Äitienpäivän alla on hyvä muistella edesmenneitä äitejä. Ainon Maria-äiti kuoli 52 vuoden iässä 14.4.1922 vaikean sairauden murtamana. Kirkon rekisterin mukaan hän kuoli ”halpaukseen”. Aino oli taasen kertonut Mirja-tyttärelleen isoäidin kuolleen puutostautiin. Mikä tuo halpaus- tai puutostauti sitten oli? Näiden tietojen perusteella todellista kuolinsyytä on vaikea määrittää. Marian kuollessa lapsikatraan nuorin, Olga, oli vasta 8-vuotias. Mariasta ei ole olemassa ainuttakaan kuvaa eikä tarinaa. Rippikirjojen perusteella hänen tiedetään olleen torpparin tytär, seitsemän tyttären ja kahden pojan äiti sekä torpparinpojan vaimo. Maria oli monen aikakautensa naisen tavoin sitkeä ja urhea. Hän eli lähes koko elämänsä Venäjän hallitsemassa Suomen suuriruhtinaskunnassa köyhyyden ja elintarvikepulan keskellä. Marian ensimmäinen lapsi Edla Maria (s. 1891) syntyi avioliiton ulkopuolella. Rippikirjoissa Marialla kulki koko loppuelämän ajan merkintä: ”ripitetty salavuoteudesta”. Edlalla oli merkintänä ”äpärä”. Salavuoteus poistui rikoslaista vasta vuonna 1926. 1898 vihille mennessään Maria odotti Aino-tytärtään. Aviopuoliso Frans oli kahdeksan vuotta nuorempi Mariaa. Kuolinilmoitus kertoo, että Maria oli hellä äiti lapsilleen ja rakas vaimo miehelleen. Day 26 of #30daysofgenealogy Recent Discovery.... A few months ago I was asked by a friend to try and figure out who the people were in her old family album. I came across this lovely photo of a lady with her grandson. Her name is Emily Greenslade and she was born in 1826 in Hastings. The little boy is William Harold, affectionately called Bill. This photo was taken around 1904 and Emily passed away not long after it was taken in 1905. There is a song by American-Irish band, The Elders. The title is 1849, and it tells, with beauty, the story of immigrants...their despair, their hope, their courage, their sacrifice. The third verse goes: "The memories of the loved ones, who were swallowed by the sea Handed down from father to son, along with the rosary One black bead for every soul forever lost in time Who never heard the New Year's bell of 1849" These rosaries were handed down to me. They were brought from Croatia, France, and Ireland. They are my most cherished, priceless treasures, representing the Anaconda, Montana immigrants who gave me life. The bank pictured here, is pre-1885 when the Newton Brothers took over the bank from Milton Cornell, who established the private Kendall County Bank. The Spanish used many terms to identify a person's socio-cultural lineage and these can help give us information specially if we are in search of our ancestors of indigenous and african ancestry or other lineages. In Latin America and the Carribbean our lineages are way more complicated then we think. Please note this posting is just to make you aware of these terms BUT each country may sometimes use other terms or use the same words in different ways. For example in Mexico you will see in some records use the term "español " or "española", is that an ancestor that came directly from Spain? No, that is an Ancestor also known as "criollo" who was born outside of Spain, but has enough Spanish ancestry to be considered "español". Does it mean that line can still be mixed? Yes, that ancestor could still descend from indigenous ancestors.
