🏆 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧 𝗨𝗟𝗧𝗥𝗔 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗦𝗛𝗘𝗥 🏆 It’s been an absolute pleasure to be part of Elliot’s journey. 5 months of work and lots of PBs along the way. Tackling the journey of starting trail running and building up to solo 6 hours runs and fuelling with whole foods. It’s a very different world to road running. Elliot absolutely smashed his 100k and stayed mentally and physically strong throughout with a never give up attitude. I had absolutely no doubt mate 🙌🏻 Elliot was kind enough to do a review for me 👇🏻 I’ve been running since 2019 and have reached a good level, completing 3 marathons. Last year, I ventured into triathlons and finished a 70.3 triathlon, all using training plans I found online. However, as I aim to complete a 100km ultra-marathon this year, I struggled to find a suitable training program online. I had been following James on Instagram and after seeing him coach my old PE teacher to complete a race across Scotland, I thought there was no better person to message for help with this challenge. James’ experience completing various ultra-marathons has greatly contributed to my understanding and progress during my training. Thanks to James’ coaching, I have become a better runner. He takes the guesswork out of training by updating your plan on the VO2 app, leaving you responsible for running. The community of athletes James coaches, from beginners to those tackling 100+ mile ultramarathons, is fantastic. Their support and guidance have been invaluable. The heat and humidity didn’t stop these guys from crushing tonight’s speed workout. Four sets of broken 10s of tempo and moderately hard efforts with some easy efforts sprinkled in for good measure (thanks for the inspo Coach @lwlkr34 😊). JC Spring Half Marathon Планы на старт были выше ) В моменте расстроилась. In only her second marathon, Alissa set a goal to run under 4 hours and she did it! An impressive accomplishment in its own right, Alissa did it with the set back of a calf strain early in the training cycle. She committed to cross training with vigorous threshold sessions on the stationary bike, and as she returned to running we took each day, and then each week at a time. We remained curious, we never counted her out. She stayed dedicated to PT and strength training and progressed wonderfully still safely able to build to an 18 mile and 3 hour long run. One of our goals this race was to dial in nutrition better than last time, to feel strong and energized through mile 20 and she did just that! It all came together on a gorgeous course with ideal weather and Alissa ran a PR of over 10 minutes! 🙌 We know there are so many variables with a marathon, and things don’t always come together. It’s amazing when they do and it’s extra special when there is some adversity in the training cycle. Congratulations, Alissa! It’s incredible how goals can evolve, from finishing a marathon, to under 4:00, to maybe a BQ one day!

TIPS estrategia de carrera 🎯 21K Lo Port 1200m d+ 1. Estudia el perfil del recorrido. Esto te dará una idea clara de las secciones más difíciles y cómo distribuir tu esfuerzo 2. Planifica el ritmo. CONOCE TUS ZONAS DE INTENSIDAD Y REALIZA UN SEGUIMIENTO METICULOSO DE TUS INDICADORES DE FITNESS . Cuando entrenas de manera eficiente, necesitas realizar tus entrenamientos a intensidades precisas. Al pasar tiempo en ciertas zonas de intensidad, tu cuerpo se adapta de manera única a esa zona. Por ejemplo, los intervalos en zona 5 al 105 por ciento de tu FTP aumentan tu potencia aeróbica de manera más eficiente que los intervalos de crucero en zona 3, y las carreras largas realizadas en zona 2 conducirán a adaptaciones similares a las carreras largas realizadas en zona 3 con menores costos de recuperación. . Debes saber que manifestación de tu fitness necesitas mejorar y que medio de entrenamiento utilizar. . Sin embargo, para realizar entrenamientos con precisión, necesitas conocer tus verdaderas zonas -pista: pueden no ser las que te da el Garmin- y tener la capacidad de realizar un seguimiento de tu intensidad en tiempo real. . Irgendwann habe ich mal beschlossen, dass es keine schlechten (Trainings)Läufe gibt. Naja... Heute gab ich es schon gedacht😎 Es war so hart! Nein. Ich bin keinen HM gelaufen. Es waren"nur" nach 10min Walken 2x 10min Laufen inkl. 2min Trabpausen. Momentan fällt mir das Laufen schwer. Gefühlt fehlt mir momentan die Kraft in den Beinen. Mit jedem Meter wurden diese schwerer. Am Ende habe ich es durchgezogen und war dann doch ganz zufrieden. 