Hello Colostrum Collecting 👋🏼 It's finally that time of the pregnancy where the importance of collecting your colostrum has come! Last pregnancy I had absolutely no clue what I was doing, how to collect it or the importance of good liquids and nutrition was - and that showed 🤣 I was lucky to be able to collect one syringe of this liquid gold for Huddys impending arrival. This pregnancy I'm a little more switched on - the first child is always the experiment right 😆 Throughout the 37 weeks of growing this active sports star, I've drank so much water, I've opted for more breastmilk producing foods, I've been more consistent with my wholefood capsules and it's finally paying off, I feel anyway! My first two syringes have been diddly squat - however they've been a good effort - but today I've produced more colostrum in one sitting than I have ever done 🎉 I'm hoping if I continue doing what I'm doing nutrition wise and regular hand expressing sessions, I'll be able to walk into that birth suite with a healthy handful of colostrum! **Though! Keep in mind, it is totally normal if you choose not to, or cannot provide colostrum for your baby! Are you planning an unmedicated or medicated vaginal birth, or caesarean? You may like to consider putting a TENS machine in your tool kit. Do you know what a TENS unit is? 🤷🏻♀️ ⚡️TENS stands for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation, and basically acts as an interrupter to pain signals in your body (via Gate Control Theory). Instead of your brain being only focused on your contractions/localized pain, it has to split focus with the sensations created by the little pulses from the unit, which takes the edge off those contractions/pain. Pretty cool, right?! Let me give some examples of when you may want to use a TENS... ❤You plan to use an epidural, but want to labour as long as you can without it. ❤You are not viable for an epidural (it happens) and need a form of pain relief. ❤You are having a cesarean birth and need relief from post-birth pains. ❤You want to forego medicinal pain relief options altogether (many clients have used only a TENS for pain relief during labour & birth - even those who considered IV pain meds or an epidural prior to labour). ❤You are having discomfort directly after birth (afterpains). ❤You need relief from the discomforts of postpartum healing or need help relaxing when breastfeeding." I counted my breaths knowing once I got past 10 then my contraction would peak and ease off. I also hyper-focused on spelling a word out and breathing with each letter....that was totally random but instinctual for me. We are officially 1 month out until Alessia’s estimated due date! (6/8/24) I would love to hear everyone’s guesstimate of her arrival. EARLY, ON TIME OR LATE?! The realization has completely set in! We’re still in the midst of moving into our new home and finishing out the school year, but with all of that I have to say, we are beyond blessed and excited for all that’s to come for our soon to be family of 4. 🩷 Alessia’s been comfortable in the head down position for easily 10 weeks, and Luciano decided to surprise us all and arrive in Frank breech position. All done at home, no pain meds and with a second degree tear. Luciano arrived 8 days after his due date, so I’m curious if baby girl will come late like him, early or right on time. Walker is going to be a big brother!! 😭🥰 For those who’ve followed our journey since Walker’s birth, you know we’ve been transparent about our story, anticipating the day we could proclaim, “Look what God did!” We’re praising God and giving Him all the glory as we embark on this sweetest journey again with baby Taylor #2! The desire to be a mother to multiple children has been in my heart for as long as I can remember. After the trauma I endured following Walker’s birth, there was a time when I doubted if it would ever be possible and almost settled to the thought and believing the lies that Walker would be an only child. However, I’ve been reminded countless times that the Lord places dreams and desires in our hearts for a purpose, and He hears us when we call upon Him. He is good and He is faithful. His plans are always better than our plans, and His timing is perfect. Though the road to this moment hasn’t been the easiest, every single moment has been worth it to get us to this point. My word for this year is “HEALED,” and my verse is Genesis 50:20: “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” I may not know what you’re facing or the details of your story, but I want to remind you that whatever trials you’re enduring, what the enemy meant for evil, God will turn for good. He hears you. He loves you. Never forget how good and faithful our God is! One day you will look back and say “Look what God did!” I pray our story brings hope to those that need it because if He can do it for us, He can do it for you.
