This is me in my happy place โค๏ธThis might seem like a weird Motherโs Day post but I think it is essential. I am more than a mother or any of the roles that I playโฆ. I am first and foremost a child of God โ- knit together in my motherโs womb (thanks momma!) โ-created in His imageโ- fearfully and wonderfully madeโ- and so loved by my Heavenly Father that He gave His only son, Jesus Christ, to die for me so that I can be with Him forever. I am learning that in order to be the mother to my kids that I want to be I have to first receive Godโs love and love this little girl. For so much of my life I havenโt done a good job of loving her and showing her the grace, kindness, and compassion she needs. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Galatians 6:9) Being a mother is hard for me. There. I said it. I could make up a lot of excuses like โI have a special needs childโ or โmy kids are really hyperโ but every child can be a challenge at certain times. As mothers we worry and fret and compare. When my kids were young I sought comfort in alcohol and this eventually became an addiction that prevented me from being the mother I knew I could be. Alcohol calmed my nerves and became my โrewardโ. I looked forward to that drink and in no time I was drinking earler and earlier in the day just to cope. Needless to say this path lead to a devastating โbottoming outโ. I had to make a decision to turn my life and will over to a power greater than myself. I turned to God. That journey has led me to a whole new life; a life of freedom and redemption and forgiveness. My kids are grown up now and have had the benefit of a sober mom for almost 20 years! And God is so good He has given me the gift of a grandson and a soon to be born granddaughter who I will be helping to raise. We often do some of our best parenting to our adult children! They need us too. If you are struggling as a young mom donโt give up! Our children need us as infants, as toddlers, as adolescents and as adults. Galatians 6:9 says that God makes a promise to all believers that if we stay strong and continue to do good, we will reap a harvest at the proper time. Happy Motherโs Day! ๐ค๐๏ธ๐ค
