Have you noticed a change today? 1st of February (the midpoint between winter solstice and spring equinox) has been traditionally celebrated by the Celts as Imbolc, a day connected to the goddess Brigid and Mokosh (ะoะบะพัั in Russian) according to the Slavonic lore. It was believed that these goddesses bless and protect women, nurturing their health and giving them fertility. They also help to cut the thread from the past helping to let go of which no longer serves women. Extraordinarily, this goes way beyond ancient mythology. What I have observed in my years of working with women is that with the 1st of February there is not only improved mood and a sense of joy from seeing more sunlight. There is also a visible shift in health. If you are suffering from any chronic condition and found winter particularly challenging, today may mark a turning point. I have noticed that symptoms tend to get easier from 1st February onwards, responding more to nourishment and treatment. Beltane blessings! The festival of flowers for the Celtic folks from whom I'm descended has always intrigued me. Vicki Nobel @vickinobleone commented she feels this celebration of cross quarters, along with Solstices and equinoxes came down to us from Africa, and the earlier people. As a girl, my mama helped me make several paper cornucopia, full them with early flowers, ๐ and hang them on our three nearest neighbors' doorknobs. The only child in our rural neighborhood, my dashing away didn't fool them, Viola, Dorothy and Missus S. knew who left them the May basket! I didn't dance a Maypole until I was nearly 30, when our teacher's college class was invited to do so in a sweet little dogwood Grove near Pioneer hall! Sharing our beautiful Imbolc fire with you. We set up the portable fire pit (it folds down 100% flat. So cool!) in the orchard, lit a fire and poured an appropriate tea for the occasional- hot water over pink rosebuds and delicate osmanthus flowers- little blossoms to call in the blessings of spring. We honored Brigid, the goddess/patron saint of this day in early February; with fire, poetry, song and tea. Then we honored ourselves with venison burgers cooked over the sacred fire, and retired inside to continue working in our journals doing an exercise to manifest our best life in the coming year. Die Schneeglรถckchen stehen schon aufrecht, in voller Prรคsenz, nur klingeln tun sie noch nicht. Jeder Wassertropfen, jede Schneeflocke gleitet in unsere Erde, ist Nahrung fรผr alles was auferstehen mag. Tief im Schoร unserer Mutter regt es sich, erwacht behutsam die groรe Kraft des Lebendigen. Nichts kann sie aufhalten! Ich staune jedes Jahr aufs neue, dieses Wunder von Sterben und Wiedergeburt, so innigst zu erleben. Die Zeit der Dunkelheit, der Einkehr ins Innere geht langsam dem Ende entgegen. An manchen Tagen deckt mich noch das dicke Bรคrenfell zu, um in den letzten Resten des Winters behรผtet zu sein. So ist alles im Fluss. So ist alles zu jeder Zeit geborgen. In dieser Stille und im leisen erwachen empfange ich das Neue. Leaving out milk and offerings on the eve of Imbolc with my Brat Bride for healing. The brat is commonly a silk ribbon or cloth placed on the window sill at night to honour St. Brigid. It is said that the saint on the eve of her feast, went around the countryside and would touch the brat and endow it with healing powers. My beautiful healing cloth was gifted to me by my fellow OSIF minister Rev Martin , during our Seminary training.
