"The Unseen" by Alexandra Sokoloff is a gripping supernatural thriller that delves into the eerie world of paranormal research. The story follows Dr. Laurel MacDonald, a psychology professor who moves to Duke University after a failed relationship. While searching for a compelling research topic, she discovers records of the Rhine ESP experiments and becomes drawn to their mysteries. Along with another professor and two students, she decides to recreate these experiments in a haunted mansion, the Folger House, known for its dark past and supernatural occurrences. The novel is praised for its atmospheric storytelling and Sokoloff's ability to blend suspense, horror, and romance. The progression from a slow-burn introduction to a fast-paced, chilling climax keeps readers engaged and on edge. The character development, particularly of Laurel and her colleagues, adds depth to the narrative, making the supernatural elements more intense. For fans of the paranormal genre, "The Unseen" offers a fresh twist on ghost stories and explores the boundaries between reality and the supernatural. ⭐️ Book Review ⭐️ Finished up reading “Peaches and Honey” by R. Raeta and oh my goodness... The writing is beautiful! This book is artistic and very atmospheric in a way. The emotions of the main characters played out very realistically. I truly connected with Anna and her amazing growth. I loved the historical aspects and how the FMC was a part of so many pieces of history. Now, the romance in this book is definitely a slow-burn, like drags on and on slow burn and more of a second-thought in my opinion, which is actually just fine. The rest of the book held its own. Overall, LOVED this book and can’t wait to read the next in the series! . . #PeachesAndHoney #RRaeta #BeautifulWriting #AtmosphericRead #EmotionalJourney #CharacterGrowth #HistoricalFiction #SlowBurnRomance #ConnectWithAnna #MustReadBook

You Are Here - David Nicholls 🏞️ I've had a lush morning outside on my garden furniture finishing this audiobook 🔊 It was a slow burner, but I loved the general atmosphere of adventure and real life topics. There were lots of great conversations about loneliness and aging. Dating and aging, and how people perceive those things. Although it wasn't a 5 star for me, it was still really enjoyable and I ended up giving it a 4 overall. Not my usual read, but it's good to branch out 😁 #youarehere #davidnicholls #sundayreading #sundayreads #gardenreading #atmosphericread #journey #adventure #readingtime #reading #readingislife #readmore #readmorebooks #readerlife #readersofinstagram #readerforlife #bookstagrammer #bookstagramuk #bookstagram #booklife #booklover #bookworm #booknerd #notmyusualread #natureread

Spitting Gold by Carmella Lowkis ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ NetGalley Review 'When one looks back upon one’s time on Earth – across the span of years and decisions that have carried one from birth to wherever one is now – it is nigh impossible to point out a single particular moment and say, ‘Yes, here. This is where it all began to go wrong.’ But still one tries.' Baroness Sylvie Deveraux receives a house call from her disowned sister Charlotte. In fear that her past as a spirit medium has caught up with her, Sylvie decides to join her sister on one last con. This was a dark, atmospheric read. I did find Sylvie a bit irritating and just really wanted to be listening to Charlotte, which to my suprise came in part two, and from then on, I absolutely loved the book. Mimi was such a great addition to the book I wished we'd seen a bit more from him. I thought the way the book ended was right, and it changed the way I thought about Sylvie. QOTD: Do you like atmospheric reads? What was your last or favorite one? Anna’s husband calls her and confesses to killing someone, and then his body is found washed up on the banks of the Rio Grande. Anna decides to piece together what really happened and moves into his studio apartment that he used for his art. She spends her days getting close to her neighbors and absorbing gossip. When threatening letters start appearing at her door, she must decide if finding the truth is more important than her safety. Cass has been running the Sycamores, a run-down apartment complex, for a while. Barely scraping by, she starts blackmailing sleazy men to get by. It works, until she defrauds the wrong guy. With everything to lose and no one to trust, Cass must fight to keep her secrets under wraps, especially with Anna snooping around. I have very conflicting thoughts about this book. I struggled getting into this one and I found the majority of the book to be incredibly slow. I usually finish most books in one sitting, but I really had no desire to do so with this one and found it easy to put down and predictable. However, despite being slow this book did have some positive points. It was incredibly descriptive, and I felt like I was right there with the characters in these shabby, run-down converted apartments. The atmospheric writing is why I kept reading as it was really the best part. If you are looking for a suspenseful light read, then check this one out. I would read more by this author as she really does know how to make you feel like you are there experiencing the story with the characters. Thank you so much to Harlequin Trade Publishing, Graydon House and Netgalley for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review. #harlequintradepublishing #graydonhouse #thevacancyinroom10 #atmosphericread #moodyreads #booksandcoffee #readingisfun #booklion #bookrecs #justread #weekendreads #nowreading #readmorebooks #readingtime

🕯️ Just finished reading "Black Candle" by Christine Randell and I'm completely immersed in its pulpy gothic romance atmosphere! 🖤 From the eerie old farmhouse to the scent of evil lingering in the air, this book delivers on every level. ....... Black Candle I could feel that evil things had happened in this house and that evil people had lived here. Overlaying the chill, the damp, the smell of death and decay, was an overwhelming sense of awareness that evil forces were at work, and had been throughout the centuries. This is Lorna's first reaction to Maulicrane Farm where she has come to visit her dying father - a father she had never met. As the days pass, events prove to Lorna that there is still a very real danger at Maulicrane. At first she believes it is her father who is threatened - kept in a drugged state so that he cannot recover from his mysterious illness. Suddenly she learns that she herself is the target - the intended victim in a terrifying, deadly plot. #BlackCandle #ChristineRandell #GothicRomance #BookReview #AtmosphericRead #EmotionalJourney #Bookworm #InstaReads #BookLover #MustRead #BookRecommendation

