As a therapist, this is something I hear often. 💬 We can't just do something to get rid of our anxiety. Our brains don't work that way. And it can be really frustrating when you do the things that you 'should' do and they don't 'work'. In ACT we look at changing our relationship with our anxiety rather than changing the anxiety itself. This makes more sense with what we know about our brains. I am a psychotherapist specialising in ACT for anxiety. If you are ready to transform anxiety into peace then DM the word 'therapy'. I have current online slots for people living in the UK. #Worry #GAD #perfectionism #highfunctioninganxiety #CBT #ACT #Psychotherapy #grovemind #anxietysupport #therapistofig #overthinking #anxietymyths

There are a lot of myths out there about anxiety! I'm here to help bust a few of them. - Understandably, one of the most common things I hear is that 'I want to control my anxiety'. Unfortunately anxiety is something that we can't control. However, in therapy you can learn how to change your response to anxiety which often means it will effect you less. - It feels like we are on show when we are anxious. However, most of the time we are caught up in our own stuff and don't necessarily notice what is going on with others. Even if we do notice, most of the symptoms of anxiety are internal and will go unnoticed. - Anxiety is not a sign of weakness. All humans experience it at times. - Although we can't get rid of anxiety altogether we can definitely learn ways to change our relationship with it. We can live a rich and meaningful full life with our anxiety. Often when we start doing this, our anxiety bothers us less. - The physical symptoms of anxiety are not usually harmful. They might feel very uncomfortable but they are part of a natural human survival response. What other myths do you hear about anxiety? . Ever heard these before?? 🤦‍♀️ Me too 👋 Let me drop some truths for you though. 1️⃣ anxiety is actually NOT a choice! It’s an auto pilot reaction to stress. Choices come from the frontal cortex (which is OFFLINE when we’re actively triggered) while anxiety comes from the limbic system (our “survival brain”) 2️⃣ you actually CAN’T use rationality to ease anxiety I can’t tell you how many anxious people I’ve worked with (myself included) that are GREAT at thinking rationally… But they don’t BELIEVE their rational thoughts. Since anxiety comes from an activated survival brain, rationality doesn’t help a whole lot. Why? Because the survival brain literally doesn’t have the capacity to be rational. 3️⃣ you just need to let it go I love any opportunity to randomly start belting out LET IT GOOO… And doing so might actually ease my anxiety because singing tones the vagus nerve; and good vagal tone=nervous system regulation But trying to “just let it go” by dismissing anxious thoughts or feelings will actually make anxiety WORSE! Even if dismissing anxiety in the moment helps a little… it’ll probably start wreaking havoc on your relationships and your physical health. 🙃 🙋‍♀️ so let me ask you, which of these truths is most surprising to you?? Let’s talk about it! Looking for a therapist in CA? I’m accepting clients now. #anxietytherapy #anxietyhelp #anxietytreatment #anxietysupport #californiatherapist #therapyincalifornia #anxietymyths #anxietytruths #mentalhealththerapist

Fears of dying, losing control or having a heart attack can be symptoms of a panic attack. Panic attacks are fear false alarms which escalate based on our interpretations of the physical sensations experienced and the amount of attention paid to internal experiences. The interpretation part is important when it comes to down regulating the cycle of panic and learning to sit with and tolerate the experience rather than run from it. As noted in the post, your physician is an important part of this picture, err on the side of caution first and use this information if applies to you and your own symptoms. #panic #panicattack #panicattacks #panicdisorder #anxiety #anxietymyths #mentalhealthtips #clinicalpsychologist #mentalhealthawareness #newgirl #nickmiller #jakejohnson #fightflightfreeze #anxietydisorders #anxietytips #cbtworks #evidencebasedtherapy #psychologistsofinstagram #therapistsofinstagram #copingwithanxiety #panicorheartattack

Did you know there is a difference between stress and anxiety? Stress is an external threat (real or perceived) to your overall wellbeing. Anxiety is an internal response, a persistent feeling of fear and/or worry, often times regardless of any actual external threats. As a creative, stress and anxiety will sometimes (often) want to walk with you, hand in hand. So here is how I look at it, and this has helped me cope better... Stress = External Aggravator: Tackle it head-on with practical actions like exercise and task breakdowns. Anxiety = Internal Intruder: Kick it to the curb with mindfulness, self-compassion, and a healthy dose of questioning those sneaky thoughts. Stress management seems pretty intutitve but here are some mindfulness practices that I use to keep my anxiety at bay... Journal practice: writing about my feelings and reactions daily. Patterns tend to emerge, helping me to pinpoint any triggers. Body Scans: Paying attention to tense muscles, headaches, or stomach issues and responding with gentle stretches, massage or even compassionate conversations with said body part and a showering of gratitude for its service to my overall wellbeing. Daily Rewind: Before bed, I like to review the day, visualizing it as if i was watching a movie in high-speed, reverse motion. Not only does it help me identify moments that triggered frustration or tension, but also helps me to reflect on mini-successes throughout the day as well. Its about balance. Helps me strategize solutions. AND, little wins to celebrate along the way. FWIW, I spent two long days at a mental wellness conference last week but walked away feeling more frustrated than refreshed, and thus (being who I am) spent the entire weekend in deep reflection, contemplating whether or not I should share more quips and tips from my own resilience toolkit...let me know in the comments whether this kind of content is helpful. And if you have a fave mental wellness routine, let me know about it! #mindfulmonday #stresstest #anxietysupport #mentalwellnesschallenge #emotionalresilience #emotionalintelligence #evencowgirlsgettheblues

