The sequel to the monk and robot story, A Prayer for the Crown-Shy by Becky Chambers, was everything I wanted and more - comfort, humor, hope, and a happy ending. This novella sees Dex and Mosscap on the second half of their journey around Panga. They’ve come out of the woods and are now traveling from town to town so Mosscap can interact with more people and ask them its essential question: what do humans need? Answers to this question vary widely and lead Mosscap to discovering the ins and outs of human experience and the way society works. Along the way, Dex continues soul-searching to try and figure out what their life’s purpose is and tries living without an occupation for a while. The same humor and philosophical questions as the first ground this book, and although there are many more characters involved this time around, the focus remains on the individual development of and relationship between Dex and Mosscap in a meaningful and beautiful way. I will forever treasure these books as a balm for the soul, as books that made me laugh and smile and cry and think hard about what my life means and what I want from it. It’s an incredible feat that Chambers has done all that in two novellas. . . . 📖The Island of Missing Trees is a beautiful story that covers relationships with family, sense of identity, history, war and hatred, racism, forgiveness and personal growth. Living in London, teenage Ada and her Greek-Cypriot born father Kostas are mourning the death of Ada’s mother/Kostas’ wife, Defne. The story switches back and forth between them in London and 1970s Cyprus where Kostas and Defne fell in love. I really liked this style and found the additional chapters where the fig tree speaks to the reader to be enriching for the story. The ensuing division and war in Cyprus between the Greeks and the Turks is a backdrop for this book with the seriousness of Defne being a Turkish Muslim and Kostas being a Greek Cypriot something that their daughter struggles to understand in modern day London. Defne’s estranged sister reaches out to visit them and during this time her and Ada begin to understand each other better. With stories about her parents’ youth and cultural information now being passed on to Ada, her heart opens to her parents’ roots in Cyprus and she feels ready to repair her relationship with her father. • • • • • • #theislandofmissingtrees #elifshafak #cypriothistory #cyprus #historicalfiction #historicalfictionbooks #historicalfictionnovel #bookstagram #figtree #booksbooksbooks #bookworm #booklover #bookrecommendations #bookcommunity #booklove #bookreview #bookreviews #bookreader #bookreviewer #bookgram #blue #romance #romancebooks #heartbreakbooks #sadbooks #hopefulbooks #drama #read #reader #reading

Happy Easter Monday! What was your best March read? And your worst? I haven't read as much as I wanted this month. In one of my previous #HopefulBooks posts, I mentioned I would aim at reading a couple more titles. But that's okay, I don't hold a grudge with myself. I got a bit stuck with #TheBookThatWouldntBurn due to its every slow pace. Overall, I enjoyed it a lot, but I was not happy with how a few aspects were managed. I hope the sequel will bring more light to that. Soon I will write a review. #TheGodAndTheGumiho was an eARC copy I kindly received. it will release the beginning of June and it's a read I would recommend if you like Korean comedy vibes. La corporazione dei maghi was a book I had on my TBR for a long time. Unfortunately, the lack of characterization let me down. #fantasybooks #fantasy #marchwraupup #amantedilibri #libri #letture #marchreads

🔪book review🫖 Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murd3r3r$ is a cozy mystery novel by Jesse Sutanto. I didn’t think I would end up liking this - I went in half expecting to DNF it, as I’m not usually a huge fan of mystery novels and even less so of cozy ones. I tend to find them pretty boring to be honest, maybe because I used to read so many in the past. But I picked this up anyways as it’s the March book club pick for @literallydeadclub - and well, I unexpectedly ended up enjoying this book a lot! The book starts when Vera Wong, an elderly Chinese lady with a fiery personality, finds a lifeless body on the floor of her teahouse and, suspecting foul play, she decides to investigate - she thinks she can do a better job than the police in finding the culprit, and maybe she’s right. The mystery plot was interesting enough, though what really pulled the story forward for me was the characters. It might be a little confusing in the beginning, as 5 different characters’ PoVs are introduced one after the other, but it really doesn’t take long to warm up to them. Every one of them is going through a difficult time in their lives, after having been swindled or mistreated by the murd3r victim - which also means that they all had reasons (apart from Vera herself) to want the dead man gone. The characters are all forced to spend time with each other because of Vera, and they unexpectedly become very close. I usually love the found family trope, and this was no exception! It really did warm my heart and made me feel strangely hopeful. I guess sometimes I just need some cozier, warmer reads to balance out all the dark books 😂 I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun, lighthearted, comforting mystery novel that will 100% make you feel more hopeful about the future. At least for a little while. Have you ever read a cozy mystery? Do you have any recommendations? 🫖

