A special deck of Tarot cards, known as the Jean Noblet Tarot de Marseille, was created in France around 1650 during a 250-year long exile of Jews in this area (many practiced in secret). One glance at the Jean Noblet Tarot deck, you’d think it was like any other Tarot deck. Taking a closer look, however, reveals a vast array of Torah stories, Hebrew letters, Jewish holy days, and Judaic ritual objects. The design of this Tarot deck was used as a tool for clandestine Jewish education. 'The Moon’ card in this deck tells the story of Passover. Look at the moon itself - it looks like a sun with a red and yellow rim shooting different color beams into the sky. This represents a few of the plagues; darkness, hail, thunder, and fire streaming down to the ground. ‘Langosta’ in old French and Spanish meant both lobster and locust - the lobster on ’The Moon’ card is a visual pun. In the story, it stated that no dog should bark at Israelites as they left Egypt. Next to the barking dog on the card is a lamb (it looks a little like a white dog), which would be slaughter. If you look closely at the buildings in the back you’ll see the blood smeared on the door frames. Look behind the dog and lamb and you’ll see the water turning red. January 26 - Mental Health COTD - Finding the Positive Today’s meditation was ten minutes long, and one of the free meditations from the FitBit app. It was uneventful and I struggled to stay settled and comfortable for the duration of the meditation. I did continue to practice bringing my focus back to my breath, though… so the “practice” part is still on point. • • • ◈ • 🌱 • ◈ • • • Today’s draw is The Moon card combined with the affirmation “Just one day at a time.” When life feels uncertain, we can begin to feel overwhelmed. Everything begins to feel like a threat to what we hold dear and we either shut down and hide or that uncertainty can cause anxiety to run out of control. The encouragement in today’s cards is that when we are feeling this way, we don’t shut down… but downsize. Instead of allowing all of the future possibilities and troubles that could come, focus only on the present. On today and only today. Tomorrow will take care of itself.
