Chapter 30: Trials and tribulations I began my tenure at Collin back in the summer of '18. Like many transitioning veterans I decided to take advantage of the benefits available to me and went back to school. Little did I know this 2-year degree would span 6 due to all the haymakers life decided to throw at me. Let's recap shall we: -Divorce.. starting strong huh? -Moved back in with mom -Moved into first apartment and first time living alone -Lost job -I found a new job that turned out to be a pyramid scheme...back to job hunting -I was offered a new job that wouldn't start for another month and a half but still had bills to pay...found a job paying $10/hour and had to work 12+ hours a day 5-6 days a week. -Baby Piper is on the way! -Joined the Marine Corps Reserves -My new job has me changing shifts making classes impossible to attend unless web-based. -Bought a home -COVID -Job demands mandatory overtime, no longer able to keep up with coursework. "Dropped" 5 classes simultaneously past the deadline. 5 Fs...Academic Suspension. - Baby Kellen inbound! -Career changed from Aviation/Electrical Assembly to Computer Networking/Network Engineering. Through all of that and more, I somehow was able to keep going back to class. Still able to try and pursue self-improvement. Still able to stick it out for the mere that I started and I'd be damned if I didn't see it to the end. It may just be an associate degree to some who may have more under their belt, but to me, it's an accolade that marks the end of the roughest period of my life. I'll forever be able to look at that degree as it hangs on my wall (when I get it that is 😅) and recount all the absolute shit I had to go through and still came out on the other side. For those who put up with me, helped me, guided me, pushed me...thank you. From the bottom of my heart. I am so very proud to announce that a week from today, on May 17, 2024 I will be graduating from THE LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY with my Bachelor of Architecture degree and dual minors in Art & Architectural History! It has been a long winding road of learning, living, crying, passing, failing, etc. As tough as it was I’m incredibly thankful for all the people I met along the way, all the experiences I had and was able to learn from. I’m grateful for the community I had backing me, supporting me, and encouraging me to keep going along the way. This has probably been the hardest 6 years of my life. For a while now I’ve been seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and I’m so so soooo excited and happy to finally get to touch and feel that light. I came to LSU a girl and I will be leaving a woman. This time next week I will have walked across the stage happy, healthy, loved, and with that degree in my hand! As a first generation college student I can truly say it is an honor and a privilege to be able to start a new family legacy and to be a guiding voice and shoulder to lean on for those who will embark on this journey after me. There have been countless moments when I felt like giving up, when life’s challenges seemed insurmountable, and I longed for a way out of desperate situations. But each time, just when I thought I couldn’t go on, God brought ease into my life. It’s a reminder that the help of God is always near. Life often tests us with tough trials, moments that can leave us feeling downhearted and vulnerable. It’s precisely at these points that we need to be vigilant, for it’s when our guard is lowered that negative forces can try to lead us astray. God doesn’t always grant our wishes immediately, but He promises us something greater—either in this life or in the afterlife. Sometimes, we may feel disheartened, thinking that the afterlife is too far away, and we yearn for instant gratification. But remember, Allah knows what’s best for our lives. If He doesn’t grant our desires in this life, it means there was no goodness in it, and He has something better planned for us in the afterlife. Trials and losses in this life are part of our journey. They shape us, purify our souls, and draw us closer to God. Without these tests, we would all be meeting Allah bankrupt. So, let’s have faith, be patient, and trust in His divine plan. Problems and hopeful solutions...a lot of pest management going on here, and often feeling like we're on the back foot. Stress! The Japanese beetle grubs are awful right now, and have largely destroyed two plantings of lettuce, amongst other things. In an attempt to slow down the destruction, we ordered beneficial nematodes--microscopic roundworms that parasitize the grubs. We got 5 million for starters, and another 50 million on the way... it's war! With that said, because the nematodes are living things and not a chemical, the application process is a little tricky; they need moisture and don't like direct sun, so there's some timing (and irrigating) involved to get