There are many people who claim that eating meat is unethical. They may have arguments about the treatment of animals or the effect on the environment. But Nina Teicholz has an interesting angle. She says “You need to be healthy to be a productive member of society, not to be a burden to society… optimal health requires eating meat” (Metabolic Link podcast, 7/5/24). As an ex vegetarian, I do think we have a duty of care to animals. I believe there should be a lot more government regulation regarding humane treatment. But I do agree with Nina that we also have to think about our individual health as well as the health of the population at large. It is impossible to be a non deficient vegan without supplementing in the long term. There’s a reason for that. Our bodies are designed to eat meat. I believe that the majority of people thrive on a diet that includes animal products. I’m not saying that each individual shouldn’t have an ability to choose, but Nina’s point is interesting food for thought. I’d love to hear your views…

Zucker und Angst - Die süsse Verbindung Bevor du in Panik gerätst: Angst kann nicht durch eine einzige Tafel Schokolade verursacht werden, ABER Studien haben gezeigt, dass der regelmässige Verzehr von viel raffiniertem Zucker das Risiko erhöhen kann, Angstzustände und Stimmungsstörungen zu entwickeln. Wenn Du dich also „ohne Grund“ komisch, nervös, ängstlich und unruhig gefühlt hast…, dann lass uns einen Blick auf einige Fakten werfen. Verursacht Zucker Angst? In einer Studie aus dem Jahr 2021 sammelten Forscher Daten. Sie fanden heraus, dass 39,3% der Menschen mit stärkeren Ängsten einen deutlich höheren durchschnittlichen Konsum von raffiniertem Zucker hatten. Dies ist teilweise auf Bakterien zurückzuführen, die sich von diesen Zuckern ernähren und dadurch unsere eigene Neurochemie beeinflussen. Studien zeigen ausserdem, dass starker Zuckerkonsum zu Hirnfunktionsstörungen und Entzündungen führen kann, die beide die perfekte Kombination für Angstzustände sind. It's official! I'm down a total of 65 pounds since beginning a lifestyle change journey almost five years ago. I went from slowly losing for two years to stalling and gaining over the next two and a half years. It didn't make sense to me. I was following the Trim Healthy Mama plan perfectly. I didn't give up, though. I still knew that health was my ultimate goal, and what was the alternative? The alternative offered to me was the glp-1 drugs that have been trending in the news. These were offered to me by my doctor six months into my stall. It was a quick no from me every time it was suggested. Then, about a year later, it was also recommended by other mentors. I spent two years immediately rejecting this option. These were offered by all as a compound to be given in tiny doses. The immediate rejection was very easy for me until it wasn't. In September of last year, my resolve waned. My "dieting Debbie" mentality wormed its way back into my journey. It was a shock to me that when I resigned that I did it so quickly. For me, the notion of taking a glp-1 drug meant my hope of a healthy functioning metabolism would never ever be obtainable. This is not everyone's thinking, but we're all unique, and this is how my mind rationalized this decision. No matter how much I was told, it's a tool, it's no different than any other hormone replacement, or any of the other reasons why I should take it, I always settled on the fact that, in my heart, I was only going to do it to lose weight, and losing weight became my main focus again . I continued this thinking for about 24 hours. After seeing a reel on optimal fasting insulin numbers. I was intrigued and began to research insulin resistance heavily. I once again chose to reject these drugs and give it one last go on my own with whole foods and exercise. I devised a plan to reverse my insulin resistance. I knew Trim Healthy would be my foundation, but tweaks needed to be made. I set a goal of one month to implement the changes. I saw results immediately as far as weight loss and inflammation loss. Are you addicted to sugar?  There are lots of reasons for sugar cravings. One is in response to your body’s inability to regulate blood glucose level without the high sugar consumption. The body is always looking for balance or homeostasis. The inability to regulate the body has long-term health risks. Cravings are a sign that you’re out of balance. Questions to ask yourself about your relationship with sugar: What do you typically eat for breakfast?  Do you find yourself reaching for sweet foods or starches throughout the day?  Are there particular times in the day when you regularly seek out sweets or treats? (ie. at breakfast, at 4pm, after work, after dinner)  How many times a day do you consume sugar (in coffee, in food, in soda)?  Are you particularly fond of breads, cereals, crackers, popcorn and pasta?  Is there one sugary snack that has become a necessary everyday ritual? What?  Are there times of the day where you tend toward brain fog, fatigue, tears, anger? When?