💪 Jetzt heißt es entspannen. Congratulations to @run_kate_run_ from the Trail Nation team for completing the 100km Jurassic Coast Ultra Challenge on the weekend! 🏃🏻‍♀️😀👏 And what a challenge Katie took on: day one saw her running 38 miles with 5,500ft of elevation, followed by a coastal marathon with 2,000ft of elevation on day two. And not only did Katie complete the race, she finished in the top 10 overall!🏅 We could not be more proud of Katie's achievement, and it's a testament to her hard work and commitment to training. One of the most pleasing things to hear from Katie was that despite the distance, she was still feeling really strong at the end of the race. This is priceless feedback for any running coach and reassures us the training and progression provided Katie with a solid foundation from which to take on and complete a challenge of this scale 🎯 Well done again Katie and enjoy that all important recovery time! 🙏

Let's talk about shin splints today! Shin splints, also known as medial tibial stress syndrome (MTSS), are a common running injury in all athletes and actually account for about 15% of all running injuries. Usually they are symptoms of another underlying problem such as over-pronation of your feet when you run. 💥Causes of Shin Splints -Overpronation while running. This happens when the foot rolls inward which causes the shin muscles to stretch and increases the stress on them which increases the risk of running injury. -Over-eagerness and taking on too much running too soon is a huge risk factor. This means that beginners need to be especially aware of the running loads that they take on themselves. -Experienced runners who run down hill are also at a risk as downhill running places added stress on the Tibialis Anterior. Symptoms Where do you feel the pain? Front and Middle Side of Lower Leg: If you are experiencing pain and soreness in the front and middle (medial) side of your lower leg then you are more than likely undergoing a shin splint which can feel like a tooth-ache pain, sharp or dull. Back of the leg: Pain in the back of the leg usually indicates problems that are coming from you posterior lower leg muscles, especially from your Achilles tendon and could be a case of Achilles tendonitis and not a shin splint. As your Tibialis Anterior receives the shock while you run the membrane which attaches to your tibia bone can start to pull away from the bone and pain results. Middle Deep Area of the Shin Bone: Pain in the Tibialis Anterior, which usually comes from over-pronation is felt in the front, middle, deep part of the shin. After I completed my first 100K, I started experiencing post race blues. Looking at my survey in the stories, sounds like some of you had experienced some lows after completing a big race, too. 🥺 I’ve been racing for the past 10 years and occasionally I would feel down after a race. If I could describe my emotional state it would be: sad, low energy and drive, and most importantly, just not your own self! If this resonates, keep reading.😏 🥴Why do you feel this way? ➡️ My answer is simple: the problem is that your mind and body are disconnected. ℹ️ During a race, your body faces extreme stress, with your mind taking control and overriding physical sensations—entering survival mode. In a homeostatic state, your body and mind work together harmoniously, maintaining a balanced biological state for your well-being. ⚡️So what’s the solution? It’s actually quite simple. ⚡️⚡️ Connecting back to your body. This is how to do that: ✅ Ground yourself by finding a peaceful spot in a park and standing barefoot on the grass. Focus on the sensations in your feet, imagining energy rising from the Earth into your body. Breathe deeply, feeling the energy circulate and renew with each inhale and exhale. Repeat until you feel lighter and fully present. ✅ Emotion labeling. This powerful exercise enhances interoceptive awareness by reconnecting you with your body’s needs. You begin by focusing on your breathing, then notice your body’s sensations and acknowledge your emotions. After my 100K run, this exercise revealed how hard my body had worked and its need for recognition.
