At the start of the summer term we asked some of our younger children who come to class on a Monday; if they could meet anyone or go anywhere (real or imaginary) who or where would they choose. The majority of the children chose to draw their answers and then over the term we have started to explore them. One of the children would love to visit San Francisco and drew an amazing image of the city from a birds eye view. When this child was asked what they'd like to do in San Francisco they said they'd eat ice cream on the pier. So we incorporated this into our dance classes by imaging that we are scooping different flavours of ice cream and adding different toppings. What ice cream flavour and topping would you choose? ❤️ Vrikshasana ( Tree Pose ) ❤️ Vrikshasana is also known as the Tree pose. Vriksh in Sanskrit means Tree. The posture resembles a strongly rooted tree and hence the name. When one does this asana, one's body look steady, balanced and graceful like a tree. The asana warms up the body and prepares it for more difficult poses. Contraindications: Those who suffer from high blood pressure should not raise their arms above the head for a long period of time. They can be held at the chest in the 'Anjali mudra' ( hands folded in prayer). It is best that you avoid practicing this pose if you suffer from insomnia or migraine. For some of us, beyond noticing the physical fatigue and strain, we notice our brains are also experiencing the fatigue and strain. We seem to be losing focus easily, we seem to have a lot of thoughts jumping around. We might also find ourselves, refusing to think, and just want to doomscroll through social media. All these are signs of not having enough mental rest. Over these last few weeks, and even months, have you allowed your mind to rest? Even for a moment? Do you take pauses in a day, in a week, in the month, to allow your mind to slow down and relax? To take a break from the constant thinking and stimulation? Regular mental breaks through the day is helpful. The Pomodoro method supports that, where you have 30mins of work, 5mins of break; 2hrs of work, 30mins of break. Good morning Some days you just need time to reflect and think. Just so you can get you mind in order, then you can set clear goals, create a plan and switch back on to go again. This was one of my happy places for me. The Wellbeing Hub is that for me now, getting people to their goals, no matter whether that is to lose weight, gain weight, rehabiltate so they can get back to a normality of their life even though it's been turned upside down and shaken, to help people with their mental health. All through physical activity and having fun. There are many ways people take time to reflect and think. Such as: crafting, singing, meditating, going for a drive, walking the dog, reading, gaming, listening to music and so much more. Today I challenge you to take 20 mins. When we are free from fear in general (and free from the fear of being judged), life becomes more liberating. When we are not controlled by fear, we have the freedom to make choices that align with our values and desires. This sense of autonomy and freedom can greatly contribute to our sense of mental well-being. We are more likely to engage in healthy behaviors without inhibition that fear often brings. For example, if you are not afraid of judgment or failure, we are more likely to try new physical activities or sports leading to better physical health. Fear often holds us back from pursuing our goals or expressing ourselves authentically.
