The Autumn Equinox is almost here. I can feel the cool temperatures rolling in and the crispness in the air. My garden is retreating for the year with maybe one or two small harvests left before our first frost makes it’s appearance. We are descending into the darker half of the year retreating inward. I really enjoyed painting this red goddess over the last few days. It’s been a long time since I painted the first of these and I realised how far I had come in terms of how I paint, the ritual and the magick that has developed around my statues and runes. I’ve been researching ancient rituals whereby an object was inhabited by a divine being. It’s led me along paths about names, about breath and words but also into actions and ritual gesture. When I started it was all raw, on intuition and inspiration and if you have one of those early statues I think you know what I mean. Ancient Celts marked Samhain as the most significant of the four quarterly fire festivals, taking place at the midpoint between the fall equinox and the winter solstice. During this time of year, hearth fires in family homes were left to burn out while the harvest was gathered. After the harvest work was complete, celebrants joined with Druid priests to light a community fire using a wheel that would cause friction and spark flames. The wheel was considered a representation of the sun and used along with prayers. Cattle were sacrificed, and participants took a flame from the communal bonfire back to their home to relight the hearth. Early texts present Samhain as a mandatory celebration lasting three days and three nights where the community was required to show themselves to local kings or chieftains. Failure to participate was believed to result in punishment from the gods, usually illness or death. There was also a military aspect to Samhain in Ireland, with holiday thrones prepared for commanders of soldiers. Anyone who committed a crime or used their weapons during the celebration faced a death sentence. Another plant I've been learning about is Sweet Cicely or Myrrhis. We have this growing in the woods near our home and it has a lot of uses in cooking due to it's taste and smell of anise! The leaves, flowers and roots all have a licorice flavour and scent, and can be used in salads and sauces. The leaves can also be used in tea and the roots can be used similarly to parsnips. Ancient Celts marked Samhain as the most significant of the four quarterly fire festivals, taking place at the midpoint between the fall equinox and the winter solstice. During this time of year, hearth fires in family homes were left to burn out while the harvest was gathered. After the harvest work was complete, celebrants joined with Druid priests to light a community fire using a wheel that would cause friction and spark flames. The wheel was considered a representation of the sun and used along with prayers. Cattle were sacrificed, and participants took a flame from the communal bonfire back to their home to relight the hearth. Early texts present Samhain as a mandatory celebration lasting three days and three nights where the community was required to show themselves to local kings or chieftains. Failure to participate was believed to result in punishment from the gods, usually illness or death. There was also a military aspect to Samhain in Ireland, with holiday thrones prepared for commanders of soldiers. Anyone who committed a crime or used their weapons during the celebration faced a death sentence. Nice large skull from a dutch sheep, with big horns. Set consisting of the upper skull and two separate lower jaws. Please look closely at the pictures to observe the condition of this item. As can be seen on the pictures, it is not in perfect condition. There are some damages here and there and it's missing a few teeth. Also this item might be a bit fragile, so please handle it with care. But of course still a very nice item to put on your altar or bookshelf 'as is', or to use in your personal crafting purposes. This item is cleaned, but hasn't been bleached (except for a little natural sun-bleaching), so it has a nice natural color. Sizes; The skull (measured without the horns, and measured in a straight line, next to the skull) is approximately 23 centimeters long and the horns are approximately 34 centimeters long (measured going along with the curve).

Открывается дверь или окно, и зовутся предки (я, И.Ф.О. рождена от такой-то матери, от такого-то отца, зову своих предков по линии матери, отца. Хочу Вас почествовать, придите, отзовитесь). Проводится это как правило после захода солнца, время, когда им здесь разрешено пребывать. Все садятся за стол, начинают между собой разговаривать, будто они живые. Можно было обращаться к предкам с просьбами: о жизни и здоровье адептов рода, защита, исцеление, вопросы деторождения, вопросы брака, укрепление союза, вопросы бесплодия, благосостояния. Также можно попросить ответ через сон. В конце трапезы прощаются словами "Деды ели-пили, идите до дому". I've been reading A Frog In The Fjords by Lorelou Desjardins, a travel memoir about a French woman traveling to Norway for work and not looking forward to it but falling in love with the culture & community anyway. This has been on my to-read list for a long time as it was very hard to find a copy, and I'm absolutely loving it. This might be my book of the year! Now I want to go to Norway more than ever, but I'm also practicing friluftsliv happily here - the free enjoyment of hiking, foraging, gardening, and all things outdoors. This is the most unstructured time I've had since everything was shut down, and mentally/emotionally I'm doing so much better. A beautiful piece to connect your altar and daily spiritual practice with your dutch ancestors or heritage. Please note; pewter can stand a lot of heat, but isn't fully fireproof, so don't use bowls such as these to make your (ritual) fires in. My New Moon burning ritual, completed at the peak of the new moon which for me was 1147am. I left the last month behind and looked forward to the future with my Goddess by my side, under a bright midday sun. I really do enjoy experiencing both the sun and the moon at the same time outside of eclipses, it's such a fascinating dichotomy of energy and I find myself in a much higher place, intellectually and emotionally, and with much clearer vision.