 ✅ Body work. Get a massage with a professional or ask your loved ones to give you one. While you are receiving a massage, be fully present to the sensations that arise. Combine this with emotion labeling for even better results. Be intentional. ✅ Yoga/stretching/MFR. Go with the flow of your body. Don’t do a structured class if you do yoga, but rather put on some nice relaxing beats and be fully present to where your body takes you with the stretching and rolling. Be patient and use your exhales to fully let it go off the tension. #breathwork #postracerecovery #postraceblues #ultrarunning

🏆 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧 𝗨𝗟𝗧𝗥𝗔 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗦𝗛𝗘𝗥 🏆 It’s been an absolute pleasure to be part of Elliot’s journey. 5 months of work and lots of PBs along the way. Tackling the journey of starting trail running and building up to solo 6 hours runs and fuelling with whole foods. It’s a very different world to road running. Elliot absolutely smashed his 100k and stayed mentally and physically strong throughout with a never give up attitude. I had absolutely no doubt mate 🙌🏻 Elliot was kind enough to do a review for me 👇🏻 I’ve been running since 2019 and have reached a good level, completing 3 marathons. Last year, I ventured into triathlons and finished a 70.3 triathlon, all using training plans I found online. However, as I aim to complete a 100km ultra-marathon this year, I struggled to find a suitable training program online. I had been following James on Instagram and after seeing him coach my old PE teacher to complete a race across Scotland, I thought there was no better person to message for help with this challenge. James’ experience completing various ultra-marathons has greatly contributed to my understanding and progress during my training. Thanks to James’ coaching, I have become a better runner. He takes the guesswork out of training by updating your plan on the VO2 app, leaving you responsible for running. Are you the kind of runner who immediately flips to the last page of your training plan and then has an existential crisis about how intimidating those runs and workouts look? Are you focusing SO MUCH on what you can't yet do that it's completely derailing what you're doing RIGHT NOW? A common question I get is "How will I KNOW I can do it? How will I KNOW I can run the distance/hold that pace/be mentally ready for the challenges of my race?" And my response is always the same: there's no such thing as a 100% guarantee, BUT you achieve those goals the same way that you achieve every other goal: you do it one step at a time (sometimes literally!) You prove to yourself over & over & over again in training that yes, you can run a little farther. Yes, you can run a little faster, and yes, you can be mentally gritty enough to handle what is coming your way! Focusing way too far ahead is COUNTERPRODUCTIVE!! When I first started running, I couldn't even run a mile. If I'd been obsessively focused on a giant future goal, like running a marathon, when I couldn't even run a mile? When running AT ALL felt like the hardest thing in the world to do? I'll be honest, I probably would have felt so demoralized about how challenging it felt, I might have given up. Instead, I took it one day, one run, one mile at a time. I took small steps. First I ran a 5k. Then I ran a 10k. Then I ran a half marathon. And each step up that staircase, each day that I proved to myself that yes, I can do a little more, yes I can do these things that previously felt impossible, only fueled my confidence and belief in my ability. It's good to have big goals. It's important to have challenging goals. But it's NOT good to overly fixate on that big future goal and directly compare it to where you are today (compare & despair, friends!) in a way that only makes you feel defeated. The most magical thing about running is that it turns The Impossible into The Possible. But the impossible doesn't become possible overnight! - Turn YOUR impossible into the possible with Running Explained training plans, coaching, & education! Keeping those easy runs truly EASY with this gal pal. 📈🧱 Heart-rate training is a great way to slowly and steadily increase your running economy and your performance. Heart-rate training is also very beneficial for understanding HOW WELL you are recovering between your workouts, runs, and training blocks. Right, @mirit.elimelech!? 