River Sing Me Home By Eleanor Shearer ⭐️: 4.5/5 Rachel, a slave at a Barbados plantation, runs away in the aftermath of the Emancipation Act of 1834, in order to find her five children, each taken from her when they were young. What follows is a journey from Barbados, to British Guiana, all the way to Trinidad, in order to reunite with her children, and maybe find freedom. I put this book off for so long, but it was such a good and memorable read that I’m disappointed in myself that I waited so long to read it! It really is a sneakily fast paced book, because it starts out with Rachel jumping into action, and the action never really stops. This made it a quick read, but also made you feel invested in Rachel, the story, and the characters you meet along the way. It was kind of like a quest book, but with real life things at stake. I loved how the book embodied feelings of resilience and hopefulness, while still not shying away from the barbarity of slavery. If this book is on your TBR, learn from my mistakes and don’t put it off any longer.

A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers is by far the most hopeful and humanist sci-fi book I’ve ever read and reading it felt like drinking a lovingly-made, warm cup of tea. The novella centers on a monk named Dex who shifted careers to become a master of tea and a listening ear who travels around all the villages of Panga, and Mosscap, a robot they meet in the woods while in pursuit of something greater. Mosscap, eager to learn about humanity generations after the robots gained consciousness and left for the wilderness, has been tasked with answering the question, “What do humans need?” They form an unlikely, humorous, and heartfelt friendship as they learn about each other’s inner and outer worlds. They ponder the logistics of each of their survival, the history that has separated them, and the purpose of their lives. The story is funny, it’s hopeful, it’s comforting, and it’s incredibly profound in its simplicity. It’s a story not of utopia, but of a world where humans were forced to pivot from a consumer mindset and created a much better world in its wake. Not a world devoid of problems, but one overflowing with respect and kindness, not just for each other, but for the wild world around them. And the way they speak of meaning, tackling familiar philosophical notions like humanism and nihilism in unpretentious and beautiful ways, brought me to tears more than once. I cannot accurately express how excited I am that a sequel to this book exists so I can continue the journey with Sibling Dex and Splendid Speckled Mosscap. It has been, and I expect it will continue to be, an absolute joy. . . . [Image: The book cover is a lovely illustration of winding dirt paths among wildflowers with a robot looking at butterflies in the upper corner and a non-binary person holding a cup of tea and sitting on a carriage of sorts in the bottom corner. ELSEWHERE by Gabrielle Zevin Zevin explores the afterlife in a fresh, intriguing way; and, despite the fact that the book is centred around death/life after death, it did not feel bleak. The author balances the gravity of the young character's situation with humour and sympathy, which allows us to sympathise with the emotional turmoil that she is going through as she tries to adjust to the afterlife. The reverse aging to reincarnation is an interesting premise, especially when factoring in how each character's death age determines how long they will spend on Elsewhere. The book ends on a hopeful note, with the notion of letting go and being open to what life may bring. I found this very refreshing as there is the sense of an ending but not finality. This was an impulse buy - I saw it when out and about and decided to purchase as I enjoyed Tomorrow & Tomorrow & Tomorrow. Although the latter is more complex and has more themes interwoven throughout, I felt like the former had the perfect balance of elements to explore Liz's experience of the afterlife. The Observation Decks and The Well are essential components to connecting the dead to their former lives - whether this is for good or bad reasons. I rate this book 4 stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I will definitely be keeping an eye out for any of Zevin's previous releases to add to my TBR. Another week, another audiobook finished. I want to thank @hwd.bookshelf for this recommendation. This was not an instant like. It really took me a while to get to the point at which everything changed for me. By then, my anger and frustration towards the main character turned into sadness and a growing anxiety that the story was not going to end well. Martha is a very complicated character, and although I knew she was battling depression, I still had doubts as to what was wrong with her. She could be really awful and unlikable at times, and I only liked her when she spoke about her sister. I question a lot whether Martha's negative attitude stemmed from her depression or an ugly personality. I even blamed her mother for trying to put an explanation to why Martha could be such an asshole sometimes. Turns out my struggle while reading the novel was basically the same struggle Martha had with herself. When key details about Martha were finally discussed, it changed everything I thought about her and those around her. Knowing the truth about Martha changed my assumptions about her and made me also rethink my assumptions about the people close to me who suffer from mental illness. Martha's true illness isn't given a name, and honestly, it doesn't need to have one. We don't need the name of the illness to acknowledge that the pain and suffering are real. I feel like we often chuck it up to the illness, but we don't face the reality that surrounds it. Misdiagnosis is a bit of a topic the novel covers and one that isn't usually depicted in novels relating to mental health. It can take a long time to get the correct diagnosis and treatment; by then, the illness has already wreaked havoc in someone's life as it did for Martha. However, I'm glad that in the end, knowing the truth was a new beginning for Martha. She might not have been able to change some aspects of her past, but she can try to build a better life. Oh yes, the audiobook is pretty good to listen to. #bookstagrams #bookish #bookstagram #audiobook #contemporaryfiction #goodreads #greatreads #audiobookreview #bookreview #bookrecommendations #booksbooksbooks #sadbooks #hopefulbooks #bookworm