them where they need to go. The journey is everything… 😮💨 The journey I’ve been on has been anything but “easy.” Regardless of whatever it might look like to you on your end. Y’all don’t even know the half of what I go through behind-the-scenes… 😫 I really be having to go through it. Because what is any teacher if they didn’t actually live it. What is any student if they didn’t actually learn it. Etc. There is no great teacher that can teach anyone that hasn’t personally been through it themselves and overcome. Essentially learning and growing and coming out better on the other side because of the challenges, the opposition, trials and tribulations. I sometimes often feel like I am a living, walking sacrificial lamb for the collective. Everything I have to go through is a heavy cross to bear, but I can stand before the masses and teach and preach because I am a living, walking, breathing testimony of everything that I speak about. It’s not just “made believe” because it sounds good. These are things I’ve actually lived, witnessed, been through myself that I have had the opportunity and privileged to learn, and grow from to gain wisdom, knowledge, experience and valuable information that I get to share with the world. Why should we choose joy in the face of trials and tests? It is our response to adversity, whether it’s hardship, persecution, or temptation, that reflects the depth of our faith. God is encouraging us to take up a posture of joy when these challenges come our way, and understand they’re not meant to harm but it’s a test of our faith. How many times do we go straight to rebuking things and cursing the season we are in? Romans 5:3-4 says “Glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.” Don’t curse the season and trials you are facing, but instead, glory in them knowing good fruit is being produced. God is looking for us to walk into the trials knowing that on the other side of it is a deeper relationship with God, stronger faith, victory, greater endurance, and a testimony all for His glory! One thing I’m greatful of, is my trials and tribulations. Their are lessons to be learned. Those who follow. know what I’m facing currently. I can’t control the opposition and their agenda. I can only control how I react. So what have I learned from all this ? That I know I’ve overcome my PTSD. This is exactly the type of thing that would have pushed me over the edge before. Other people unfairly trying to undermine me or hurt my way of living or life. Well guess what ! I’m still here and I’m still fighting looking for ways to overcome my circumstances. I’m completely greatful for what they are doing and how they are trying to destroy this March. 1st it proves theirs a major problem in the mental health system in Canada 2nd your showing me how much of Lion I’ve become. 3rd that I’m not talking out of my arse when I say I’ve overcome PTSD each step I take and completion of a hump is direct F you to the opposition ! Humanity nearly had me kill myself, now I show people how to overcome their PTSD. It’s starts by facing it. That’s exactly what I do each day I continue to ruck. Yes I’m knowledgeable on trauma and will help others overcome it but I’m also aware of the broken system which we call mental health service which keeps getting richer but the death toll keeps climbing!!!!. At the end of Matthew 3, we see John the Baptist, consenting to Jesus in His request for John to baptize Him. The work of the Trinity was on display the moment Jesus rose from the water: “And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water and, behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.’ “ Truly profound visual. I can only imagine what John the Baptist was thinking when he witnessed this. So what happened next? Jesus is baptized. The Spirit of God descended on Him. God was well pleased with His Son. Did Jesus go and cast out demons? Did He raise someone from the dead? Did He rejoice for His Father was well pleased? Did He have a banquet with His disciples to celebrate? No. Matthew 4 tells us in verse one that Jesus was led into the wilderness… to be tested by Satan. 🫣😳😱😫😖 Jesus had been tempted for forty days and forty nights, continuing to resist the urge to sin. Let’s not forget that Jesus was a man, in the flesh, and He was tempted, just as you and I are. He had no more power than we do, with the Spirit of God also indwelling us, to resist the temptations of sin. After many failed attempts to cause Jesus to stumble, Jesus finally utters the words in verse ten, “Be gone, Satan!” And afterwards, “the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.” So why do I share this story with you today? I share to remind you that Jesus endured the same temptations and trials that we go through. God brings us into seasons of testing, not to break us, but to strengthen our faith. He never tempts us to sin. Ever. That is always the work of the devil.
