A few days ago I made bird seed offerings to the wildlife in my area. They were a lot of fun to make and a tradition I think I am going to start every Imbolc as a way to welcome springs soon return. The snow is still on the ground and the birds could use some extra nutrients this time of the year! Plus they are super easy to make! All you need is •1 Cup Bird Seed •1 Packet Unflavored Gelatin •¼ Cup Boiling Water •Ghee or Butter to Grease the molds •Large Cookie Cutters •Wax Paper • 1 Paper Straw Cut into Pieces Instructions: 1. Boil water, mix ¼ cup boiling water with 1 packet of unflavored gelatin, stir until completely combined. 2. Mix in 1 Cup bird seed (I add a handful of cranberries I had leftover) but do not add too much more as there won’t be enough glue to hold it all together. 3. Mix until very well combined 4. Grease cookie cutters and place on wax paper on cookie sheet 5. Spoon mixture into cookie cutters and insert straw clipping into the bird seed so that when removed it created a hole for the string. 6. Place in Fridge and allow to cool, I gave mine 24 hours. 7. Remove from fridge and carefully remove bird seed from cookie cutters, they should hold their shape. 8. Remove straws and string twine through holes. 9. Hang bird seed ornaments from nearby trees, preferably in a window where you can see the birds eat them! Enjoy!! I doubted the recipe so I used 2 cups of bird seed and 2 packets unflavored gelatin. You can double triple or even quadruple the recipe depending on how much seed you wish to use. It may be best to do it in batches if making a lot. It is held on 1 February, or about halfway between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. We are saying goodbye to the crone months of winter and welcoming the #Goddess in her maiden form.