When she finally goes outside to see the damage, there is a parked car in her driveway with a dead woman inside. Who is the woman? Did the fire kill her? Why is she in Alison’s driveway? Alison is determined to find out the truth. This was a slow burn read but it was filled with suspense so it kept my interest. I was just as obsessed as Alison was to find out the truth about the woman in the car. The book was very descriptive in regards to the aftermath of the fire but it didn’t take away from the plot. As Alison investigates, we also learn about her past through flashbacks, which at times were pretty dark. Overall, it was an interesting read set in Australia. ✂️ REVIEW ✂️ “I wish people were more like books. If you realize halfway through a novel that you aren’t enjoying it anymore, you can just stop and find something new to read…But with people, you tend to have to see it through to the end, and sadly not everyone gets to live happily ever after.” Adam, a workaholic writer with face blindness, and his wife Amelia, brave a snowstorm to stay the weekend at a converted chapel in the Scottish Highlands as a last ditch effort to save their marriage. Strange events begin to occur and they have no means of escape. They begin to realize that someone has led them here for a reason. This twisty domestic thriller was so chilling and atmospheric. The suspense really kept me turning the pages. I just had to figure out why the characters were in this crazy situation. I feel like I should have seen the big twist coming but I definitely did not! The writing was just superb. I definitely recommend this one for fans of domestic suspense! Rating 4.5⭐️ 💬 January is finally coming to an end soon! 🗝️ BOOK REVIEW 🗝️ The Housemaid by Freida McFadden 💘 January’s selection for @lovestruckthrillsbookclub. Looking forward to discussing this one with the group! 💬 Favorite Quote: “I can’t seem to shake that uneasy feeling. That I should get out of here while I still can.” Review 📖: Millie finds work as a live-in maid with the Winchester family, where there are secrets aplenty. Despite this being slightly slow from the jump, it does pick up and read quickly. I liked the writing style and how the information was presented. While it was a tad predictable (I guessed the twist about 40% in) it didn’t stop me from wanting to read and see it all play out and I wasn’t disappointed. I was left with some questions but overall it was a solid read. I’ll be reading the next one! QOTD - ❔Happy Tuesday! 🤍Book Review 🤍 The Heiress A Novel by Rachel Hawkins Rachel Hawkins delivers a gripping and atmospheric thriller in “The Heiress.” From the very first page, I was drawn into the complex world of Ruby McTavish and her wealthy, notorious family. The story follows Camden, Ruby’s adopted son, who has distanced himself from his inheritance and the McTavish name. However, circumstances bring him and his wife, Jules, back to Ashby House, where they confront the dark secrets and mysteries surrounding Ruby’s life. Hawkins masterfully crafts a narrative that keeps readers guessing until the very end. The twists and turns are unexpected, and the pacing is relentless, making it difficult to put the book down. The setting, with its Blue Ridge mountains and the grandeur of Ashby House, adds a palpable sense of atmosphere and adds depth to the story. The characters are richly developed, and the dynamic between Camden and Jules is compelling. They are very unreliable characters but somehow everything works together in one way or another. Jules, in particular, shines as a determined and resourceful protagonist. As the layers of Ruby’s past are peeled away, the true extent of her plans and the McTavish family’s secrets are revealed. “The Heiress” is a thrilling and captivating novel that explores the lengths to which families will go to protect their legacies. Fans of mysteries and psychological thrillers will find themselves fully immersed in this gripping tale. Very grateful to the publisher for this review copy, opinions are my own . 💬Do you come from a big family and has anyone in the family had a big secret revealed? #TheHeiress #RachelHawkins #BookReview #ThrillerNovel #AtmosphericRead #BookRecommendation #MysteryThriller

💜 BOOK REVIEW 🧡 Empire of Storms / Tower of Dawn by Sarah J Maas (Throne of Glass, books 5 & 6) 📝 I read these together as a tandem read Review 📖: 💜Empire of Storms💜 Emotionally devastated after this one. Just dang. The scheming and planning was top tier. Aelin is just a mastermind, moving all the pieces and being the baddie we all know she is. I still adore Rowan but he now has to share my heart with Manon because ya girl is in love. The growth, for SO many characters. I love them all and seeing them level up ... my heart. It melts. That frickity frackity ending. GOOD GRAVY!!!!! It gutted me, left me weak on the sandy beach. I’m still there. 🧡Tower of Dawn🧡 First, I’m SO glad I tandem read this, because the emotional investment wouldn’t have been there otherwise. I would have known the outcome and frankly been upset at getting no resolution from the ending of EoS. Second, I enjoyed this one. I liked getting to see a new location and meet new people!! Chaol and Nesryn deserved for their stories to be told, and even though it was a slower paced book, the amount of things we learn in this makes it a necessary read. I liked Yrene and was surprised how much I liked learning all thing healers. I had SO many messages telling me this was awful and that it could be skipped and it was the least favorite in the series. I don’t know, getting a wider view of the world Mass built was fun and I can’t imagine skipping it. QOTD - ❔Happy Monday! If you’ve seen my stories you know there’s a huge winter storm heading my way 🥶 ❄️ What’s the weather like where you live? What is your favorite weather? 👀❔

✂️ BOOK REVIEW ✂️ Mothered by Zoje Stage 💬 Favorite Quote: “It’s so easy to make offers when there’s nothing to give.” Review 📖: Honestly, even days later, I’m still unsure how I feel about this one. One of the most unreliable narrators I’ve ever read, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I don’t think I ever really knew what was real or what was madness and wasn’t something that I felt got resolved. There was a lot of blended information that had memories and dreams of memories, only it took a minute to realize Grace was spiraling. I am still not sure reading about the pandemic is for me. However, I recognize how hard this must have been to write when the author lost her mother during the pandemic. I just really have no idea how to explain what I read. I’m not sure I’d recommend it, but I would recommend another work by this author, Baby Teeth, that book is wild!! QOTD - ❔Happy Friday! Someone shared this quote with me today and I’m passing it on to all of you! “Sometimes I wish I could go back in life, not to change anything, just to feel some things twice.” Let’s discuss! Thoughts? 💭 🤔 ❔

📚 Book Review Post 📚 • • • What I Liked: -This was a perfect winter read. It had an isolated setting during the middle of a snow storm, which is perfect for winter months. -If you're a fan of books with unreliable narrators, then this book is absolutely perfect. The entire book, I had no idea which way was up, because I didn't know who exactly I could trust. -While I did enjoy the twist, I kind of saw it coming in a way (I had a feeling, but I didn't figure it all out), and I wasn't the biggest fan of the twist (more on that in a moment). • • • What I Didn't Like: -Like I said, I did enjoy the twist, but I also wasn't the biggest fan of it. In a way, I felt betrayed by it (iykyk). It made me doubt everything I had read so far in a way that took me out of the book. It wasn't a twist as much as a betrayal to the reader. • • • Overall, I give this book 🍷🍷🍷 • • • #bookreview #rockpaperscissors #alicefeeney #thriller #atmosphericread #readersofinstagram #avidreader #readallthebooks #bookstagram

