nic, 51 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚: 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝟏: -1400 calories or less -High blood pressure medication -High Cholesterol -High Gout Markers -Niggling hip pain where she had to manage with anti - inflammatory -Long walks and running would induced hip pain the next day. 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝟐𝟎: -1800 - 2200 calories -No more medication -Normal Blood Pressure -Normal Levels -Hip pain reduced to 2/10 and can now deadlift 70kgs and started to do small amounts of running. 𝐁𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬: -Live in rural Queensland, in a remote town where the closest town is about 1 hour away. -Manages a group of teachers who help kids with special needs in a rural remote town -Works out in home small home gym, 3 days per week (2 days strength + 1 day rehab) -Eats 3 meals + 2 snacks, between 1800 - 2200 calories -Some days are good, some bad days. Sumo deadlift. 365/166x6 (tie PR), 365/166x5 (RPE10). The reel highlighted the fail, so the post is about the success. I tied my 6RM PR from December and improved on the follow up set with 5 reps instead of 4. I took an extra warmup set since I wasn’t sure about my energy levels (still recovering from food poisoning last weekend) but of course that meant some additional energy expenditure. Compromises… And those last reps were very sumo “stiff legged deadlift” adjacent as my foot placement kept shifting and the bar got a bit far out away from my body. This was the last deadlift sesh for this training block, so definitely some areas of improvement for the next one. Late next week is the start of a deload which coincides with our Midwest road trip. 🚗 P.S. Last slide highlights the lack of weight plate options I had. Certainly doesn’t help with my weight plate OCD. But did require utilizing my math skills. 😆

I had a patient tell me a story about how she was the “good girl” growing up. Who else here is, too, a recovering ‘Good Girl or Guy?’🙋‍♀️ It didn’t matter what facet of life I was obliging, I wanted to oblige because I wanted to be ‘The Good Girl.’ ‘Good Girls’ were accepted & safe. They did what was expected of them. ‘Nice’ was accepted & safe. If you’re ’Nice’ then everyone has to like you, right?! ‘Vanilla’ was accepted & safe. It’s like the default choice because you can’t make up your mind what ice cream flavor you want. It’s bland & watered down. The problem I found as I aged, was ‘Good’ & ‘Nice’ & ‘Vanilla’ didn’t get me anywhere of substance. In fact, I have a distaste of the words ‘Good,’ ‘Nice,’ & ‘Vanilla.’ They’re different than being described as high-value, kind, & exquisite. I feel they’re the default, like settling. It’s like being someone’s side b*tch. You want someone that sees you as ‘The One’ — the one that walks in a room & sparkles. Everyone stares. Stop choosing people who treat you as the default. My definition of ‘Good Girlitis’ is the unproductive thoughts, feelings, & behaviors that inhibit one’s potential, growth, perception, & enjoyment of the experience & entirety of life. So think about this if you feel you’re living a half lived life as a watered down version of yourself. Time for a little reminder In 2019 I lost weight for the final time, after years of disordered eating and inconsistent training I made a pact to myself that I would get "skinny"... and I did- but skinny equals deprivation, skinny equals anxiety, sleepless nights- self hatred- maintaining skinnny = inevitable failure 18 months ago I added weight training into my life and I will never go bak to before ! If you’re lacking movement motivation today, hear me out. Sometimes I don’t feel like exercising. I don’t always feel in the mood to move, even though it’s my job. But…I know I always feel better when I have moved my body. Sometimes, even when I can’t be bothered, I incorporate bitesize movements into my day rather than a specific ‘workout’. For me, this is generally walking or stretching but for you, it could include: ⚪️Doing some step-ups on the bottom stair. ⚪️Doing 5 minutes of squats while watching a video on Instagram ⚪️A round of push-ups using the kitchen worktop as a bench ⚪️A short walk with the dog Over the course of a day I’ll try and make sure I have moved for at least an hour but I’ve done it on my terms. Look, this isn’t some “… and then I became a bodybuilder!” bollocks body transformation post. 😝 Not even close. A photo popped up from 4 years ago, and it shocked me how atrophied my body had become. Was I addicted to running? Worried about gaining weight? Still suffering with disordered eating? Afraid of lifting weights? 🤔 Probably a toxic soup of all of the above. 👆 I was 42 years old and at high risk of osteoporosis, various other deficiencies, and I was heading blindly towards a health scenario with my lumbar spine in 2021 - including back pain & a bulge in the disc at my L5S1 vertebrate - which would shock me into making some big changes. I’m standing here in my normal jeans and a regular top. I’m not posing in a bikini with a spray tan 😂 but even I can see the difference in my body and I can feel it in my physical strength every single day. 💪 So, here’s what’s happened in the years since: 💥 I’m not addicted to running 💥 I don’t fear gaining weight 💥 I have a healthy attitude and relationship to food 💥 I love strength training. While waiting for the rain to subside I started off with the usual dynamic stretches and warm up before heading out. Took less than 10mins. Workout for today is 200m intervals as many reps until fatigued. Slightly windy conditions but happy to get that done and dusted. Followed by abs and lower body strength session.
