Het is fijn om de Beltane energie weer te voelen 💚 De beweging om me heen van de natuur die verder tot bloei komt en van de dieren die druk in de weer zijn, helpt om zelf ook echt weer in beweging te komen. En dat is meer dan welkom met meerdere evenementen in de planning, waaronder @eallum.official , @hxtival en in augustus voor het eerst @castlefest 😁 Voor een tijdje twijfelde ik wel of ik de energie van Beltane ook weer in mezelf zou voelen, maar inmiddels voel ik ruimschoots de motivatie voor meer projecten dan dat ik tijd heb 😅🙈 Al voelt het daardoor ook een beetje dubbel, met de druk om zoveel mogelijk te (moeten) doen, en angst om kostbare tijd te verspillen.. Tegelijkertijd voel ik ook dat niet alles in één keer en nu direct hoeft. Het jaarwiel en daarmee de seizoenen blijven doordraaien en ik weet dat ze niet op mij zullen wachten. Lily of the valley is steeped in legend. It’s the official flower of May, also known as May lily, or May bells. The flower is often referred to as Mary’s Tears, which refers to an old Christian legend where lily of the valley sprouted out of the same ground Virgin Mary’s tears dropped on, as she wept during Jesus’ crucifixion. An alternative legend explains that the lily of the valley flowers grew from the tears of Eve, after she was separated from Adam and cast out of the garden of Eden. The flower is mentioned several times in the Bible. In ancient times it was associated with humility and purity, as well as the goddess Ostara (from whose name we get our modern Easter) This was my Nan’s favourite flower. Here it is pictured underneath the weeping cherry tree in my garden. It’s been a few years since I first made Rose beads and I’m itching to try it again now that I know what I’m doing. For Beltane season, I thought I’d share the process with you so you can make your own! Use at least a dozen Roses. Remove the petals and add them to a nonstick pan OR a cast iron skillet if you’d like a blacker bead. Pour just enough distilled water over to cover them. Simmer on medium heat, keeping it just under a boil, for about ten minutes. Add the mixture to a blender and blend thoroughly. You can’t do this too long. It’ll make the paste smooth and the beads stronger. Add the paste back to the pan and simmer the mixture on low, stirring often, for 30 minutes, twice a day, for at least 3 days. In between the simmerings, set the pan aside to cool and dry out some. We’re slowly cooking off the moisture. You’re going for a modeling clay type texture. Once you have the right texture, roll a pinch of Rose paste in your hand into a ball. The beads could shrink up to 40% when dry, so consider that. Skewer the bead onto a pin and stick into into a piece of styrofoam. I use T-Pins because they’re thicker. Smaller pins made the beads nearly unstring-able. Give the beads a little twist and move up and down the pin once a day until the beads are thoroughly dry. This keeps them from drying onto the pin and breaking. They’ll dry faster in the sun as well. Next, string them as you wish! You can sand them a bit or even add a little Rose oil. You don’t want to let the beads get very wet. A sprinkling is fine, but they will come apart in water. To be perfectly honest, I cringe every time I hear this word because most the time I don’t even know what I’m trying to heal from. It could be baggage that isn’t immediately present in my consciousness. Estos dos elementos son, además, en los que se centra la parte de Beltane de nuestro último número (que, si todavía no lo tienes y te apetece adquirirlo, todavía estás a tiempo y puedes preguntarnos por MD sin compromiso). ‼️Es importante antes de empezar tener en cuenta que este jabón se hace con sosa cáustica. La sosa es un material corrosivo, de modo que ES OBLIGATORIO usar equipo de protección (mascarilla, guantes, gafas, ropa de manga larga, pantalones largos) y que, si toca algo, hay que rociar esa parte con vinagre para contrarrestar sus efectos. Para hacer jabón con infusión de rosas y fresas necesitarás: • Equipo de protección. • Un recipiente de cristal con capacidad para un litro o más. • Una espátula de silicona y una batidora de mano. • Una báscula de cocina (a ser posible, digital). • Molde para el jabón (sirve por ejemplo un brick de leche reciclado). • 345 gramos de aceite de oliva. • 109 gramos de agua o infusión de pétalos de rosa. • 45 gramos de sosa cáustica. • 1 fresa, cuyo peso descontaremos del agua que necesitamos. Instrucciones: Ponte todo el equipo de protección y prepara el entorno de trabajo de modo que tengas espacio de sobra para maniobrar y el vinagre a mano por si hubiese salpicaduras. En el recipiente de cristal, pesa el agua o infusión y la fresa triturada. Tara el peso y añade con cuidado la sosa cáustica. ‼️Esto va a producir una reacción química que soltará gases nocivos y producirá mucho calor, de modo que necesitas estar en un espacio bien ventilado o cerca de una ventana mientras remueves con la espátula para que se disuelva. Deja que la mezcla de agua o infusión y sosa repose a temperatura ambiente hasta enfriarse y fuera del alcance de niños y mascotas. (Sigue en comentarios).

Took my dog out this morning and noticed a fairy ring forming🧚🏽 While English & Celtic folklore tell tales of fairies dancing, these mystical circles were called witches rings in German folklore. "Witches would dance on Walpurgis Night", according to legend (The Woodland Trust | 2019). This "Germanic celebration of spring, fertility, and witches" occurred in the evening hours of April 30th (Sea Witch Botanicals | 2024). Or, as it has been called by others, Beltane eve, or May Day eve. While all of these celebrations have their own uniqueness, they do have overlapping customs and meanings celebrating this transitory time from spring to summer. This past Beltane, I had finally gotten started on the gardening projects (newbys are @survivalgardenseeds ) I had been meaning to do for weeks. That same day, I made some 'Fairy's Delight' sun tea by @thepotionpantryokc 🧚🏽♾️💫. Already, my medicinal herb cabinet is flourishing with new growth. As I shared on Beltane, the veil is just as thin now as it is during Samhain. Something that is definitely making itself clear & known to me today. PINNACLE ROCK (detail) near OLD HARRY ROCKS. Studand. Dorset. came across this painting today...whilst sorting out the studio which is now on Portland. And I'm remembering that my studio used to be an old coastguard lookout in Middle Beach just near Redend Point... so I got to know the area really intimately. The site of the coastguard lookout ( rented from the National Trust) has now fallen into the sea. All that remains are railway sleepers that edged the plot. The woods just before Old Harry and after Old Nick's Field are packed with Wild Garlic at this time of year. I'll need to get moving if I want to gather.
