One year of 100 pound weight loss maintained. I’m actually a few pounds heavier than the photo on the left, but over the course of the past year I’ve dropped below and jumped above 200 all in the process of recomping my body. I’m heavier now but leaner. I’m heavier now but stronger. I’m eating 1000 more calories a day than I was a year ago, and I was practically starving myself back then just to see a number on the scale. I’ve learned how to let myself eat in moderation, make healthier choices, and still be disciplined. ✨✨✨April Highlights ✨✨✨ April was a month filled with excitement and adventure for me. I had the opportunity to celebrate my birthday in three different countries: Germany, Belgium and Bulgaria ☺️ I am so grateful for the support and love of my loved ones and friends who have been with me on my triathlon journey. On the 28th of April 2024, I completed my first full distance triathlon in Tielt -Belgium ,part of Flanders’ triathlon competitions ( 🏊♀️:500 m , 🚲:21 km, 🏃♀️: 5 km). I have been working hard on improving my swimming, and it paid off as I finished first in my group and 7th out of 25 ladies. I was very happy with my swim performance and confident for the rest of the race. Unfortunately, I did encounter some challenges on the bike leg of the race. My chain came off and my back wheel went flat, which cost me some valuable time and energy. But despite these setbacks and the extremely strong headwind, I managed to finish strong and enjoy the ride. The run was tough, but I kept pushing myself and cheering on the other athletes. Overall, I finished in 11th position and I am slowly but steadily climbing the ladder. I am very proud of myself and what I have achieved. It’s easy to lose perspective when things go bad for us in life. Hiking this beauty was an arduous test as we couldn’t get vehicles up the road to the trailhead which made for a 17 mile round trip and over 5,000’ of elevation gain. No one talks about how changed you are after training and completing an Ironman. If they do, you don’t believe them. Maybe it’s because you’re just in survival mode, desperately trying to get through it all. Once the dust has settled and the high is gone you’re left with what I like to call being in no man’s land. Proud mom post! Perseverance. Seems easy enough, right? I think you can persevere, despite circumstances, trials, spiritual warfare, and the hectic nature of life. I see it all around me in my friends, my family, and the Bible. But, I think preserving is difficult, especially in our own might without Christ. I have had the pleasure ( and emotional hurt) to watch both Preston and Caden persevere despite setbacks. I pray they will continue as they grow and lean more on Christ and less on their own might ( as we all or at least I do). They make me want to be better, to preserver with Joy from Christ alone. From Mars Hill University to The North Carolina Agricultural technical state university, it’s has been a long journey through my academic career. There have been a lot of ups and downs, from collegiate athlete to normal undergraduate student was a true experience and time of growth. Happy Nurses Week! Some days, I get off my shift as a cardiovascular PCU nurse and still remember how, just a year ago, I was pushing myself so hard to get through nursing school and how, just two years ago, it was barely a dream. I was preparing my application for the program. I had to drop out of the program just weeks before graduating last summer, but that didn't stop me. I persevered, kept pushing, and re-entered to finish strong last December! Pictures are from most recent to oldest as an LVN getting off night shift and growing more confident with each shift, after attending open heart surgery during my orientation (an amazing experience and privilege), graduation with some of my favorite people, getting pinned by my dear friend, my clinical uniform and LVN pin, our IV certification class, and my cohort during our first semester when we all struggled through pharmacology together. After I completed my first semester of VN school, I applied for an LVN externship that I maintained throughout my graduation and beyond. Once I was eligible, I transitioned to orienting for my LVN role. I adore and appreciate the team I work with and am so grateful for all I have learned and continue to learn. I absolutely love what I do, caring for my community and bringing comfort to my patients. I work in a hospital near downtown, serving many patients from marginalized communities.