"I’ve always loved old buildings, and I’m fascinated by stories and glimpses of the past. So when I came across the ruins of an old tuberculosis sanatorium not far from my home, I couldn’t get the place and its stories out of my mind. Writing LIGHT AND AIR allowed me to slip into 1935 for a few hours each day. The book takes place at a time when the only real treatment for tuberculosis consisted of rest, good food, and, as the title of the book suggests, sunlight and fresh air. In the story, Hallelujah Newton (Halle for short) and her mother are patients at a TB sanatorium. When Halle realizes her mom is not getting better, she vows to do whatever it takes to help her get well. The book is about hope and healing, about being brave and taking chances for the people you love, and about fighting for your happy ending. My wish is that anyone who reads the book will find hope to cling to in hard times and will fight as hard as they can for their own happy endings." #lightandair #mindynicholswendell #mglit #historicalfiction #hopefulbooks #authorspotlight #middlegradebooks #middlegradeauthors #newbooks #2024books #books #book #bookstagram #holidayhouse

#RecentReads All three of my reads this year have been memoirs, so safe to say I’ve had a nonfiction-y start to the year! First I read Keira & Me by Noel Fitzpatrick - a poignant, beautifully illustrated memoir that reads like a love letter from Noel to his dog, Keira. *Trigger warning for pet death* In Landlines by @raynor.winn , Moth and Ray once again put on their backpacks and head into the great outdoors. It is an inspiring, feel-good memoir that emphasises the importance of looking after this one land of ours, the power of hope, and never, ever giving up. This has kept me company on some soggy dog walks recently, and really made me want to get my boots on and get out there! In Many Different Kinds of Love, Michael Rosen reflects on his near-death experience after contracting covid, and the care he received from NHS staff. It’s an emotional read; a mixture of long-form poem, letters, emails and tweets. The letters written by NHS staff to Michael while he was in a coma really got to me! These were all hopeful reads, even if they all had me tearing up at times too! I recommend all of them, but especially Landlines and Many Different Kinds of Love, which were both 5 star reads for me. 🗓️ January Hopefuls For 2024 I’m focusing on my owned books as well as rereading some old favourites. I recently catalogued my home library and as I scanned them all into the app (Reading List) I was reintroduced to so many that I loved at the time but have little or no recollection about! Once that was sorted, I wanted to pull my January hopefuls and was sidetracked by all the books that would be fun to read for February…all pink 🩷 which led my distracted mind to aim for choosing books by colour. Thus, my January stack of all dark blues was created. I’m not sure how long it will last, this colour business, but it’s fun to see if I have enough on the tbr to pick 10 books a month by colour. Being a hard core mood reader means I may not read ANY of these but it’s fun to try and predict. Here’s the January hopefuls: Tidelands-has been on my 22in2022 AND 23in2023 lists so she’s long overdue for a read. The Infinite Moment of Us -reread Saint Anything Eight Perfect Hours - a leftover from my holiday reading list The Little Bookshop on the Seine - winter read Party of Two - continuing the series for a lighter option Beartown, Us Against Them - both rereads to get ready to read… Winners - big beast of a book to finish the series Reasonable Adults - another carryover from the holiday list So that’s where I’m at for now. I’m also hoping to join in a couple challenges along the way but with me working more these days I’m finding it hard to balance it all. I’m hoping to be gentle and kind with myself about my goals; not just in reading and bookstagramming but with all aspects of life. Are you participating in any reading challenges? Here’s the last read I want to squeeze into 2023. Iron Widow has been on my TBR for longer than I’d like to admit, mostly out of a fear for disappointment because my expectations are so high… But it’s time to bite the bullet because its sequel, Heavenly Tyrant, will be released in April and that cover is divine. 👑Mortal Queens by Victoria Mccombs👑 ************* Oh how I loved this book! To begin with, Victoria’s writing drew me into the story from the very beginning, it was fast paced enough to keep me hooked but also with enough description that I could picture everything in the fae world perfectly! I also loved Althea the main character. She was stubborn and tough without losing her feminity and I really enjoyed that. She reminded me a little of the things I liked about Feyre in ACOTAR, and also Scarlett in Caraval, because while she was curious about the fae world and did almost get lost in the magic, she still managed to maintain her determination to survive and also to get back to her family. Another thing I truly enjoyed about this book, was the heart of the story. Althea is the kind of character who insists on having hope even in circumstances that seem impossible, she gets back up and fights again and again no matter the cost, and in the process she begins to spread hope to others. We need more characters like this in books! Characters that have hope, and refuse to give up on the people they love- reading about people that have that kind of courage is so inspiring for us living in the real world where hope can sometimes seem impossible. I’m so honored to have gotten to read a digital arc copy of this stunning book, and I can’t wait to buy a physical copy when it comes out! Thank you @victoria_mccombs 🤍🤍

