I don’t want no slugs 🎶 I learned that holes in the center of leaves indicate #sluglife🐌 where as holes on the outside are the works of the caterpillar 🐛 These cucumbers were planted just before the Full Moon and they are already under attack! Look closely and you will see a ring of white powder around the base of the plant. This is called Diatomaceous Earth. If you sprinkle around the base of your plant, it will turn your slugs off and they will go no where near it. We gotta serve + protect our 🥒babies! July 8th Garden Update! How’s your garden growing? Today’s harvest, tomatoes & cucumbers in the making and the strawberry crowns I planted this spring are finally coming to life and sending out gorgeous runners! Brassica vegetables are still doing nothing. 😢 We had a little over 1.1” rain earlier this morning and everything looks perky. Snap peas are still producing thanks to the cool weather we had kind of late into June. July 4th Garlic Harvest! This garlic is the Music variety from @keenegarlic planted October 28, 2022, so a rather late planting. It is beautiful! June 17th Garden Update! Nice little harvest this morning. A few greens (baby romaine and arugula), kale (not pictured), snap peas❤️ and basil…can you say PESTO?🌱 Yum!! Pulled a test garlic to check the shoulders and practice curing. I’d say another 2-3 weeks but not the worst result! Way better than my first try in 2014! Talk about small bulbs! 🫤 First blossom on the green beans spotted! And my heirloom tomatoes are showing their typical cracks as they grow. The squirrel’s mystery plants are looking good in the front door planters and a couple strawberries are setting runners. All in all, progress! I did resort to applying some Bt to my broccoli, kale and Brussels sprouts… the cabbage moths are doing what they do. Rainy Day…FINALLY!!!☔️🌧️🥰 Sorry to all my weekend warriors who had big outdoor plans for today being ruined by the rain…at least yesterday was gorgeous weather for the Indy PRIDE parade and festivities! 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ And we really NEED this rain…not just because I have a 660 gallon (2,500 liter) capacity rainwater harvest tank to fill…the ground was cracking and we haven’t had a truly measurable, meaningful rainfall (> .1”) in 20 days! Here's my May 8th garden update in pics. How's your gardening coming along? I definitely have A LOT to learn about starting my own seedlings and hardening them off. My cruciferous plants are very unhappy with me...I probably rushed them, setting them out too early. We had an unfortunate cold snap not long after I put them out and although they are cool weather crops, I probably did them a disservice. My tomato seedlings are SOOOO leggy! I assume it's due to not having the grow lights close enough...and once again, my hardening off skills are lacking. But we'll see if they bounce back. If not, I can always fall back to purchasing a few plans...but in the zombie apocalypse, we might starve! My radish cotyledons are turning yellow, which from my research indicates a nutrient deficiency...I'm open to suggestions! The carrots I interplanted have been very slow to germinate but again, cold snap and I do see them coming, so I have that going for me. Now for the good news...my snap peas are doing great! I'm so excited! And my potatoes are doing really well. I already hilled them once and a couple could use some more soil! And my garlic...I can't say enough about Keene garlic! Their bulbs were so plump and gorgeous. First Harvest! Make a batch of compounded chive butter for the freezer. I did my first direct sow for root crops…potatoes, carrots and radishes. Because as the moon is waning is the best time to plant root crops according to gardening with the lunar cycle. I also planted some romaine, arugula and snap peas even though they are better planted as the moon is waxing…the rain didn’t cooperate earlier this week before the full moon energy kicked in. A gardeners gotta do what a gardeners gotta do. The garlic I planted last fall is looking good! I’m so ready for this growing season. I’m planning a lot of experimentation to test out different plants in different areas of my tiny garden. I know @intuitivecreatrix is on to the Full Moon Ritual prep but I need to share my seeds planted with intention during the New Month Ritual spellwork Angela facilitated last month. I planted cilantro with the intention of inviting prosperity…in herbal folklore cilantro and coriander are associated with prosperity so I went with it. This year I’ve planted all my seeds with intention and with the lunar cycles. I intend to work my vegetable & herb garden this way all year with succession plantings to take full advantage of the growing season. Gardening is just one aspect of Living My SoulScape. Connection with Mother Gaia is one piece of my #radicalauthenticity and aligning my energy to stay connected to my purposes.
