Imbolc is almost here! Imbolc is celebrated halfway between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox (usually february 1st or 2nd), making this Sabbat a crossroads between the seasons. Although the ground may still be cold, the plants still slumbering, and snow still falling, we know that the most difficult days are over. The ancients experienced a much different winter than we do in the modern world; however, our bodies still know the seasons and are connected to the earth. (in the Northern hemisphere) The very beginning of Spring is 1-2 February, at Imbolc (“in the belly”) when the very first signs of fertility and life start showing after the winter. The first birds chirping, the first flowers emerging… The Celtic wheel of the seasons is called the Ogham wheel and it has 8 celebrations - for each beginning and middle of season. Spring is upon us, and it signals the awakening of the planet after a long winter rest. Everything is bursting back to life. I enjoy embracing each season with awareness. Witchcraft often involves using colours, and I like to incorporate colour into my craft. Colours inspired by the seasons. Colour therapy is a valid practice, so it’s beneficial to surround yourself with uplifting or inspiring colours. I also like to take a moment to connect with the Earth by walking barefoot on grass or soil. Notice how it feels to be so close to the ground.

Il 31 gennaio si festeggia Imbolc, che significa "in grembo"...questo perché è da questo giorno che l'inverno comincia ad andarsene e la natura comincia a risvegliarsi, cosa che sarà evidente durante l'equinozio di primavera... Ma già da adesso cominciano a spuntare i primi fiori, tra cui il bucaneve, uno dei simboli di Imbolc proprio perché spunta durante i giorni che si avvicinano a questa celebrazione. La dea che accompagna questa celebrazione è la dea Brigid che rappresenta la fanciulla, così come Imbolc rappresenta il periodo in cui tutto comincia a rifiorire... è il momento in cui si celebrano i nuovi inizi, è propiziatorio per i nuovi progetti.. è un invito a lasciare indietro tutto ciò che è passato per pensare solo a ciò che verrà in futuro, che fiorirà durante la primavera. La dea Brigid essendo anche la dea dei fabbri, di coloro che attraverso il fuoco forgiavano nuovi strumenti, ci insegna proprio questo..ad onorare attraverso il fuoco tutto ciò che di nuovo stiamo costruendo nella nostra vita... Questo fuoco è un fuoco che porta luce. Il rituale tipico della notte di Imbolc è quello che prevede di bruciare le croci di Brigid fatte l'anno precedente a cui avevamo affidato i nostri intenti, e la creazione di quelle nuove. Se l'anno scorso non hai fatto nessuna croce di Brigid, puoi iniziare quest'anno e davanti ad una candela bianca accesa proferire verbalmente o nella tua mente il tuo intento. La croce di Brigid va poi conservata fino all'anno successivo... Essa servirà a conservare il tuo intento e a proteggerti dalle energie negative.