📖 From the Desk of Zoe Washington by Janae Marks Review 📖 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ When Zoe gets a letter from her dad in prison on her 12th birthday, she doesn’t know what to say. He claims he didn’t commit the crime he was accused of but how could that be? She has to know more but that means hiding his letters and her investigation from the people she loves most. I loved this book so much from the first few pages! Despite being a middle grade novel, it was writing impeccably, with such complexity and heart. It discusses some hard hitting, deep topics like racism, especially in the legal and justice system. I loved the characters so much. Zoe is a joy to follow every step of the way from her baking aspirations to her investigation into her father’s alleged innocence. I also loved the side characters like Zoe’s mum and grandmother. I absolutely flew through this book and I would definitely pick this up for a reread. And the ending made me shed a little tear as well. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone talk about this book and that’s a damn shame because I think it’s incredible! Highly recommend! I cannot believe this whirlwind of a book tour is already over! And what a tour it has been: 40 readings in 60 days in 10 states. Here are some of my highlights, but I will surely continue to post more photos in the upcoming weeks. Thank you for everyone involved in making this tour a success - from my lovely publisher at @titletownbooks over everyone who invited and hosted me for readings to the very many members of the Kern family who supported me along the way. Most of all a heartfelt thank you to all of YOU who came to the readings, bought the book and left reviews. I’ll definitely be back for another book tour, so if you want me to come to you next time, let me know. Happy First Sunday of Advent! (look this was a spur of the moment idea so don't @ me 😂) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You may be familiar with the tradition of lighting purple and pink candles for the weeks of Advent (the Advent wreath), but did you know that each candle represents a different idea? Today, Dec. 3, is the first Sunday of Advent, so we light the first candle that represents hope, and I've compiled some recs for books that espouse hope as well! 😁 these books either have hope as a main theme, or feature characters who are (or have to choose to be) hopeful. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🕊️Up in Flames by Hailey Alcaraz 🕊️Where You See Yourself by Claire Forrest 🕊️The Davenports by Krystal Marquis 🕊️A Secret Princess by Melissa de la Cruz and Margaret Stohl 🕊️With and Without You by Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka 🕊️All My Rage by Sabaa Tahir 🕊️I Must Betray You by Ruta Sepetys 🕊️This Rebel Heart by Katherine Locke 🕊️And We Rise by Erica Martin 🕊️When We Make It by Elisabet Velasquez ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ID: a two-slide graphic on a pink background. slide 1 features a purple candle and black text that reads, "advent reads: week 1: hope". slide 2 has the covers of the books listed in the caption collaged over the background.

🍑 'Go As A River' by Shelley Read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5. On a cool autumn day in 1948, Victoria Nash delivers late-season peaches from her family's farm set amid the wild beauty of Colorado. As she heads into her village, a dishevelled stranger stops to ask her the way. How she chooses to answer will unknowingly alter the course of both their young lives. I went into this one quite blind to the story. It was heart-wrenching, and I went through a whole range of emotions. Victoria's coming of age story is raw and tragic but sprinkled with bright moments of hope and the magic of nature. This is a book that stayed with me long after finishing, and I highly recommend it. #goasariver #shelleyread #fiction #comingofagestories #books #bookstagram #booksta #generalfiction #greatstories #nature #hopefulbooks #bookjourney #characterjourney #bookish #bookreview #audiobookreview #booklovers #booklove #bookishlove #booksbooksbooks