🙌🏻💪🏻 Use a heart-rate strap to accurately measure your heart rate during your runs; don’t rely solely on your wristwatch for heart rate data. Although it might be a good guidance tool, your wristwatch is highly inaccurate when monitoring your accurate heart rate for any run or workout. The data from the external HR strap, which accurately monitors your bpm during your runs and workouts, gets pulled into @garmin Connect or @strava when connected via Bluetooth to your watch. Benefits! ⬇️ Training your body to use different energy sources as you continue to train (both fat and glycogen, reserving more glycogen throughout your long steady state runs) With time, your paces in your Zone 2 range (60-75% of your max heart rate) will become faster. The first time I trained for a sub-3-hour marathon, it took me about six months of consistent, periodized training to see my easy effort/conversational effort paces consistently drop at the same heart rate. What has worked for me might not work for you, but it’s important to share what has worked to learn what could work for you while working toward your own goals! Sharing is caring! Allow your body to adapt and recovery, and train at a higher level. Get a heart-rate strap if you are using heart rate as your guide. It keeps you HONEST! * R A C E R E P O R T * It was a warm one for racing at the weekend but some of my athletes were doing just that! 🏃🏻‍♀️ Something slightly different for @liz_barker_giannopoulos on Sunday, who was out on some trails for a change at the Pulborough Vineyard half marathon! Along with the heat, she had hills, stiles and mud to contend with, crossing the line in 2:42 - commenting that this most definitely confirmed that she’s a road runner!! Although it was tough, she was rewarded with a glass of wine at the end! 🏃🏻‍♀️ Then from my @movebetter_runbetter team.. Well done to Louise Ollivier⁩ at the Trevornick 10k. Louise’s goal for this one was to run and enjoy, rather than put any pressure on herself and race. And despite the continuous undulations, rabbit holes and heat, Louise did indeed enjoy it.. loving the scenery and finishing in 1:02:26 🏃🏻‍♀️ Lastly a big well done too to Rachel Williams⁩ for completing the Chester Half. Finishing in 2.14.32, but a little disappointed with her time, commenting “the heat got to me especially in the last 5 miles 🥵” Again … not the easiest of courses!! 🏃🏻‍♀️ Congrats girls… I raise my glass to you! 👏🏻

First off - there are more than enough athletes to go around. . Coaches that realize that there are more than enough athletes to go around, tend to grow their businesses faster. . But there is another way to do it. Or another place to look. . Can you CREATE new athletes? . Do you live in a town with very few athletes? Do you come from a niche where many people are struggling with health issues due to inactivity? Have you been told that the work you do is so inspiring but also out of reach? . Bit of grey, damp start to the day, but I managed to get up and out early doors. Longer reps today, but the ankle held up. I'm really hoping this early bird thing will gradually become "automatic" because just now, I'm missing being able to hit snooze a minimum of 4 times of a morning!!! I did manage to fit a short strength session in as well as the run this morning, and it did mean I started the day feeling accomplished. That aspect I definitely like. I now need to conquer a) not wasting the time I've gained in the afternoons and b) getting to bed earlier to make the mornings easier. My strategy was always to sort the getting-up early, first, to make myself tired so that I would then WANT / NEED to go to bed earlier. The other way round, I'd have been trying to go to sleep when wide awake and not tired, and I doubt that would have worked. Yesterday, I surpassed 1000 miles of running for the year! I don’t really try to get a certain amount of miles every year. I just run what feels good to me and try to not get injured 🤣🤷‍♀️. But I do think it’s important to celebrate milestones along the way, so I’m going to go and get a @mcdonalds coke later 😉. Today I ran 11.5 miles and found 12 cents. #winning (almost enough to pay for my Coke 😀). I’m so grateful to have to have found the sport of ultramarathon all those years ago, especially the 100-mile distance. The moment I finished my first 100 at Superior, I knew I’d found my home. Because of that, I now have 20 finishes at Massanutten 100 and over 20 at Superior 100. A life lived doing what I love, even when it’s unbelievably hard, frustrating, or disappointing. We all know those moments. I’ve always known I have something unique to give back - decades of perspective in the sport, experience as a woman in the sport over in my 30s through 60s as life happens and my body changes, being a certified life coach and feminist coach for the mindset piece, and of course…146 100-mile finishes. It’s why I coach - to pass my skills, strategies, processes and knowledge on to others at the highest level I can, while I can. This buckle, among other things, is a reminder to keep going. 💚

Training for an Ultra Marathon is hard work and you have to make some short term sacrifices if you want to achieve your goals. Trying to juggle - work, training, coaching, family time and being a good dad whilst also trying to get enough sleep and eat well can be extremely hard at times. But seeing your little boys face and hearing him cheering on his daddy at the end of a 47 mile race makes it all worth while.
