La copia de la Ilíada que me acompañó desde niño, aquella que leí entre los 5-6 años, siendo una de las razones sedimentarias por la cual me enamoré de la mitología, y al leerla enseguida, sin reflexión o duda, creí firmemente en la existencia de las potentes deidades relatadas, llegó recientemente a su final. El pequeño, y adusto, tomo, no daba para más, se desprendía cada tanto, en una agonía que yo prolongaba con crueldad, devorando una vez más sus páginas, pues a Homero hay que leerlo con asiduidad, para nunca olvidarlo. Por ello decidí, finalmente, reemplazarla, con esta bellísima edición tapa dura de Edimat Libros, el diseño de portada es sobrio y elegante a la vez, con deliciosos reflejos que juegan con la luz. La traducción, de momento, es satisfactoria, aunque cambia arcaísmos poéticamente agradables por simples alternativas, tal vez enfocadas a lectores más noveles, e.g. encuentro más poético leer teucros, que troyanos, y es la forma original como Homero nombra a los guerreros de la Tróade. La Ilíada es un libro que vale la pena tener en formato resistente, que perdure en el tiempo, a razón de que fue utilizado tanto para la magia, como para la adivinación, precediendo por mucho a la bibliomancia medieval; esta es una tradición, altamente popular en el Egipto Ptolemaico, que mantengo a día de hoy, pues posee potentes pasajes que sirven simultáneamente como conjuros y vaticinios. A su vez, es un majestuoso recordatorio de cómo los dioses influyen sobre nosotros, y de la visión de sus caracteres desde la perspectiva de quien fue cercano a la religiosidad helénica: Odiseo bien puede ver directamente a Atenea, o actúa con un palpito que ella le infunde, y que cree es solo suyo; Agamenón le hace esplendidos sacrificios a Zeus, y este, aunque los acepta, no concede sus peticiones; Ares es patrón de Menelao, pero lo impulsa en la batalla para que muera de forma cruenta.