The Foghorn Echoes by Danny Ramadan Brianna's rating 5/5 Scroll for Goodreads synopsis Such a beautiful, hauntingly sad story with a hopeful ending. I absolutely loved it, and I saw so much of myself in the main characters although we don't really have much in common other than being humans. It was interesting to read about a situation so different from mine (being a gay man in the Syria) juxtaposed against something a lot more relatable to me (being queer in Vancouver). This is definitely one of my top reads this year and will sit with me for a long time. Book review of 📚Britt-Marie Was Here by Fredrik Backman ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 What a brilliant, heartwarming story! I’ve read four of Backman’s books and I’ve loved each one. Backman handles such tough topics in a lighthearted manner and you close each book feeling uplifted and hopeful. Britt-Marie Was Here is no different. We first meet Britt-Marie in My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry. It helps to read this one first to really get to know Britt-Marie, but it isn’t completely necessary. ✔️Recommended to those who like: -Quirky characters, such as Eleanor Oliphant -A Man Called Ove -Small communities that you’ll fall in love with -Soccer ❌Not recommended to those who don’t like: -Quirky characters, such as Eleanor Oliphant (if you easily find characters dislikable, you may not find the charm in Britt-Marie) -Slower-paced plots that are more focused on characters -Open endings (the ending is perfect for the story, but I know some readers don’t like this) ❓Who is one of your favorite book characters? #literaryfiction #bookreview #brittmariewashere #fredrikbackman #fivestarbooks #amancalledove #mygrandmotheraskedmetotellyoushessorry #eleanoroliphantiscompletelyfine #5starbooks #heartwarmingbooks #hopefulbooks

‼️Book Review‼️ The dead romantics ⭐️ rating - 4.5 stars 📚 genre - romance I was actually surprised by how much I loved this book, I knew due to the genre that I was going to like it but I actually loved all the spiritual references too. The slow burn was brilliant in this book and the ending, thank god was what I wanted! From the authors sharp sarcastic tones to the way her quirky family were written, this book was brilliant. For me it was also a book full of hope and how we each cope after a loss and that things will some how be ok. ♥️ Definitely worth a read, add to your TBR now! Who’s read this one? The Celebrants ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This one took me a little longer than usual only because I was positive I was going to cry with every new chapter… turns out, I just cried at the end. Loved this story of lifelong friends and a unique pact born from tragedy. This was my first book from Steven Rowley but it won’t be my last! Also, I’m desperately trying to ring in the Fall so this is the last pool pic until next year, probably. 🤪

In the Lives of Puppets by TJ Klune ⭐ 4/5 ⭐ Imagine a Pinocchio-inspired tale, mixed with a bit of the Wizard of Oz and set in a dystopian future where robots reign and humanity has been all but wiped out. Victor, a human raised by a robot, has to go on a journey to save his father, accompanied by his eclectic and mismatched robot friends. - The characters in this book were so well done. Each had their own quirks and personality and helped to weave detail into the setting and story. My favourite was Nurse Ratched who made me laugh often. - Compared to The House in the Cerulean Sea and Under the Whispering Door, I found the plot less engaging overall. It just didn't feel as magic, although still good. Maybe my expectations were set too high? The ending, however, was poignant and moving and on par with the previous novels. - In the Lives of Puppets will have you debating what it means to be a person, a human. The fluidity of purpose and designation, determining one's own course and deciding who you are are all subjects I debated whilst reading. If you liked Klune's previous works then In the Lives of Puppets is definitely worth reading. It is both cosy and, literally, heartbreaking.

Two for Tuesday. This week it’s the two physical books I’m reading. Both completely different, one is fiction, the other vignettes, poems and mini essays, but both at their route are about hope, about living a life with it and finding comfort in the people and things around you. And we could all do with a little hope every now and then. Ad: PR products

It was really fun to be on Fox 9 Good Day this morning to share three hopeful beach reads. And honestly, of course, also a bit nerve-wracking to freestyle about books on live television. The anchors noted that my outfit matched this memoir, THE MANY LIVES OF MAMA LOVE by @laralovehardin which comes out tomorrow—I adore this book by my literary agent who is an NYT bestselling author and powerhouse of a storyteller. I am not sure if dressing like a beloved book is a plus, but it feels like a yes. Is this a new trend? I borrowed the skirt from my mother: double trend. Who knows what could happen this Halloween? I love sharing about books that have impacted me, in part, because reading is known to boost empathy, which is something we really need in this world. And because books have helped me personally through difficult times again and again—and given me new perspectives on the human experience. And sometimes, books are just joyful and entertaining; reading does not always need to be deep at every moment. Here's looking at you, modern romance novels (of which I am also a fan). Long live books, they change lives. Thank you to authors @laralovehardin @elissa.epel and @cyndiespiegel for these beautiful, hopeful reads and to @shaynewells and @kelly_oconnell_tv and everyone at @fox9 for being so welcoming. I absolutely adore this book. It has made the hours in the hospital with my daughter Eden more bearable—even when I wasn’t reading (which was most of the time—this picture is from a rare quiet moment) I knew that I had it with me, which gave me something to look forward to. Like carrying around a bar of the best dark chocolate: even if it’s not in your mouth, you know it could be. You can see from the edges of the cover, this book has been through things. THE MANY LIVES OF MAMA LOVE by @laralovehardin is witty, raw, surprising, and deeply relatable, even if you have zero felonies on your record. It is about recovery, making mistakes, and finding acceptance—and meaning and love—instead of shame. It is hopeful in a very gritty and real way, which is exactly what has been so soothing. It comes out August 1st and you can pre-order it now wherever you get your books. The author, Lara Love Hardin, is dear to me—she is my literary agent, and a person who took a chance on my book THE UNLIKELY VILLAGE because she understood the bigger themes right away. Lara is a brilliant writer, human, and a creative powerhouse, and I can’t wait for you to get your hands on her memoir. #summerbooks #hopefulbooks #booksbooksbooks #readthismemoir #memoir #hope #bookstgram #reading #bookworm #readinglist #bookcommunity