💜 REVIEW 💜 “We’ve entered some dark game I don’t understand. Our secret is a wound, a vulnerability. We’re bleeding in the water, and there’s a predator circling, so cunning I never saw it coming.” Wow. This novel is so atmospheric and beautifully written! The story had me captivated from the start with so many elements - the collective fear of the people in the small religious town that really sets the ominous tone. The relationship between the preacher’s daughter and the town outcast. The legend of an evil figure lurking in the swamp. The blind faith in the church pastor. I loved how it all connected as the mystery slowly burned until the thrilling end. I will be thinking about this one for a long time! Speaking of things I don’t usually read… . I have never been into horror anything. Small Favors is a YA horror fantasy supernatural thing. And I loved it? I mean, I don’t really want to read it again, and I’m not looking for more books like it, but it was a completely gripping read. I read it in two days. Definite spooky vibes and things I tried not to think too hard about, but it was chilling and atmospheric and kept me guessing with all the little hints and BAD THINGS JUST KEPT HAPPENING. The characters were very compelling (Ellerie's relationship with her twin was utterly heartbreaking), and the romance was slow burn and sweet (but also kept making me go 👀 for…reasons). So if you like horror and also YA fantasy, this is definitely something to check out. . Are you into horror? As a first-time writer, knowing my storytelling and characters gripped someone ignites my passion all over again. 😍 Pouring my all into crafting an atmospheric setting and high-stakes drama seems so worthwhile. And I’m absolutely thrilled to hear this reviewer eagerly anticipating MORE in the next book! Rest assured, I’ll deliver on plot twists and emotional angles! 📝 Mystery lover, wherever you are, thanks again for pushing me toward polishing future stories with your thoughtful feedback! #BookReviews #Goodreads #AmazonReviews #5StarRead #BookLove #YAThriller #YAReads #Bookworm #PageTurner #CantPutItDown #StayedUpAllNightReading #ReadingMotivation #GrippingRead #AtmosphericRead #DebutAuthor #DebutNovel #UpAndComingAuthor #NewRelease #Bookstagram #Booknerd #Bibliophile #BookLover #WhatToReadNext #BookRecommendation #MustReadList #GoodRead #SupportIndieAuthors #IndieAuthorCommunity

THE SANATORIUM, by Sarah Pearse ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Half hidden by forest and overshadowed by threatening peaks, Le Sommet has always been a sinister place. Long plagued by troubling rumors, the former abandoned sanatorium in the Swiss Alps has since been renovated into a five-star minimalist hotel. But it's the last place Elin Warner wants to be. She has taken time off from her job as a detective, so when her estranged brother, Isaac, and his fiancée, Laure, invite her to celebrate their engagement at the hotel, Elin really has no reason not to accept. But she immediately feels on edge... and when Laure is missing, she must trust her instincts if she wants to find her. I enjoyed reading The Sanatorium, I think it has a good story and a nice fast pace that makes you not want to put down the book until you've finished it. But unfortunately... it was not great. My favorite thing about this book was its atmosphere: dark, gothic and a bit spooky even. Creepy sanatoriums are always so much fun (in fiction only) because their disturbing nature grant so much space to creativity and for weird things to happen and evolve! And while I loved following the investigation of Detective Warner and discovering new dead people inside this fancy new hotel, this book failed to make me care about the characters, especially the main one! Something we immediately discover is that Elin Warner suffers from PTSD from a recent case she worked on, but she is so cold and detached that I really struggled to bond with her character; her feelings and mental state felt a bit... fake, and therefore unbelievable. The ending made sense, but it was underwhelming and weak if you think about everything that happened before that point. Still, I am aware I am over-critical when it comes to thrillers so I'm sure lots of people will love this more than I did. I will anyway read the second book in this series at some point! ❄️ #michelareviews #thesanatorium #reecesbookclub #reecewitherspoonbookclub #murdermystery #mysterythriller #mysteryseries #bookstagram #coldread #winterread #bookreview #fourstarbook #bookrec #bookone #bookseries #bookstagram #atmosphericread #theretreat #booksbooksbooks #reading #read

There Should Have Been Eight by Nalini Singh Thank you to @berkleypub for the #gifted copy and letting me be part of the tour for this book. This is an atmospheric read set in a gothic mansion with the locked in mystery trope. A group of old friends come to together for a reunion. There are secrets from the past and in the present strange things start to happen. It was suspenseful but for me it was a very slow burn. At the beginning there was a little too much descriptions of the setting and development of the characters. The pace did pick up towards the end and it was filled with action and twists. What I did enjoy was that all the characters were untrustworthy and suspects, and I wasn’t expecting the ending. If you enjoy atmospheric thrillers, then I suggest giving this one a try! This book was quite the atmospheric adventure! I genuinely applaud Orlando’s ability to make this one so surprisingly clever and original, it’s truly unlike anything I’ve ever read before. It was certainly poignant and I loved the dark humour! It’s full of quirky characters and ghosts referred to as pranksters. It’s dives deeper than typical books about haunted houses and explores some tough topics of domestic abuse, alcoholism and more. It was a fun read for #SpookySeason that I’m glad I picked up, but ultimately didn’t live up to my expectations. This is certainly an unpopular opinion from everything else I’ve seen so please don’t let this stop you from reading this eccentric debut! 💭What book was your last #BookstagramMadeMeDoIt ? ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 💫 Goodreads - 3.99 Genre - Horror #TheSeptemberHouse #CarissaOrlando #BerkleyPub #PRHAudio #Audiobook #Gothic #GothicThriller #GothicSuspense #GothicHorror #AtmosphericRead #AtmosphericThriller #Horror #HorrorBook #HorrorThriller #Paranormal #ParanormalRead #ThrillingRead #ThrillerBookAddict #ThrilledByThrillers #ThrillerBookBabe #BookedUpBabe #BookishCanadian #BookBabe #LitChick #CanadianBookstagram #PlantsAndBooks #BooksAndPlants

