The energies can be felt throughout the whole of May and into June when they begin to quieten down a few days before 20/06 to make way for Litha or Summer solstice To continue to deepen into Beltane, why not connect with the Norse goddess Freya? Along with fertility, love & beauty, she is the goddess of Seidr, a magical practice which is native to her lands. However, it can be practised anywhere there is nature and an open heart willing to tune into the earth & nature spirits. Seidr is an ancient practice that was conjured by women called Volvas (notice the similarity with the word vxlva?). They travelled across the landscape, stopping at towns & farms to serve the community with blessings & magical rituals. They would descend into the otherworld to commune with the deities of the land, making agreements with them on behalf of the people. This would help heal the sick & ensure a good harvest for the year to come. This mysterious shamanic tradition is the backbone of many of the ideas we have about witchcraft and magic in the world today. To begin a serious practise, it is wise to seek the guidance of practitioners, but you can start to connect with nature spirits in your local area through meditation, prayer & offerings, if you like. My Beltane didn't go as expected... ๐บ This photo isn't even from this week, because any photos would have been of Travis and I snuggled on the couch while he battled a cold, and I battled not catching it. ๐บ ((Yes, I'm aware and he pointed out that cuddling probably was not the best way to avoid sickness, but it was Beltane, damn it!)) ๐บ The picnic in the woods....nope The frolicking in the forest...nah The weaving of wildflowers in my hair while sipping May wine...none of it. ๐บ But besides watching a lot of Battlestar Galactica and finishing the ACOTAR series, we still did something special. ๐บ We talked, we dreamed, we fought, and we repaired. ๐บ We did a fertility ritual I created for Beltane in 2020, but had never been in the right place to invite in the results. ๐บ My heart cracked wide open, and I let him in deeper than ever before (into my heart, get your mind out of the gutter ๐) ๐บ We built resilience in our love, so we could face 11 hours of traveling then working a game without time for a proper meal yesterday and come out of it not hating each other, but speaking even more honestly and vulnerably than usual. ๐บ Yes, it's beautiful to craft rituals for the holidays. To celebrate them in fun, festive ways. ๐บ But it's more important to remember the why. ๐บ Beltane is for love and abundance and sensuality and new life. ๐บ And it's not over! Joyous Beltane friends. Yesterday as I was taking Sahar for our daily โMunchy Walk,โ I spotted the first shooting stars of the year starting to bloom. It was a wonderful reminder of the cycle of rebirth after a long winter. Things are starting to grow again. I see that in the earth as well as feel it in my life. Beltane is traditionally a fire festival. Bonfires are lit to cleanse, protect, and bring fertility to the land and animals. This makes me think of the fires I am lighting in my life, and as my coach @dianadaviscreative says, you have to stoke one fire at a time before you can tend to another.