Book Review 📚- The Magic of Lemon Drop Pie by Rachel Linden ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ When I chose this book, I was in a dark place in my life and needed a book to help pick me up. This book definitely did that. It was uplifting and gave a feeling of hopefulness through and through. If you ever need a pick me up book, or are just looking for an uplifting and fun read, I recommend this one. Short synopsis: An uplifting novel about a heartbroken young pie maker who is granted a magical second chance to live the life she didn’t choose. QOTD: What is your favorite type of pie or cobbler? ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I fell in love with TJ Klune after reading The House in the Cerulean Sea last year. The setting, the heart behind the characters, the found family... I could go on and on. When I came across Under the Whispering Door, I knew I had to dive in as soon as possible. During our stay at @omnigrovepark earlier this month, I got cozy in the lobby every morning in front of the massive fireplaces and experienced every emotion possible while reading this book. Highly recommend. Keep tissues close.

📢 #AmishFunFacts About Worship 🙏 Did you know that Amish worship traditions differ from mainstream practices? Here are some fascinating facts about their unique way of worship, including insights from a firsthand experience at an Amish church service: 1️⃣ Unlike traditional church buildings, the Amish meet in homes, fostering a sense of community and intimacy within their gatherings. 2️⃣ Most communities have a bench wagon that delivers the benches for each service, showcasing their resourcefulness and commitment to simplicity. 3️⃣ Amish worship services typically last several hours, with multiple preachers sharing messages rooted in biblical teachings. The Bible is read in High German. Hymns sung in Pennsylvania Dutch, a dialect of German, play a significant role in their worship experience. 4️⃣ The Amish meet every other week, reflecting their deliberate approach to worship and the importance they place on family and agricultural responsibilities. 5️⃣ Following the service, the Amish gather for a potluck lunch, cherishing the opportunity to share a communal meal and strengthen their bonds. I'm back with another another captivating #AmishFunFact. The Amish possess a rich and intriguing history that began in 16th-century Europe. Emerging during the Protestant Reformation, they were led by Jakob Ammann, from whom they derived their name. Originally part of the broader Anabaptist movement, the Amish upheld the belief in adult baptism and advocated for the separation of church and state. Seeking religious freedom and a lifestyle in accordance with their convictions, a group of Amish, led by Jakob Ammann, ventured to America in the late 17th century. They established their settlements primarily in Pennsylvania, particularly within the picturesque region of Lancaster County. Remarkably, these Amish communities persist to this day. The Amish lifestyle is characterized by its simplicity, emphasis on humility, and the paramount importance of community. Shunning modern technology, they engage in manual labor and maintain traditional agricultural practices. The Amish have dutifully preserved their distinctive way of life through steadfast adherence to their religious principles and the transmission of their cherished traditions from one generation to the next. In the novel Where The Sun Never Sets by Stuti Changle, Iti is a tagline writer for businesses and ads. As the lockdown was about to start, she was given the chance to travel to her hometown and write a movie script during that time. Iti's life is explored in this diary-style book, from her previous connections with people like her first love Nishit and her best friend Shelly through her parents and coworkers! The author has attempted to establish the character of Iti and illustrate her transformation in her from being down in life to upliftment through many occurrences that have touched her, all while writing in simple language and switching between multiple timeframes throughout the diary! With the limited space provided, the dynamics of the company's employees are extremely well displayed. I identified most strongly with the character of Shyamala Didi since we see individuals like her frequently and can comprehend their viewpoints. However, I thought the book could provide thorough character development and illustrate more settings! The author was able to describe Mussoorie, a stunning city, through the eyes of young Iti. I thought there might be a bit around the story's narration. I believe that Iti's rapid attitude change should have been handled more subtly and smoothly rather than being a little hasty and abrupt. In conclusion, this book is a quick and uplifting read if you're someone who enjoys reading books with pleasant endings and uplifting messages.