🌊 BOOK TOUR REVIEW🌊 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A massive thank you to @instabooktours @harpercollinsuk and @cjcooke_author for my copy of this book in exchange for an honest review! CJ Cooke has quickly become an auto buy author for me. Last month, #ahauntinginthearctic was easily my favourite read. Let me tell you why.... The gothic atmosphere the author creates is impeccable. Cooke has the ability to make you feel like you're inside her story, which in this book took place in Iceland! I felt all the emotions throughout this book, but the consistent feeling was suspense. What I also love about the authors work is the folk-lore aspects. Not only is it informative, but it also adds to the fun. It meshes in so well! The characters in this book were really well developed, and my heart broke many times for Nicky. Also, don't get me started on the ending 🤯 QOTD - Who is an autobuy author for you? Weyward is an atmospheric story spanning three timelines from the 1600s to 2019 about a family of powerful women. Kate flees an abusive relationship in London, and heads to Weyward Cottage, a remote residence she’s inherited from her great-aunt she barely remembers. The cottage is a much different environment than Kate is used to, and as she explores, she suspects her aunt kept a big secret during her life. ⁣ ⁣ In the early 1940s, Violet is trapped by the societal conventions of women, despite wanting to learn and spend more time outside. When she finds herself in an unexpected and socially frowned upon situation, she is banished by her distant father to a remote cottage as punishment. ⁣ ⁣ In 1619, Altha is on trial as a murder suspect. Her mother taught her magic, though it hasn’t always worked out as planned and many in the town are wary of Altha, her family, and their ways. ⁣ ⁣ The lives of these women are intertwined as they each face challenges, often by men who think they know what’s best for women — Sound familiar? I enjoyed the descriptiveness in Weyward and was curious to see how the stories would come together. This is a great fall read — ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⁣ ⁣ #Weyward #EmiliaHart #historicalFiction #MagicalRealism #AtmosphericRead #BOTM #2033releases #bookreview #readersofinstagram

BOOK REVIEW The New Wife | JP Delaney SYNOPSIS: When Finn Hensen gets a call from his sister Jess to say their father has died, neither is heartbroken. Their parents divorced many years ago, after which their father, Jimmy, continued to live a bohemian lifestyle in sun-soaked Mallorca, while his family returned to the UK. Ownership of his home, a beautiful but dilapidated farmhouse in the mountains, now passes to Finn and his sister. The only problem is that Jimmy recently remarried for the third time, and his new wife, Ruensa, is still living there. The pair agree that Finn should go to Mallorca and tactfully take possession of their inheritance. When he arrives, however, Finn is surprised to find that Finca Siquia has been completely transformed into a chic Mediterranean bolthole by Ruensa - along with her twenty-seven-year-old daughter, Roze. The Spanish police, meanwhile, are asking awkward questions about Jimmy's death . . . Are Ruensa and Roze the helpless victims of circumstance? Or will they stop at nothing to get Finca Siquia for themselves? MY OPINION: I have loved all of JP Delaneys books and was thrilled to be granted a copy of "The New Wife" via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review so it makes me sad to report I found this one a slow and painful read. If you are a fan of Sabine Durant’s Lie With Me or Lucy Clarkes One of the Girls because of the atmospheric prose bringing the location alive you will likely enjoy this and forgive the feeling of - "will something just happen already" and enjoy the drawn out mystery, For me however I put this book down a number of times before finally getting back to it and soldiering through. By the time the twist has revealed itself and the drama unfolds I had nearly DNFéd it several times so it wasn’t enough to redeem itself, although the final cat and mouse was quite fun I can really only give this a 2/5. #psychologicalthriller #thriller #thrillerboook #book #bookish #booktok #read #reading #bookblog #bookstagram #booklover #booknerd #bookaddict #whattoread #review #bookreview #lovebooks #bookshelf #thenewwife #lovetoread #atmosphericread

[ 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪 ] Annaleigh lives a sheltered life at Highmoor, a manor by the sea, with her sisters, their father, and stepmother. Once they were twelve, but loneliness fills the grand halls now that four of the girls’ lives have been cut short. Each death was more tragic than the last—and there are whispers throughout the surrounding villages that the family is cursed by the gods. Disturbed by a series of ghostly visions, Annaleigh becomes increasingly suspicious that the deaths were no accidents. 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: This a fairytale retelling of the Twelve Dancing Princesses by the Brothers Grimm (which I have not heard of before..so I wasn’t sure what to expect). I enjoyed the concept of the story and the dark/eerie atmosphere of the Manor by the sea mixed with the extravagant balls, gowns and dancing. 🩰 The pacing of the book dropped near the middle and I found it extremely slow and at some parts confusing. The romance was okay, but nothing to swoon over.. Probably could have done without. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫: ✔ A dark and haunting Manor ✔ Gods - mythologoy ✔ Secret balls and dancing ✔ Illusions, and unreliable characters ✔ Vivid dreams My Rating: 3✩ Goodreads: 3.92 Genre: YA Mystery/Horror What was your last 5 star spooky read?

When I’m Dead - Hannah Morrissey
Pub Date: Oct. 31, 2023 ***** QoTD: What is your current read? ***** When one of Chloe’s, their daughter’s, classmates is murdered, police detective Alex and medical examiner Rowan are called to the grisly scene. When they return home, they realize that Chloe is missing. As the investigation unfolds, they learn that Chloe had been the victim of social media shaming by the deceased; could Chloe be involved in the crime.? Meanwhile, a secret from Rowan’s past haunts her into thinking it may be karma. The third in the Black Harbor series; each book has independent characters, so this works as a standalone. Morrissey paints a bleak picture of Black Harbor, a town that most people want to leave. The approach of Halloween, a haunted house and falling leaves from the giant red sugar maple add to the atmosphere. Told from different POVs, there are twists and turns in this macabre story. There are quite a few red herrings here and although I identified the culprit as soon as (s)he was introduced, the twist at the end was unexpected. There are a few sub themes here that ignite third rail emotions. Some police procedures were questionable, but that didn’t take away from the overall story. 𝔹𝕚𝕥𝕥𝕖𝕣𝕥𝕙𝕠𝕣𝕟 . . . . . #katdunn #bitterthorn #sapphicfairytale #lgbtbook #ilovereading #readingbooks #letsread #bookoftheday #fairytale #gothictale #atmosphericread #booknerd #czbookstagram

🏝️Every Vow You Break by Peter Swanson💍 🌟3.75/5 📖Abigail never thought she’d fall in love with a millionaire, but here she is marrying Bruce Lamb. She has a regrettable one night stand on her honeymoon and tries to put it behind her. That is until the mysterious man she slept with keeps appearing everywhere… including on her honeymoon, on a remote island resort. 💭This was my first Peter Swanson read and I found it to be super fast-paced and easy to get through. I constantly found myself wanting to know what was going to happen next. However, I wasn’t attached to the MC, Abigail. I didn’t particularly like her, so I wasn’t always invested in what happened to her. I figured some of the plot twists early on, but it didn’t take away from the storytelling (although I would’ve preferred it to have been less predictable for me). I liked it enough, but I wouldn’t say this story will stick with me for a long time. 🧡Recommend if you like… -fast-pacing -suspense -short chapters ❔which Peter Swanson novel should I pick up next?

