The declaration of God’s Word, accompanied by a sincere desire to follow its instruction, will result in a true, heartfelt joy. This “joy of the Lord” is based on reconciliation with God and the presence of the Spirit in our lives. It is maintained by the assurance that we have been forgiven in Christ and restored to fellowship with God, and that we now live in harmony with His will (vv. 10-13; cf. Luke 7:50). Such joy acts (1) as a fortress to guard us from the troubles and temptations of each day (cf. Ps. 119:165; Gal 5:22; Phil 4:4), and (2) as the power and motivation to persevere in faith until the end. Amen and Hallelujah! Praise the Lord! This is the day the Lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it! I’m very grateful to God to see another day! The joy of the Lord is our strength! It’s much more than a feeling! Keep fighting the good fight of faith! All of God’s promises are yes and amen in Christ Jesus! If God said it, it will happen in His perfect way and perfect timing! Perseverance (continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition) This was the word that was in big, bold letters at the top of the workbook this past Monday as my human reviewed what she was going to teach that day📚 Subbing is a difficult job. Subbing middle school…is even harder💥 As she worked with the class to fill in the blanks on the workbook, she realized she was going to need perseverance to make it to Friday when this subbing assignment ended. It’s almost like their teacher knew and that’s why he assigned that page for Monday 🙃 By 6th period Monday, she thought about quitting the assignment early and subbing elsewhere. Why not take the easy way out? Was she really gonna take being called a b-word from her students all week? 🫣 Each day, these students tested my human by breaking her rules and being disrespectful. And each day my human followed through on consequences and kept a calm but firm voice. When her favorite school reached out with an assignment she considered it, but then she remembered the word at the top of the page: Perseverance. It wasn’t just for the students, it was for her too. She couldn’t give up just yet. By Friday, the classroom wasn’t a battlefield anymore, it was a space where (some) boundaries were (finally!) respected and learning (sometimes) happened. It wasn’t easy, but facing those challenges head-on made her a stronger, more confident and resilient teacher. And who knows, maybe she even inspired a little perseverance in those middle schoolers along the way. Sometimes, we think we can’t do something because it’s too hard, too late, or too complicated to figure out…like Procreate 🎨😵💫 But when we take it one day at a time, little by little, breathe, take a break, try again, keep going…eventually we realize “Hey, I can do this...I’m doing it!” And that’s perseverance✨ So go try that steep hike, plan that solo trip, move abroad…you got this humans! This week can be especially tortuous for those facing infertility or recurrent loss. For those patients who are still on the journey to become a mother, who may have just received bad news, or had a failed treatment, or were just diagnosed with miscarriage, please know you are not alone. My beautiful patient brought this orchid to her appointment this week — our follow-up discussion after our second failed treatment together 🥺 While our plans A and B so far have not proved successful, I am SO impressed by her strength, resilience and perseverance. Before our appointment, she shared that after processing her grief, she already started mentally preparing and embracing Plan C (egg thaw of her frozen eggs), and even Plan D (donor egg). Today’s 3rd run at Alexandra Park was a true test of both my physical and mental strength. Despite finishing with a time of 38m 16s, +1m 24s from my park PB, I am proud of my perseverance and determination. The unbearable heat and yesterday’s appointments made it even more challenging. I couldn’t have done it without the incredible support system I have. My partner, working hard but still sending words of encouragement, my Dad and Uncle (father figure) cheering me on from the sidelines, ensuring I made it through in one piece. My breathing was off, my heart rate spiked, and I felt sick, coughing due to my burning lungs. The last lap pushed me to my limits, but with Emma by my side, joining me to the finish line giving me words of encouragement, and her Daughter clapping me over the finish, I found the motivation and support needed to push through. I am so grateful for them. This run was a reminder that sometimes the biggest victories come from simply finishing. ** Perseverance pays off ** Many of you know I recently broke my right hand. Even after the cast came off, simple things like holding a phone felt impossible. But with physio and unwavering determination, I kept pushing myself. Just 90 days after the injury, I faced my brown belt test – and crushed it! This journey wasn't easy, but it solidified my spirit and karate skills. Here's a taste of what I conquered : (check last 2nd slide for scoring) 1 - Endurance : 150 jumping jacks 100 sit-ups 100 side sit-ups 100 pushups 3 minute wall chair, 50 rolls 2 - Basics: 500 powerful punches each hand(modified for my recovering hand, of course!) Long post alert ... Anybody that knows my SonShine knows he's a fish and has loved the water since he was a baby. So this past September he decided to try out for the swim team at The Y. Although he could swim really well, he hadn't had any stroke training. Unfortunately, he didn't make the team but the coach loved his spirit and enthusiasm. She told him him to take stroke classes 4, 5 and 6 then try out again. So from September through March he did just that. He worked hard and passed every class. Then to top it off he took private lessons in April to tighten up a few skills. Coincidentally, the coach showed up at his last private lesson and was impressed. And just like that my boy had made the swim team!! He didn't even have to try out again ... Look at God!! Then he started practicing with the team and after just one week of practice, he was moved up from the first lane with the beginners to the middle lane with the faster swimmers ... Ain't that just like God!! Of course, I had tears! To say we're proud of him is an understatement! He didn't let NO stop him and was determined to reach his goal even at times when he wasn't feeling the best. So for now he's traded in his lacrosse stick for the pool! Stay tuned for meet season ... Sidebar: This is so very special to my family. My mom's brother, Marlin Philbert Dix aka "Little Phil", drowned 7/7/77 across the street from my grandparents house in the little boat harbor. As a result, the next generation - me, my sisters and my cousins - were practically forbidden to go near the water although we grew up in Crisfield surrounded by water. Nearly 40 years later Zoey was born 7/7/15 on the anniversary of Uncle Little Phil's passing and now Zion is doing competitive swimming. What a blessing to be able to honor the legacy of their great uncle even though they never met!
