The kids snuck in at the end & we got some fun shots where their faces aren’t highlighted. If we keep spending our time on everything that western culture tells us is necessary, we will never have time. But, western culture is designed to make it very difficult to step away. Profit is the organizing principle of this culture. Most of us don't have the amount of privilege it takes to accumulate (hoard) profit for ourselves, which means we are probably stuck being "productive" for someone else so that they can hoard profit. You have nothing to lose and everything to WIN by starting strength training. You just have to get over the FEAR of it, and change the story in your head that says you can’t (watch my reel from yesterday!!) This is true whether you have TMS, you are an HSP, or you are simply totally NEW to strength training. Here are some experiences from people who have done my TMS and HSP friendly workout programs that are also great for total beginners. Some key points worth highlighting: 1) REST between the sets is mandatory. That’s the time when your stress response comes down AND your muscles recover. Stop the high intensity stuff and going for million reps! 2) Doing exercises at your own pace, not rushing trying to follow a fast-moving instructor, allows you to focus on FORM and again, have rest between the sets ⬆️ 3) You can easily get muscle definition from a bodyweight program, just like Train to Build STARTER! But not any bodyweight program will do that. It has to be put together correctly — trust someone who has programmed workouts for YEARS 🙋🏼‍♀️ 4) Strength training also builds mental resilience, and it teaches you to give less Fs about what others think 5) Your TMS and anxiety are likely to improve. Why? Because you are no longer telling your brain 🧠 that you are afraid; instead you are showing it that you are tough and strong 6) NOT GIVING UP is critical. This is for everyone but mostly my TMS people who are tempted to back off when a sensation comes up... You can pause, but don’t stop. You can pause for a little self care, but not stop for an entire month or year! 7) Share the word! :) Train to Build STARTER is open! Surrender ….when all else fails, surrender, easy to post, hard to implement. To me, the word surrender has always translated to defeat, thus my inability to surrender easily. Add, I am a Virgo (read: perfectionist) and highly sensitive (read: empath), I just want to help (read: trauma patterns) I don’t surrender AT ALL. I will fight to fix, to improve, fix (not a typo 😉), adjust, especially for those I love, because we, Virgos, also love deeply 🥰. In a world, that is currently dangling self-improvement like a shiny carrot, it sounds like those traits would be superpowers if I was fighting to help you. Well, they can be, but they also muddy the waters in terms of knowing when to step back and admit you have done all you can humanly possible to help. At some point, in order to surrender and break your own patterns, you have to lay down, not in defeat, but acceptance. I have recently been in a fight (see the pattern?) to not surrender on a situation that is very important and very much beyond my control. I wish I had the answers on how to do it easily. I don’t. I believe like everything else it takes practice. But a friend who is also going through something hard JUST texted me these words today. “TRUST ALWAYS” and to me they help make the laying down a bit easier. I would like to add, in a POWER GREATLY THAN YOU. So, to those also in the thick of it, I offer those words to you today. SURRENDER AND TRUST ALWAYS IN A POWER GREATER THAN YOU. Allowing yourself to prioritize your wellbeing is not selfish! 🤍 Often we put our needs behind those of others. It’s so normal for us that we actually feel guilty or egoistic if we don’t. But we’re not responsible for the wellbeing of others. If they have a problem, they can talk to us about it. They’re adults and can care for their wellbeing themselves. Sometimes people use us to compensate their negative feelings. But it’s not our responsibility to function in that way. And sure if we’re no longer available for them, they’re gonna get angry because they have to face their feelings. But non of this is a reason to sacrifice our wellbeing. You’re the only person who is responsible for your wellbeing and who can actually care for it! No one else is looking after you if you don’t. Empaths/ HSP's process experiences quite deeply and intensely. Hurtful or insensitive comments made by others, are often unintentionally rehashed by someone who is more sensitive. Reasons for this can include, that we would have given greater consideration to the way something was conveyed (to avoid or minimize the impact of the words that could wound). We can struggle to understand how another could be so ignorantly inconsiderate in terms of words and actions. Other times, HSP / Empaths have experienced a life time of feeling 'out of place', 'different', and 'not belonging'. For many we have a heightened sense of vulnerability to rejection because our very way of being in the world has been met with degrees of disapproval or scrutiny from others which has become internalized. #hsp #empath #highlysensitiveperson #highlysensitive #empathy