I read this a few months ago and I can't stop thinking about it. 📖 These Silent Woods by Kimi Cunningham Grant ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 It's so rare a book like this actually makes me cry. Usually I'll cry from a romance but this made me sob. I cried even talking about the plot to my husband. And then cried telling my sister about it weeks later. I absolutely loved this. So our MC Cooper and his young Daughter, Finch live completely off the grid. Secluded from the outside world, they have created a VERY quiet life for themselves. One day something threatens to expose them. But then we ask the question, why is it so important they stay hidden? This book was beautifully written. I felt like I was in the cabin with them. As a parent especially it pulled at my heartstrings. I want everyone I know to read this because I think it was absolutely brilliant and beautiful. #booksta #bookstagram #bookreview #thesesilentwoods #novel #booksthatmakeyoucry #atmosphericread #booklover #bookworm #booknerd #readmorebooks #booksbooksbooks #tbr #fivestarread

Have you met Arrietty? Thank you to @randomthingstours for my place on the #blogtour Arrietty is told over two timelines; the present, and two years ago – as soon as I realised this I was intrigued at how the story would pan out as it felt an unusual gap, I couldn’t quite work out how the pieces would fit together, and how things happening now could be the case -but, it all works out in the end! This starts as a slow-burn, the tension builds gradually, and the suspense mounts. I always like to get to the action, and this made me want to get there even more. Arrietty’s family seemed very bizarre; where is her mother, what is her father hiding, and who are the people whose names Arrietty keeps hearing mentioned? This is done in a clever way to make us think of different scenarios; the possibilities of what could have happened, and what it looks like. It’s full of mystery and gave me a real sense of unease. In the present time you can’t help but feel things are going to turn out very badly indeed! This has a very eerie and claustrophobic setting, and it often felt spooky, creepy, and frightening. At others it was fast-paced and I wanted to be looking over my shoulder. Arrietty as a character was created in such a way that I felt a need to protect her, and look out for her. I felt quite uncomfortable, and worried about Arrietty and the way I feared for her and for her little brother and their wellbeing intensifies as the story progresses. I did very much enjoy the ending which I felt answered my questions, and settled my mind. I had a feeling when I was reading this of a book it made me think of, only to realise when I had finished reading that it was a book by the same author. I like her way of creating characters, and a creepy atmosphere. I also very much enjoy it when you can close a book and feel a sense of completeness and satisfaction at how the story ends. #arrietty #abbydavies #randomthingstours #rutherfordreads #thriller #mystery #atmosphericread #thrillerlover #bookreview #thrillerbook

📚⭐️ Review ⭐️📚 The Book of Lucas by Dana Wind Lorelle My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Swipe for synopsis ➡️ A literary mystery that features academia, a local town's dark history, and a tragic, unsolved disappearance? Sign me up! This is my sweet spot to a T. Although the premise immediately grabbed my attention, I quickly realized that this was an overly complicated story. There was just so much going on. Multiple plots within the plot, and to me, it came off as too problematic. It didn't help that the story constantly weaves between three different time periods, and those transitions could be quite muddy in general. I did find myself confused. . .often. Between the never-ending Keats references, the dissection and anatomy of English Romantics poetry, and a lead character who is nothing short of a miserable presence, you would think I didn't enjoy the book. Wrong. While I feel it's necessary to share what I found bothersome, it does not encompass the entirety of my experience. I did find this book to be interesting. I thought the use of Berger's diary was a fabulous conduit to shed light on his sad life, as well as the shadows that hung over his small provencal town. The history was rich, and I was captivated by the lore and legends of the Roma. Atmospheric and vivid. I could almost hear, smell, and feel the sheep in the rustic countryside. This was done really well. Final thoughts? I thought the book was compelling. Yes, it had its qualms. Yes, it was messy. ❓What’s something that you’re looking forward to in July, bookish or otherwise? 🎉Happy Publication Day!🎉 From that first atmospheric chapter with the morbid newspaper clippings and the mention of ritual sacrifice, I knew that this book was going to be hard to put down. Veronica Lando’s second novel The Drowning Girls is dark, dangerous and incredibly deceptive. Nate Bass has arrived to take up the position of Port Flinders’ only teacher. Due to some tawdry event in his recent teaching history, he seems to have no choice but to be posted to this out of the way town. Staying in the Barra Sun caravan park, which is a bit of a dump, he meets one of the staff, Irena, who came to the town the previous year for The Drowning Girl festival and never left. The festival is based on a local fishing myth, “Sacrifice a girl to the sea and the fishing will be prosperous, don’t and the whole town will dry up.” Twenty five years ago a girl disappeared, presumed drowned and there have been plenty of other deaths in the water over the years, coinciding with the festival. As Nate begins to dig, he finds his thoughts fixated on drowning girls and the secrets this town is hiding. Twisty, thrilling and jaw-dropping, Veronica lulled me into thinking I knew what was happening and then ripped the rug right out from under me. The whole story was so cleverly done that I did not pick what was happening at all. Brava Veronica on writing this tantalising and surprisingly claustrophobic Aussie thriller. It deserves all the stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thanks to my #buddyreaders for discussing theories and thoughts while reading this one @lauras_book_club @taurusbooklover and @bianca_mal_ A big thank you also to @harpercollinsaustralia and @veronicalandoauthor for the #gifted copy of The Drowning Girls. #thedrowninggirls #veronicalando #crimethrillers #crimefiction #atmosphericread #australianauthor #australianfiction #happypublicationday #bookbirthday #aussieauthorsupporter #aussiefictionsupporter #favouriteauthor #favouritegenre #fictionaddiction #avidreader #humpday #bookcommunity #booksiread #booklover #bookstagram

