The Mandarin Tree is a revolutionary book that aims to introduce Asian-American magic and spirituality, specifically Chinese-American prosperity and luck magic, to the west. There are already resources (albeit few) in English that discuss Asian and Chinese spirituality, but this is among the first that represent the magic of Asian/Chinese-“Americans”, the diaspora who brought their practices to the U.S. and adapted/mixed them with the other magical practices here. As nature is a cyclical being, so are we. And after a long DEATH phase, I am slowly being rebirthed. Sometimes there is so much to say, so much going on within, that the most natural response on the outside is SILENCE and STILLNESS. Since I embarked on my journey of RECLAMATION, some years ago, it has been a fast and unpredictable roller-coaster and at times I could barely keep up with my own healing process. This year started with the LOSS of my dear grandma, in February, that impacted me profoundly. I had the privilege to accompany her for the whole transition, taking weeks. It was one of the deepest experiences I ever had in this lifetime. So new… and yet so familiar. And even if I could not rationally know.. I KNEW. I intuitively knew she would be fine and safe.. I found BEAUTY in Death.. .. and I sensed the NATURALNESS of it. I experienced so much RESPECT for her Pain. I felt the Joy and Love of being CHOSEN as her guide during this powerful passage. I could clearly feel the BRIDGE building between our world and the other side.. With all our loving Ancestors and Angels waiting for her just beyond the threshold, filled with Joy and Love. MY HEART WAS BROKEN WIDE OPEN by the Pain of the earthly family, experiencing the loss.. ..but also by the Joy of the heavenly family, eager to reunite. There was no fear in me whatsoever, which totally surprised me. I am deeply grateful for my Nonna for trusting me so much to choose to pass away in my presence. She is a great teacher in disguise. And I know that sooner or later, when her soul will be ready, she will be right at my side in spirit doing healing work with me.
