We are conditioned to believe that going on a diet improves our health. This is not true. Dieting is the restriction of calories in order to shed fat, usually at any cost, including your health. Diet and weight loss clubs hide behind syns and points because they don't want you to have knowledge. Otherwise, you wouldn't keep going back! If Dieting actually worked, we would all be super healthy by now, and they'd be out of business, right? Focusing on nourishing your body for health is completely different! You get educated about nutrition and what living a healthy lifestyle actually means. You focus on fuelling and nourishing your body in a way that feels good for you. This includes allowing yourself permission to eat for pleasure as well as nutritional value and finding a balance that works. It removes the "good" food "bad" food mentality and gives you food freedom. When shrinking your body is not the end goal, it is easier to improve your overall health. Healthy does not equal skinny. Sometimes it can be really hard to remain body positive. I think itโs something we all find hard now and again, and I think thats complicated further when you have an illness that effects how your body looks from day to day ๐ Having Crohnโs disease means I spend a lot of my time really bloated or with a distended stomach, which doesnโt always help my confidence. Multiple abdominal surgeries also mean I have a different stomach to most people. You don't need a perfect toolbox to manage every situation! We all have healthy coping mechanisms we rely on to manage stress and navigate tricky situations. But what happens when those tools aren't readily available? Maybe you're at a family gathering with that relative who always comments on your food choices, or stuck in a stressful work environment without your usual mindfulness routine ๐ Here are some tips to navigate those moments: ๐Change your space Sometimes, a simple change of scenery can work wonders. Feeling overwhelmed at the table with all the comments about weight, body and food? Excuse yourself and take a walk outside for a few minutes. Distance can help you regain perspective. ๐ฌ๏ธTake deep breaths Take a few slow, deep breaths. Focusing on your breath can activate your body's relaxation response, helping you manage stress in the moment. ๐Acceptance is key It's okay not to be okay sometimes! Accepting your current situation and feelings without judgment can be incredibly empowering. You don't have to force positivity, but you can choose to navigate the situation with self-compassion. ๐ญKnow that your feelings are validated Sometimes, simply acknowledging your feelings is enough. You don't need to "fix" anything or force yourself to feel differently. Validate your emotions and know they are temporary. ๐Feel the feels, then move on It's okay to be frustrated! Suppressing emotions can lead to unhealthy practices later. Let yourself feel your feelings for a moment, then use a calming technique like deep breathing to move forward. Hi, itโs me again ๐๐ป If I am being completely honest, starting this page was originally a way of getting validation for losing weight. Iโve always seeked approval from others to confirm that I am good enough because I wasnโt able to give it to myself, saying that, no matter how many times someone may have told me that I am good enough I never quite believed them. Iโve put a lot of work into myself over the years and with that had an urge to help others who may feel the same way this however turned into a โletโs fix others, so I donโt have to continue fixing myselfโ mentality. I stopped investing time into this page because I believed that in order to be able to give advice I would have to have my own shit together and for the past year that just hasnโt been the case yet deep down I knew that people connected with me because of my openness and honesty around my struggles and we shared that sense of connection knowing that if I could do it, they could do it and vice versa. Iโm 21 weeks pregnant today. It has been a rollercoaster of a ride so far. Trying to adjust my mind to my new body has probably been the biggest issue. That judgmental voice in my head has reared big time and has continuously put myself down, creating fear that after all Iโve done, after all I have been through to lose weight I had failed, scared of the judgement from the outside world, yet my own judgement being the worst. As I write this post I can feel my little baby moving inside me. Reassuring me that me and this little peanut are going to be just fine and that no matter what we will love each other beyond words. As the sun comes out, so do my nerves about getting my body out (โI know I can hear the sighs and the concerned statements from here, โwhat have you got to worry about?โ). Women of all sizes can have worries about their bodies, just because I might be the โaccepted sizeโ of society it doesnโt mean I donโt have hang ups with the way I look. Donโt forget these pics were taken in my studio with a ring light and some fake tan (still super pasty ๐) Anyway, this was not the reason for this post, what I wanted to share was an item Iโve found that really highlights the parts of my body I do feel more confident about, and hides the ones I donโt. Itโs from a brand Iโve worked with a lot, but itโs not an ad, I ordered it myself as I was curious about the style. Itโs tricky to find pieces that tick all the boxes when itโs really hot, and you canโt hid under a baggy knit and if you donโt wear little dresses. One of the most surprising things about this piece for me is the colour ๐ I donโt usually opt for bright blue, but for some reason this seems to work. Reflecting on my journey with ๐๐ค๐๐ฎ ๐๐ฎ๐จ๐ข๐ค๐ง๐ฅ๐๐๐, Iโve realized the impact of three significant mistakes I made over the years: 1. For years, I lived in ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ , convinced that eating less was the key to controlling my weight. This wreaked havoc on my metabolism and overall health. Now, Iโve learned the importance of nourishing my body with balanced, wholesome foods, understanding that deprivation only made the problem worse. 2. Desperate for rapid weight loss, I turned to ๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐, hoping for a quick fix. However, these shortcuts only masked the underlying issues. By shifting my focus to gut health supplements, Iโve addressed the root causes of my struggles and experienced sustainable, long-term weight management. 