(Book Review): 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 "An unforgettably chilling read! ❄️📚 “Piñata” is a recent horror book that had me turning the pages late into the night. The chilling atmosphere, expertly crafted suspense, and the author's mastery of tension created an unforgettable reading experience. 5/5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟: "Piñata" by Leopoldo Gout is a captivating and atmospheric horror novel that delves into the dark secrets of an ancient abbey. As Carmen Sanchez and her family become entangled in the chilling events, Gout weaves a tale infused with Mesoamerican folklore and themes of colonialism and misogyny. With intense imagery and a palpable sense of fear, "Piñata" is a must-read and I’m glad I found it! Note: I mix-read the audio and print versions! This slow burn mystery was incredibly atmospheric and I relished in the adventure of such a vivid and intriguing setting! Told from two different timelines, I really enjoyed how McKenzie also sprinkled in some journal entries and Instagram posts throughout! I always find the additions of different mediums fascinating and it definitely enabled me to fly through it! This one featured some complicatedly complex characters and while I wouldn’t say this was my favourite from McKenzie, it was certainly clever and captivating! 💭Have you been to any National Parks? 🍹 A L C • R E V I E W 🍹 • Title: The Last Drop Of Hemlock Author: Katharine Schellman Rating: 4/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ • I was super excited to be able to jump right into this one after finishing the first in the series. This one grabbed my attention right from the start with yet another murder, and to think - a poison ring none the less… • I love the atmosphere that has been created in this series revolving around the 1920’s during the age of prohibition and speakeasies. We follow once again Vivian as she works with her friend Bea, Leo, Honor and Danny to try to figure out who was behind the murders. I really enjoyed the character building in this one, how each character has grown. I felt that the pacing was a bit slow in the middle, but it felt to flow much better to me than the first in the series (which don’t get me wrong it was slow but I still very much enjoyed). I think Schellman did a great job at bringing the story full circle in the end, tying everything up nicely with the murders. Not only was the ending great but something happens, leaving a bit of a cliff hanging leaving me to believe that there will be a third in the series, with another mystery to solve, which I will definitely be looking forward to. • I felt that the narration was great. Sara Young narrates as she did the first and I felt her narration to be much better in this one. • If you are a fan of atmospheric historical fiction mysteries (specifically the 1920’s) with a touch of romance thrown in, then I recommend this series. I really enjoyed this second installment to the series! This one just released on June 6! • Thank you to @netgalley, @dreamscape_media and @katharinewrites for the ALC in exchange for my honest review! • What is your favorite time period to read about? • #netgalley #netgalleyalc #alc #advancedlistenerscopy #myster #atmosphericread #1920sjazzera #prohibition #gangsters #mob #copsturningtheotherway #thenightinggale #speakeasy #audiobook #booktwointheseries #dreamscapemedia #thelastdropofhemlock #katharineschellman

• eBook Review • A Study in Drowning, Ava Reid (out 09/13) [Thank you @netgalley for the e-arc] Last year I read The Wolf & the Woodsman and really enjoyed the lore... but not much past that. I liked the authors writing, and wanted to give her a second chance. Then this book popped up on @netgalley and I (thankfully!) got accepted to review it. In short: I'm glad I gave this author a second chance. Once again, the lore was my favorite part of this book. The atmosphere was pretty top notch too, I love the moody weather and the house atop a crumbling cliff. It gives me Series of Unfortunate Events vibes! The story did drag in a few places, but overall it was an engaging read and I found myself surprised a few times throughout. It's a good standalone fantasy, and worth the read. 🍁Initially drawn to the enticing cover and title of Echo Lake, I am also a sucker for any type of Aussie crime novel. So when some #bookbuddies suggested a #buddyread I was in. ➡️ Swipe for synopsis and another photo 🍁From the very beginning, I was drawn to Rose and her research skills. Joan has cleverly chosen a vocation for her protagonist which gave her the expertise to believably investigate a crime. I also enjoyed that Rose was a new arrival to the Highlands, so that the reader was experiencing the setting and the community through a fresh lens. This outsider perspective added to the ghostly vibes that pervaded the story and added another level of mystery and intrigue. 🍁The references to real life serial killer, Ivan Milat, having killed in this area, also invoked a level of fear and creepiness and the feeling that everyone Rose met could be a suspect. 🍁One of my favourite relationships to read about is the sisterly bond and the attention to detail and level of familiarity that Joan has portrayed on the page with the relationship between Rose and her sister Kim is phenomenal. Their banter and easy jibes at one another made for some light relief amongst the sinister events. 🍁Although marketed as a thriller, to me this book had more of a modern cosy vibe with a touch of ghost story. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, characters and setting and recommend it to all mystery lovers. I’m also hoping to see Rose return for future novels from Joan. 🍁Thank you @allenandunwin and @joan_sauers for the #gifted copy of Echo Lake. 🍁Also, thanks to my #buddyreaders @Lilyraiti @lindabalogh5077 @indoor.g1rl @mamas.high.on.books @bookish_tk @bianca_mal_ for another great read. 🌊 A R C • R E V I E W 🌊 • Title: The Only Survivors Author: Megan Miranda Rating: 3.5/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (Rounded up to 4 Stars on GoodReads/NetGalley) • I think this is only my second Megan Miranda book, my other one being All The Missing Girls - weird right? I have a bunch of her books; I just need to read them. I feel like she's a reliable popcorn thriller/mystery author. But one thing I will say - the covers of all her books though - just incredible. • The Only Survivors is told in a dual timeline of past and present but also while in the past in reverse chronological order (the past starts at hour 8 and works its way to the accident). This one is definitely a slow burn, but there is drama galore and some really unlikeable characters to entertain you along the way. I was immediately hooked, found myself to get a bit distracted in the middle, and was once again hooked at the end. It's most definitely a bingeable read. • Miranda is great at creating such an atmospheric read, the setting was perfection. I remember that from her first novel and it still reigns true with this one. This story kept my attention enough, had me questioning everyone and I liked the reveals and where they were placed throughout the story. I really enjoyed how this one was wrapped up; it didn't feel like that average run of the mill ending.  • Overall, this is an easy bingeable read that I would recommend to all popcorn thriller fans. The Only Survivors came out on April 11 of this year - be sure to check it out! Huge thank you to @netgalley and @scribnerbooks for the eARC in exchange for my honest review. • Do you still get together with friends from highschool? I still talk to a few people. Thank you to @bookclubgirl and @marinerbooks for the gifted copy. My friend @flowerchildreads and I both won copies. This book was my introduction to Kate Morton and I was not disappointed. This is an alternating timeline story between South Australia in 1959 and London in 2018. This story starts with secrets and they just keep building. In 1959’s Australia, a mother and her three children are found dead. What at first seems to be foul play quickly becomes the realization that the mother not only took her own life but also the lives of her three children. Why would a mother do this? In 2018, Jess receives the call she has dreaded for years, her grandmother, Nora, is not well and she must come home. It is this trip home that will begin the unraveling of secrets. As Jess is confronted with conflicting information, she starts doing what she does best, research. This time the research will take Jess in a direction she never expected and shake the very story her life was built on. At what point do the lies told for years and years become the truth one desperately wants to believe? Can the damage done ever be undone? This book hooked me from the very first page. Morton skillfully switched between the two timelines painting a picture of what people thought happened, and what actually happened. This is done so well that just when the reader thinks they know where the story is going, it changes revealing yet another layer. In addition to the characters, the setting became its own character as well. I felt like I was present in Australia watching this story unfold. I have never read a book that takes me to the setting quite like this one did. At the end of the story, I found myself very sad to close the book. I could not believe I had reached the end. It has been a very long time since I have felt that way at the end of a book. I cannot wait to go back and read Morton’s entire backlist. To be reminded of why I love to read was an unexpected treat with this book. I highly recommend Homecoming for readers who love mystery, secrets, stunning descriptions and long stories that make you lose track of time. What is the last book that made you feel any of this?