Anxiety is a natural response as a human. It's our body's way of alerting us to potential threats or challenges, a kind of internal alarm system that's been with us since our ancient ancestors. When faced with a stressful situation, our "fight or flight" response kicks in, releasing hormones like adrenaline to prepare us to confront the situation or flee from it. It's a survival mechanism designed to keep us safe and vigilant in a sometimes unpredictable world. But here's the catch: anxiety, though entirely normal, sometimes gets a bad rap due to some prevalent myths. These misconceptions can create unnecessary stress and self-doubt, especially among women. So, let's break them down! Myth #1: Anxiety is a Sign of Weakness Myth #2: You Can Simply "Snap Out of It" Myth #3: Anxiety is Inescapable Check the slides to read the explanations for each myth. By debunking these myths and understanding the true nature of anxiety, we can empower ourselves to embrace our journeys towards body confidence and overall well-being. It's time to embrace our natural responses, release the stigma, and stand united as strong, resilient women. With love, Sabrina #AnxietyMyths #MentalHealthAwareness #WomenEmpowerment

👇Is your anxiety driving a feeling of ever-present guilt? Here are some tips for dealing with this: 1️⃣ Remember that the FEELING of being guilty doesn’t always mean you’ve actually DONE anything wrong. This is why it’s irrational! 2️⃣ Stop “Shoulding” yourself! Feeling guilty is often tied with giving yourself lots of judgmental “should” statements. Ex. “I should’ve been more careful.” Change your language toward yourself and throw out those irrational “shoulds”, “musts” and “oughts”. 3️⃣ Challenge your guilty thoughts. Are they based on fact or could they be irrational, biased, or distorted in some way? (Pro tip: When anxiety is driving this, MOST of these thoughts are irrational!) 4️⃣ Practice mindfulness. Focus in on what is happening in the present moment without judgment or criticism. Mindfulness is excellent for dealing with guilt or any other kind of overthinking or worry! ⭐️Anxiety Myths⭐️ ❌Anxiety is something some people have and others don’t. Anxiety is a protection response we ALL experience. If you were running away from a polar bear you’d want to experience anxiety. You will experience it more day to day when stress levels are high or from the way you think about situations (the brain can’t tell the difference between imagination and reality). ❌To recover from anxiety you need to delve into the past. Absolutely not. Anxiety occurs when current stress levels are high. You can work on the here and now and moving forward to reduce them. ❌Anxiety is a negative emotion and completely unhelpful. Anxiety is a warning sign some isn’t right. It’s there to protect us in dangerous situations. ❌If you’ve suffered from anxiety in the past then you always will. Nope. You have all the skills and abilities that you need to develop new coping mechanisms and pathways in your brain. It just takes a bit of change, consistency and hard work but you CAN get there. ❌There is no reason for anxiety. It just happens sometimes. As mentioned above, you will experience excessive amounts of anxiety in the wrong situations and day to day when your brain senses stress levels are high. This can come from an accumulative build up of small things day to day as well as the way that we think about things. ❌Anxiety does not cause physical symptoms. It does! Imagine what physical symptoms you’d experience from running away from that polar bear! Our stress hormone cortisol causes inflammation in the body which can contribute physically in so many ways. (Get all physical symptoms checked out by a GP). There are a ton of myths and misconceptions surrounding anxiety. 1. Anxiety is just worrying: while worry is a common component of anxiety, it’s not the ONLY aspect. Anxiety involves intense and overwhelming feelings of fear, panic, and dread that can interfere with your daily life 2. Anxiety is always visible: Anxiety doesn’t have to have a “look” Some people may actually appear calm on the outside but struggling on the inside 3. Anxiety is a choice: Anxiety is not something that people choose to have or a reflection of their character. It’s a complex interplay of genetic, environmental, and neurological factors. 🔍🚫 Debunking 3 Common CBT Myths for Anxiety 🚫🔍 1️⃣ Myth: CBT is only for people with diagnosable anxiety disorders. Fact: CBT can benefit anyone who wants to manage anxiety and stress, not just those with a formal diagnosis. It's an effective tool for anyone who wants to improve their mental and emotional well-being. 2️⃣ Myth: Progress towards lessening anxiety only happens in the therapy room. Fact: While CBT sessions can be incredibly helpful, much of the work happens outside of the session. CBT emphasizes skill-building and practicing new ways of thinking, meaning, and behaving to help manage anxiety independently. 3️⃣ Myth: People have to stay in therapy as long as they have anxiety. Fact: CBT typically requires fewer sessions than other forms of talk therapy. Instead of prolonged therapy, CBT aims to empower clients to cultivate the skills, attitudes, and self-awareness needed to manage anxiety on their own. Don't believe the myths – CBT is a powerful tool for managing anxiety and promoting overall well-being. Debunking Anxiety Myths ✨ Are there anymore you would add?

