So thankful that I have finally been feeling like myself again and for the most part in good spirits. Obviously we have our shitty days but for the most part I’ve just been overall happy, which hasn’t been a thing for a long time. I recently read a post about how doing a 180 and changing who you are is underrated. I couldn’t agree more. During my teenage years and even into my 20’s, I wouldn’t have seen myself really being a wife, definitely not a mother and being a homemaker wasn’t anywhere near being on the radar. Two things this kid of mine said to me that made my heart sing.. 1. I was driving us home after a long day... for both of us. And he piped up from his car seat and said, " Mommy, nothing can stop us." 🥹🥰 It's just what I needed to hear. And I burst. 2. I was sitting on the couch very quiet and deep in thought while he was playing with his train set... and I lost myself a little emotionally... and he came over to me and kissed me on my forehead and said, "Mommy, I'm very proud of you." Well, that was me done. 🥹😭🥰🤎 He put me right back on top of the mountain again, when I was falling down the rabbit hole. He's four. But he is a powerful four. A "four-ce" in my life. We THINK they are little and don't know much. But boy, are we wrong if we think that... Even when we don't think they are noticing, listening, absorbing... they are. And like my precious child knew EXACTLY what to say to me to push me ahead... Do you ever have a great idea as a mom that just totally feels like a fail once you do it? That was me today. I woke up this morning and thought to myself “It’s beautiful out. We should have a breakfast picnic at the park before music class! We’ll stop at Panera and get some bagels. Damiano will love it!” While Damiano did love the idea, it didn’t make him move any faster in the morning, in fact it felt like it took us longer than usual to go through our routine. And then the “rapid pick-up” at Panera wasn’t so rapid… my order was behind the counter instead of on the shelf, so I still had to wait in the morning breakfast rush line to pick up my food at the counter… then our drive took an extra 10 minutes (thank you Pittsburgh construction). The whole way to the park, I said to myself “This is stupid, this was a dumb idea, you’re gonna have 15 minutes to eat breakfast before rushing in to class.” So I gave Damiano half of his bagel in the car because he needs more than 15 minutes to eat… and we got to the riverfront park and found a bench spot for our picnic. And you know what, it may have only been 15 minutes instead of the 30-40 minutes I had planned on, but it was still something fun and different and Damiano enjoyed it! We listened to birds singing and he said “Good morning, baby bird!” We felt the sun on our faces. And we had “a really good breakfast” according to Damiano. That’s what matters, he matters, the time with him matters. So the next time your great mom idea feels like a mom fail, remember that it still might be something great in the eyes of your child!