📚 BOOK REVIEW 📚 Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy Charlotte McConaghy quickly became an encore writer after reading Once There Were Wolves. I absolutely loved that book and knew I had to get into another of hers as soon as possible. This book had a lot of the things I loved from OTWW such as the atmospheric quality and the connection to the preservation of nature. This story takes place in the near future, when many animals are endanger of extinction. The main character, Franny, has always been a wanderer and adventurer, but she is now leaving everything behind with a very specific journey in mind. She has talked her way onto a fishing boat from Greenland with the goal of following Artic terns on their long migratory path to Antarctica. Throughout Franny's time on the ship, we get flash backs to Franny's past that explain just how she got to this dramatic goal in the first place. These switches in timeline I found to be difficult on audio, which is the way I started this read. I ended up switching to the book in hand and was much happier, therefore that is my first recommendation; read this in print. When you do, I think you will feel that this story of Franny is quite the migration itself. It may get a little confusing at times, at least it did for me. But the ending ties it all together and really WOW'd me as a reader. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️4/5 #Migrations #CharlotteMcConaghy #atmosphericread #bookstoread #readersgonnaread #bookreviews #booksiread #bookstagrammer #jenrushingreads

✨ Book Review ✨ 📕 The Luminaries
✍️ Susan Dennard Genre: YA sci-fi fantasy Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4 stars) 🌕 Review: The Luminaries is book 1 in a YA sci-fi fantasy trilogy. Book 2, The Hunting Moon, comes out 11/7/23. ❤️ What I loved: Dark and fun world building. Atmospheric. Pre-2010 vibes that gives the story a nostalgic quality. A cast of lovable characters. MC Winnie must complete 3 trials in a dangerous forest filled with mythical creatures to become a hunter. The way this is described and structured, I knew immediately that Dennard was a gamer. Winnie is a relatable well-developed MC. She carries the weight of what her father did on her shoulders and feels it is her responsibility to redeem her family’s integrity in Luminary society. Her emotions come through keenly on every page. A sweet childhood friends to lovers slow burn. Jay is your next book bf! The last half of the book is where Dennard shines!!! It had me on the edge of my seat, totally hooked and I stayed up all night reading!!! ❌ Some issues I had: I struggled with the world building a little bit at the beginning of the book. It didn’t make sense to me that this society would remain a secret in a modern-day world. Some members do have access to cell phones, the internet and can go out into the world. The book mentions that there are people responsible for policing this, but I wasn’t sold on it. I hope we get some more details in the next book. Winnie has anxious habits - clicking her teeth and adjusting her glasses constantly. These things make her come across as more human, but in the text, they were annoyingly repetitive. I was hoping for a little more communication between Winnie and Jay. At this point it feels like it’s on the younger side of YA romances, an innocent crush with some tension. Yes I know it’s only the first book lol. Can’t wait to see how it progresses! I felt that it ended just when it was getting really good! We are left with so many loose ends and cliffhangers. I was hoping for a couple more chapters. 🌟 Overall: I really loved this book!! If you’re looking for a fun and dark YA sci-fi trilogy to be obsessed over, this is it!! Extremely bingeable!!!

This was quite an intriguing and atmospheric debut! This one follows the always entertaining idea of a book within a book which I throughly enjoyed at times but I also didn’t quite love the actual story within the story that we got but it still ends up working out well as a whole. I enjoyed the peeling back of the curtains and the exploration of the struggles of being a writer and getting noticed in the published world. The pacing was a bit of a rollercoaster but I was constantly left curious and liked all the tension and dramatics of this gothicy locked room mystery. While it can be a bit out there at times and slightly unrealistic, it certainly still worked and made for a captivating and eerie psychological thriller! 💭What are some books on your March TBR? ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 💫 Goodreads - 3.91 Genre - Thriller #TheWritingRetreat #JuliaBartz #SimonAndSchusterCanada #Gothic #AtmosphericRead #LockedRoomMystery #PsychologicalThriller #Thriller #MysteryThriller #ThrilledByThrillers #ThrillerBookBabe #ARC #BookReview #BookedUp #BookedUpBabe #BookishCanadian #Bookfluencer #GirlsWhoRead #BookBabe #LitChick #CanadianBookstagram #PlantsAndBooks #BooksAndPlants