3. ๐ช๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ became my constant companion, as I endlessly longed for a body that wasnโt mine. Too often the big moments are clouded by our critical thoughts and judgement around our bodies and food intake. You try to eat perfectly leading up to a big event, only to โgive inโ to the same foods you donโt allow yourself to have. You worry about how your body looks in photos, not allowing yourself to be fully present in the moment with those you love the most. You feel frustrated that you didnโt hit your target weight OR maybe you did hit that target weight leading up to the event but what did you have to give up for that to happen? Chances are your body will change back to how it was after the event and yet you wind up blaming yourself, asking why you couldnโt just stick to the program. These big events are not about how many times you worked out that week, how many vegetables you ate or the size of your dress. Sadly, these may be the memories you remember. Fabulous few days away with friends ๐๏ธ๐ Years ago I thought that I could only feel confident in myself on holidays if I was thinner than my friends I would tell myself every year that I would โget in shape for summerโ But every time I tried to cut back on my eating - making certain foods off limits or going hours without eatingโฆ Iโd find myself back eating those same foods, only this time Iโd be filled with shame for having โfailedโ As Summer would come closer I would berate myself in my head for not having stuck to my commitment ๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ Standing in the changing rooms trying on new clothes, cringing at how I looked in them At some point this desire to be thinner, coupled with my life being out of control, led to me losing the weight Iโd always wanted to I felt happier with myself when I went shopping BUT that was short lived ๐ ๐ผโโ๏ธ Because the holidays I was excited to โlook goodโ on were now filled with fear that I would โlet myself goโ and put it all back on So I would avoid certain foods and drinks, choosing to order my own food rather than share with the group and partake in the fun As everyone laughed and let go, I would be calculating the calories Iโd eaten in my head ๐ญ Or worrying about how my stomach looked ๐๐ป It took time, but I eventually started to see that being a smaller weight had actually reduced my ability to enjoy the holidays Iโd wanted to feel confident going on I started to question what was ACTUALLY making me feel so bad in myself if it wasnโt my weight ๐ค And when I realised what was making me feel so bad, I could start to learn ways to manage these triggers in more helpful ways Helping me start accepting my body and appreciating it Which helped me to start feeling more confident in myself going on holidays ๐๐๏ธ Able to chill on the beach in a swimsuit, while still joining in for food and fun with everyone ๐ฉฑ๐ฏ๐ฑ๐ฅ๐ง If you want to learn how to feel confident in your body this summer Then DM me CONFIDENCE now and letโs chat about how I can help you #bodyimageissues #summerbodygoals #bodyconfidencejourney

Comparison to other women, to yourself in the past, to yourself in the future, to your ex's new girlfriend, or your mom at your age. This is a conversation I often have with my clients: Client: I just want to be the size I was when I was thirty and then I'll be satisfied. Me: Were you satisfied when you were thirty? Client: No when I was thirty I wanted to be the size I was when I was twenty. People grow, and physiology changes. Have you ever heard of generational dieting? Alissa Rumseyโs book, โUnapologetic Eatingโ says this about intergenerational dieting trauma: that a focus on diet and weight causes trauma in past generations that then affects how people are within a family view food and their bodies. If no one in the family heals their from dieting, parentโs will continue passing this diet and weight focus down to further generations. She then goes on to write that children & adolescents of parents who provide weight-related feedback are more likely to diet, more likely to use unhealthy behaviors to try and control their weight, and more likely to engage in more binge eating. I want to say I believe that most parents do not try to cause this kind of harm with kids! Just doing the best they can with the information they have. But you, youโre here reading this now. Youโre learning new information. You have an opportunity to break generational dieting in your family and treat your body with respect, and thatโs an amazing thing! International No Diet Day is about encouraging self-love of our body and others bodies and reducing diet and weight stigma. We often feel that individual efforts on these things are not worthwhile, but that is not true. There are several ways that we can each help to end weight discrimination, fatphobia, and sizeism. Here are some ideas.... 1. Do your own learning to understand the inefficacy of commercial diets and learn about impact of diet culture and how this shows up in your work or community. 2. Work to internally embrace body diversity and challenge the idea of one 'right' body shape/size. You can begin to do this by following size inclusive accounts on social media. 3. Spend the day free from dieting and leaning into thoughts and actions designed to control your own shape and weight. 4. Compliment others on contributions, achievements, and skills, rather than focusing on appearance. 5. Eat what you love! Donโt worry about the calories or any other macros. Instead, eat what you truly want to eat because it tastes good. Let that be your only concern today. 6. Throw away (or even just set aside for the day or week) your scales - body weight and food weight scales. 7. Celebrate and acknowledge your intrinsic value by creating and sharing some affirmations about yourself that are not related to appearance. 8. Cook something that you have always wanted to but you have never cooked before. 9. Dress comfortably today rather than focus on what others might think about how you look. Neutrality is (for me) the practice of non-attachment. Being able to have my feelings without getting swept away by them. When we can confront an opinion without creating a story about it, we suffer less. It becomes an opinion, without the pressure to assume that opinion is an emergency. But HOW? The practice of non-attachment when it comes to my body image was hard-won. It took practice, and lots of it.