I did an interview! After we met at a book signing for my novel, the so kind and talented @callychisholm suggested writing a piece on First Comes Love. And it’s out! You can find a delightful conversation between Cally and me in Nurturing Faith Journal (July-August edition) from @gfmediaorg . And I don’t have words. It was a an exciting and thoroughly enjoyable experience. Speaking with Cally was a treat and seeing the interview so beautifully laid out in the magazine (also Cally’s work) has left me…speechless. Which is not an easy thing to do. The interview is available to subscribers in the current edition of the magazine. It will be a few months before it’s available to non-subscribers online but you can bet your bottom dollar I’ll let you know when it is. I’ll share more pieces in my stories so follow along. And I’d highly recommend tuning into @gfmediaorg as well. 📚- Sunflower Author- @aleksandrjarid Rating-⭐⭐⭐⭐ I've read a few good books by Aleksandr Jarid in the past. My latest read has also been one of his books, "Sunflower". The title and cover of the book seems to be apt as per the plot. Author has tried to write a story about perspectives people utilise in their lives. He also indulged into the affective results of facing the Sun and still blooming with grace just like a sunflower. This book tells the story of a man who is broken and has had difficulty in practically every part of his life. He was going to lose his job, had lost the love of his life, and was psychologically unstable. During his search for the renowned van Gogh "Sunflower" painting, he encountered a person who helped him discover his self-worth and provided guidance. I enjoyed reading this book and I'd surely recommend it to my fellow readers. #hopefulbooks #booksofhope #bookstagrammers

Did you know Amish schools offer a distinctive approach to education? Let's explore these captivating classrooms! 🏫 Imagine a cozy one-room schoolhouse nestled amidst idyllic farmland, embraced by nature's beauty. 🌻🍃 Amish schools bring together children of different ages and grades, creating a supportive, dynamic learning environment. 📚❤️ As in all aspects of Amish life, technology takes a backseat in Amish schools. Instead, students embrace traditional tools like textbooks, blackboards, and good old-fashioned pencils. It's a refreshing break from the digital world! 💻📱 Amish education extends beyond the classroom. Children actively contribute to their families' farms and businesses, instilling a strong work ethic and responsibility. 💪🌾 Amish schools intertwine education with faith. Religious teachings are integrated into the curriculum, nurturing spiritual growth alongside learning. It's a beautiful blend of knowledge and faith! 🙏❤️ Amish children attend school until 8th grade, as they believe excessive education can lead to worldly distractions. This keeps their focus on community and simpler living. ✨🎒 If you find yourself in an Amish community, take a moment to appreciate their unique schools. Step back in time, relish the simplicity, and witness the wonders of education grounded in tradition, community, and old-fashioned charm. #AmishFunFacts #AmishLife #AmishSchool #UnderTheBlueSkies #AmishRomance #InspirationalReads #CleanRomance #HopefulBooks #WholesomeReads #BooksAboutFaith #ChristianAuthor #ChristianReader #LoveAmishFiction #HappilyEverAfter #christianbookstagram #christianfictionreaders #inspyromance #bigskyamish #bigskyamishcollection #sunrisepublishing

🧵💙Amish quilts hold a special place in many cultures, including my own Appalachian upbringing, where they are both practical necessities and cherished heirlooms. In Amish communities, quilting is a communal activity, bringing people together for quilting bees filled with stories, laughter, and strengthened bonds. The beauty of Amish quilts lies in their intricate designs, such as the Star of Bethlehem and 9-Patch Calico, which hold deeper meanings within the Amish culture, reflecting their values of simplicity, humility, and faith. What's your favorite quilt pattern? Do you have an heirloom quilt you love? I'd love to hear about it! #AmishFunFacts #AmishLife #AmishQuilts #Quilting #UnderTheBlueSkies #AmishRomance #InspirationalReads #CleanRomance #HopefulBooks #WholesomeReads #BooksAboutFaith #ChristianAuthor #ChristianReader #LoveAmishFiction #HappilyEverAfter #christianbookstagram #christianfictionreaders #inspyromance #bigskyamish #bigskyamishcollection #sunrisepublishing