Thank you @bookclubfavorites @gallerybooks #bookclubfavoritesinsiders for this advance copy. At Sea by Emma Fedor is touted as a thriller, but I don’t think that’s the correct genre. There is an element of atmospheric suspense throughout but I wouldn’t consider it a thriller. A reader who reads a lot of thrillers is going to think this story is very slow. That being said, I did enjoy it. We learn at the very beginning that our main character, Cara, had a son who disappeared 5 years earlier, supposedly taken by his father. She is now married to someone else and struggles with the pain of losing her son. The book goes back and forth between now and then. Then being when Cara has just graduated from college and she’s spending the summer with her aunt and uncle on Martha’s Vineyard. She doesn’t know what she’s doing with her life. Her mom passed away, and she still misses her every day. She meets Brendan and falls for him quickly. He’s mysterious, handsome and funny and can breathe underwater. (Yes, there is a little bit of magical realism in this story that honestly I don’t understand the reason for). It seems the focus of this book is the missing boy but actually it’s a story about what it’s like to love someone with mental health issues. In my opinion, this part of the story is done very well. I’ve not dealt with this personally but I felt the emotional struggle that Cara felt and especially loved the emotionally charged ending. Overall, I enjoyed this one. Just don’t go into it expecting a thriller. At Sea by Emma Fedor releases on March 7. What’s your favorite kind of weather? Book Review: Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik It’s been snowing a lot through the night and this morning and I thought… well darn. That would’ve been an amazing photo for this book! Maybe once it stops snowing I’ll still go out and take photos of this book with the snow because this book is a chilly one! I had no idea what I was getting into when I started this book. I honestly didn’t realize it was a Fey book until I read the back after I had bought it. But I think Novik wrote this fairytale-esque book beautifully! It was extremely atmospheric with beautiful writing. Sometimes the writing could go over my head ‘cause I’m honestly not that smart, but I still enjoyed this masterpiece. It’s multiple POV and every single character had a very distinct voice, which was super COOL (if you get my drift lolol) and the story was just very intriguing. There was A LOT of intrigue which made the book exciting and I absolutely love how everything came together by the end. This is probably one of my top reads for the year and it’s only February! My favorite weather is when it’s stormy with gray puffy clouds in the sky and rain (love the rain)… I also love thunder storms. City Under One Roof by Iris Yamashita Cara Kennedy, a detective from Anchorage, is stranded in a small Alaskan town where all residents live in a single high-rise building. Cara is in town for her own personal reasons but ends up trying to solve a local murder. What I liked: The plot was interesting and kept me wanting to read more. The book was very atmospheric – a small town in Alaska that is isolated and can only be reached in the winter months by a tunnel, snowmobile or helicopter. It’s winter and the whole town is stranded due to an avalanche. It was also unique that the whole town resided in a single building. What I didn’t like: There were parts that were slow and there were a lot of characters. It took me a while to get everyone straight. The mystery was intriguing but the twists were just ok. Overall, this was a solid debut. I wouldn’t consider it a thriller, but more of a mystery. If you enjoy mysteries with a unique setting I would recommend. As Bryce and Hunt dig deep into Crescent City’s underbelly, they discover a dark power that threatens everything and everyone they hold dear, and they find, in each other, a blazing passion—one that could set them both free, if they’d only let it. 💡💭After reading the ACOTAR series, I knew I had to dive into another MAAS series. If I had to compare the two, I would say House of Blood and Earth is more high fantasy and the world-building is very complex. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝: ⚡️This is a very entertaining read, it doesn’t take long to get right into the action. From the murder mystery elements, magical creatures, slow burn- budding romance, to the secrets and twists that unravel - SJM did such a good job at keeping me on my toes! 💣The ENDING!! The last 200 pages literally had my heart racing, there was so much action and emotion packed into it - I was flipping pages so fast. 😮 ❤️‍🩹The underlying themes of grief and mental health were well done and made the emotional connection to the characters that much stronger. Maas did such a great job with Bryce and Hunt’s characters. 🥹🤭Loved Syrinx - Bryce’s pet chimera!! (iykyk) 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫: ✔ High fantasy x Urban Fantasy - real world elements ✔ Grumpy hero with a soft heart ✔ BADASS female MC ✔️Magical creatures and demons ✔️Slow burn romance ✔ A friendship like no other 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞: 800 pages is A LOT. In my opinion, the middle seemed a bit drawn out and I was hoping for more romance development. With that being said, I was still entertained enough to keep reading. My Rating: 4.5 ✩ Goodreads: 4.48✩ Have you read this one? Thoughts? Is the Second book one just as good? 👀

But the world is strange and endings are not truly endings no matter how the stars might wish it so. • • QOTD: How do you keep track of your reads? [🇮🇹 Come tenere traccia di ciò che leggete?] • • I use goodreads but I’d like to start writing reviews in journals because they are so beautiful! • • 🇮🇹 Io uso Goodreads ma mi piacerebbe anche iniziare a usare i quaderni apposta perché sono proprio carini 😍.

[ 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪 ] My last read of 2022 did not disappoint!! ✨This is a story of love, grief, and the complicated relationship between a mother and her daughters. Meredith and Nina Whitson are as different as sisters can be, and when their beloved father falls ill, Meredith and Nina find themselves together again, standing alongside their cold, disapproving mother, Anya, who even now, offers no comfort to her daughters. As children, the only connection between them was the Russian fairy tale Anya sometimes told the girls at night. Alternating between the past and present, Meredith and Nina will finally hear the singular, harrowing story of their mother's life, and what they learn is a secret so terrible and terrifying that it will shake the very foundation of their family and change who they believe they are. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝: 🙏🏼Character development was phenomenal. The first half of the book seemed pretty slow, but for good reason. There is a lot of character development that happens in the first half of the book and you really get to understand the Whitson family dynamics. 👏🏼👏🏼KH is the QUEEN of story-telling and never fails to bring out all of the emotions while reading one of her books. ✍🏼I liked the idea of a story within a story, and this is shown through Anya’s “fairytale” that she shares with her daughters. This fairytale holds so much meaning, and it was interesting to see how it changed the dynamic of the mother/daughters relationships. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫: ✔ complicated relationship between a mother and her daughters ✔ a Russian fairytale weaved into the chapters ✔ war, secrets and a haunting past ✔️winter atmosphere This one will definietly stay with me for a while. My Rating: 5 ✩ Goodreads: 4.24✩

Before the Coffee gets cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi, former theatrical director and producer 213 pages #fastandeasyread #vacationread #atmosphericread An atmospheric and easy in a good sense read - you'll find everything inside what this cover radiates. Not sure, was there a cat, though? But there were a lot of coffee, theatrical ambience and kind human stories inside. And if you get attached to the characters, there are 2 more books in that series to enjoy. I totally loved it, a great reminder how uncomplex the true happiness usually is. Reading a good book, for example. #bookdrilling #toshikazukawaguchibook #booklovers #bookstagram #books #booklover #book #bookworm #bookaddict #reading #bookish #bookstagrammer #booknerd #booksofinstagram #bibliophile #instabook #booklove #readersofinstagram #bookaholic #bookshelf #bookcommunity #bookblogger #instabooks #bookclub #bookreview #igreads #goodreads

📚 BOOK REVIEW 📚 Spells For Forgetting by Adrienne Young This is classified as fantasy, but it is not your typical fantasy read. The setting is an island named Saoirse off the coast of Seattle Washington. There is no world building, the island could easy be a real place. The writing is so atmospheric, it is easy to picture the island and it's community of people who have lived there for generations. There is a lot of magic, but it is subtule and mysterious. The mystery keeps you wanting more the whole time. I found myself up way past my bed time not wanting to stop reading and when I finally made myself stop all I could think was "I'm really loving this book." So I'd definitely recommend this one to just about anyone. Do you like stories with magic in them? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️5/5 #SpellsForForgetting Adrienne Young #fantasy #mystery #Atmosphericread #readthis #bookstoread #booksofinstagram #bookreview #bookwormreads #booksbooksbooks #booksforbookworms #bookstagrammer #jenrushingreads
