I was contemplating if this play fighting was gonna turn into a crying session…decided to let whatever this was run its course 😝 We got to experience #kente2024 and it was so moving! Today’s #scripture #affirmation was that “I belong to God.” While the girls and I didn’t talk about it in the morning, I made sure we talked about it in the evening. We talked about what I meant to belong to God on our part. That we represent and reflect Him to others. That our thoughts are Jair as important as our actions. Happy Monday! As I am waiting each day to see what my flowers and vegetables will produce this season, I notice that each day I check to see if they are ok. If they look a little sad, I try and give it food, or maybe a little more water. I troubleshoot to bring it back to a place it will perk up, so it looks happy again. Not sure if gardening and landscaping is your thing but every day, I give them love and attention. I see a parallel in our lives. We too are like our flowers. So why do we not troubleshoot for ourselves like we would our gardens? What do you need today? Are you too much in the shade and need some sun light? Make sure your environment around you is life giving. When was the last time you checked in on you? God made those flowers; don’t you think He sees so much more in you and wants to best for you? We allow different thoughts into our minds every day that affect our hearts. We allow different seeds to come through the doorway of our greenhouse every day. But it is up to us to pick and choose the right seeds we allow into our greenhouse to be planted into our hearts. Sometimes we pick the wrong seeds, and it is up to us to not fertilize those plants. They may decay and die and we must then remove them from our greenhouse. Our hearts may be in the right place, but some seeds don’t need to be planted in our hearts. You may be left with some decaying seeds that bother you and you need to move forward. Those seeds are bothering their greenhouse, so move on. I had to send my kids outside so I could write this post. They’re at that age where they’ve become strong humans, with willpower, assertive, taking up more than their size in space in the room - all the while slurping popsicles in my ear, doing kart wheels. “Neve, please, I have to do some work, I’m tired, I need to think.” “Mom, what kind of work do you need to do?” “I need to write a post for Mother’s Day for the business.” “Mom, why do you need to do that, you’re not the only mother now. Why can’t you just ask someone else to do it?” My mind spins back 10 years to the tiniest seeds of asparagus, sown in a garden of hope, waiting for them, the two kids I just sent outside so I could “think”. There is a bag overflowing in the fridge and the stalks in the patch need another go-around. This time of year I haphazardly tear them apart with my hands each morning to top the salad I make myself for lunch, thoughtlessly. But I’m thinking about them now, the feather light seeds they began from, sown by my hands, hoping. Hoping for harvest. Knowing it would take years, acknowledging that it would take years, but sowing them anyways. (Asparagus takes years to establish from seed; but the harvest, when it eventually comes, can last for decades.) Have I told them this? My kids. Eggs in waiting when I planted those. As they fork a tender butter dressed bite into their mouths, do they know? Do they know I was waiting for them, now long ago, when I planted these? I am not the only mother, Neve is right. I am mothered. I am witness to the vast kindness and dedication of so many other mothers, or mothers to be, or mothers in waiting, or chosen never to be mothers, and this business could not operate without them.