It's "What I'm Reading" Wednesday! This week, my reading journey finds me in an Amish community in a Kentucky town. I snagged Kentucky author Mindy Steele's newest Miller Creek book, Ladybug Landing, a couple of weeks ago and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. 📚✨ The story beautifully captures the simplicity and intricacies of Amish life, as I delve into the lives of Nelly and Levi, the main characters. Their journey of faith, love, and self-discovery has me completely smitten. Steele's descriptive writing style makes every page come alive, transporting me to the picturesque landscapes and tight-knit community of Miller Creek. 🌾🌷 If you're a fan of heartwarming tales and small town sweetness, I highly recommend giving this book a read! When it comes to fashion, the Amish men have got it figured out! Their clothing is practical, durable, and designed to stand the test of time. You'll typically see them sporting comfy trousers, suspenders, plain shirts, and jackets or coats, all made from quality materials that can withstand even the toughest of chores. But don't let their plain and simple attire fool you - there's a deeper meaning behind their fashion choices. Amish men's clothing reflects their values of simplicity, humility, and modesty, which are deeply ingrained in their culture. That's why you won't catch them wearing flashy colors or patterns - they prefer more muted and earthy tones like browns, grays, and blues. And here's a fun fact - did you know that Amish men's clothing doesn't have buttons? That's right, they opt for hooks and eyes instead, as a symbol of their commitment to nonviolence and their desire to avoid military service. All in all, the Amish men's clothing tradition is an intriguing blend of practicality, simplicity, and symbolism. #AmishFunFacts #AllAbouttheAmish #AmishFashion #UnderTheBlueSkies #AmishRomance #InspirationalReads #CleanRomance #HopefulBooks #WholesomeReads #BooksAboutFaith #ChristianAuthor #ChristianReader #LoveAmishFiction #HappilyEverAfter #christianbookstagram #christianfictionreaders #inspyromance #bigskyamish #bigskyamishcollection #sunrisepublishing

Amish women's clothing is all about practicality and modesty. They typically wear long dresses or skirts, often with a simple blouse or sweater. The colors are muted, and the materials are high-quality, durable, and comfortable. One interesting aspect of Amish women's clothing is their headwear. They wear a white prayer covering or "kapp," which symbolizes their submission to God and modest lifestyle. Some also wear a black bonnet to shield their faces from the sun. It's important to note that clothing rules vary among Amish communities. However, the emphasis on simplicity, modesty, and high-quality materials is a consistent theme. Amish women's clothing is a beautiful expression of their culture and values, and a testament to the idea that fashion doesn't have to be flashy to be meaningful. #AmishFunFact #amishFashion #PlainClothes #UnderTheBlueSkies #AmishRomance #InspirationalReads #CleanRomance #HopefulBooks #WholesomeReads #BooksAboutFaith #ChristianAuthor #ChristianReader #LoveAmishFiction #HappilyEverAfter #christianbookstagram #christianfictionreaders #inspyromance #bigskyamish #bigskyamishcollection #sunrisepublishing

#bookreview #inthelivesofpuppetsreview In the lives of puppets by #tjklune Published: April 25, 2023 Fiction/ dystopian/ scifi/ found family/quest/ humanity/ human vs machines/ forgiveness/ love Thank you @netgalley for providing the eARC in exchange for an honest review. 5/5 I started reading this a few months back, and every time I had to put it down. It’s one of the books you want to finish asap to know what happens next, and at the same time wish it wouldn’t end so soon. tjklunebooks has done it again! I thought he can’t top how #thehouseintheceruleansea made me feel, but I am glad to report I was proven wrong. This book is all ❤️! Giovanni Lawson (aka Gio aka General Information Operative) escapes to the forest and there he makes a home among the trees. When a baby is left in his care, he brings him up as his own son and names him Victor/Vic. Along the way, Vic fixes a sociopathic nursing machine, Nurse Rached and an neurotic Vacuum, Rambo, and together they make a motley family, living in the jungle. Everything changes when Vic rescues a decommissioned Robot, Hap- Hysterically Angry Puppet and gives him a heart. When Hap unwittingly leads the authorities to them and Gio is taken away, Vic decides to go to the City of Electric Dreams to rescue Gio, and along came Nurse Rached, Rambo, and Hap. Their adventures along the way, meeting people he had never heard of, and learning the truth, his own truth is what the story is all about. Can Vic find forgiveness and enough love in his heart to move on from what people he loved had done? This is such a hopeful and endearing story. And that regardless of how we are programmed, there is always a choice. All the characters are very well fleshed out. Even the transient ones, where you get a good sense of what the character is about within a few pages. Highly recommended! Let the adventure begin! And as with all adventures, these are the rules: “Stick together. Run of you have to. No dallying. No drilling (Nurse Rached disagrees). And above all else, Be brave!” #bookstagram #fiction #scifi #hopefulbooks #manvsmachine #dystopian