5/19/2023, 6:39:13 PM

Let's have a quick talk about anxiety..... what is it? Definition: a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome. As a life coach, it is so interesting to hear common myths surrounding anxiety that shock me as I myself have suffered from anxiety. I was a worrier and would blow everything out of proportion before anything happened. Does this sound familiar to you? Here are some of the myths I have heard: 🙄🙄🙄 ➡️ Anxiety is not a real illness - Many people believe that anxiety is just a normal part of life and that those who suffer from anxiety are just being overly dramatic or seeking attention. However, anxiety is a real mental health condition that can be debilitating and can have a significant impact on a person's daily life. ➡️ Anxiety only affects weak people - This is a harmful myth that implies that those who suffer from anxiety are somehow less strong or less capable than those who do not. In reality, anxiety can affect anyone, regardless of their strength or character. ➡️ Anxiety is just stress - While stress can certainly contribute to anxiety, anxiety is a distinct mental health condition with its own set of symptoms and causes. ➡️ Anxiety is something that can be easily overcome - While some people may be able to manage their anxiety with self-care strategies or therapy, anxiety is a chronic condition that may require ongoing management and support from medical professionals. When I work with my clients who are busy and overwhelmed professional women, they all want to overcome anxiety so they can find work/life balance and fulfilment in their lives. We use a variety of tools and coping mechanisms to reduce the anxiety to a manageable state. And yes..... I myself still use these tools too in my own personal practice. So I practice what i preach!! 😝🤗🤩 Are you ready to gain some tools for you tools box to handle anxiety more effectively? Schedule a call with me so we can discuss how I can help you. What are some 𝓂𝓎𝓉𝒽𝓈 about anxiety? 🧐👇🏻 It’s no secret that we stumble upon, hear, or read lots of different myths when it comes to anxiety and discussions around it. There is a lot of stigma. I have gathered a few of my favourite ones that I often see: 1. “It is a sign of personal weakness”. This could be further from the truth. Even though having anxiety may hinder our thoughts and decisions in certain situations during a certain time period, it doesn’t define our skillset, intellectual capabilities or your mental strength. Everyone experiences feelings of anxiety at some point in their lives but it all comes down to managing. Your feelings of uneasiness and nervousness are valid and ok. We resort to comparison of others at times and the pressure of society to not be so “weak”. We are human and allowed to feel 🫶 2. “You should just avoid things that make you anxious”. This is a tough one because that would be the ideal situation, not entering into that uncomfortable atmosphere and avoiding it altogether. Sure if can relieve your “immediate anxiety” at the time but doesn’t benefit you in the long run. Through exposure or entering into these uncomfortable situations, we can learn to better manage our anxious patterns, face our fears and slowly become more comfortable with certain situations. This can be challenging! ( I know for me it is)🙈 3. “It’s obvious to see when someone has an anxiety disorder”. This may not always be the case! Someone who has anxiety may look different to others who are struggling as well. Although there are more common signs to notice, it’s important to look out for subtle signs and be mindfull of those around you. Kindness goes a long way and so does listening 👂 What are some myths you have heard about anxiety? Share down below! 👇🏻

There are countless myths about anxiety but here are a few facts to bust them. Tips to cope with anxious thoughts and panic: - diaphragmatic breathing: place one hand on the chest & the other on your tummy. Inhale through the nose & exhale through the mouth. Feel the rise & fall of your belly. -Progressive muscle relaxation: tensing your muscles and then slowly relaxing them. Start from your head, tighten your eyebrows, clench your jaw & slowly release the tension. Then do the same for your shoulders, belly, hips, & toes.

While anxiety disorders can be quite draining on the individual, the truth is that they are often not noticeable to other people; however, this does not mean that people who suffer from these disorders are not struggling. Anxiety may be hard to detect because those who have it may use coping skills to minimize symptoms, give reasons to avoid situations that cause them anxiety, or are embarrassed of their symptoms and only show them in private. Some people may also only experience psychological symptoms instead of physical ones like panic attacks. Because these disorders are common, odds are that you know someone with anxiety but are not aware of it. #anxiety #anxietyawareness #anxietyattack #anxietyrelief #anxietysupport #anxietyhelp #anxietymyths #anxietydisorders #anxietyisreal #anxietysymptoms #anxietytherapy #beaumont #lumbertontexas #silsbee #nederlandtx #orangetexas #portarthurtx #jaspertexas #vidortx #chinatexas #hamshiretx #beviloaks #bridgecitytexas #portnechestx #sourlake #winnietx #sabinepass #daytontx #newtontexas #orangefield
