Decision fatigue and weariness from the pace of life are two things I packed in my soul as I prepped to head to Colorado. Yet, I knew I'd come home lighter. Beauty quiets my swirling mind, pokes my spirit awake with wonder, and releases my burdens in the face of God's glory. Listening to my young adult children banter and laugh works magic, too. My husband and I are tired, but we don't sleep. Until yesterday. With phones set aside and little to do but watch the snow fall, I felt rest settle on me like a warm blanket. As I type, my family sleeps. The snow falls. The house is quiet. I'm curled up with hot tea and a blanket. God and I sit and enjoy the morning. So, why bother typing up a post, you ask? So there I was, on a mundane mission to CVS, tasked by the parental units to fetch a list of essentials which, let’s be honest, mostly consisted of prescriptions and household cleaning supplies. As I meandered through the aisles, dutifully checking off items, I stumbled upon a section that made me do a double-take. Amidst the sea of greeting cards, one stood out like a beacon of unexpected awesomeness - a card from Hallmark Mahogany @hallmarkmahogany dedicated to promoting Black mental health. Impressed and intrigued, I knew I couldn’t leave the store without it. This card was a testament to trim the stigma, a nod to the importance of mental health, and frankly, the coolest thing I’d picked up all day (sorry, disinfectant wipes). I see this so often, people take a huge leap head first into a relationship before dealing with issues. Then they are left devastated and confused when it doesn’t work out. And more often than not it won’t work out. I can attest to this from personal experience. I’ve felt those wounds and I’ve also been the one that wasn’t ready. Take the time in your singleness to heal and prepare your heart for what God is preparing for you!! I promise you can’t heal and work through issues in yet another relationship. You will drag everything that went wrong with your past relationships into that new relationship. It may seem different and amazing at first and then as time goes by those same unresolved issues will rise to the surface and they cause problems. We are so desperate for another relationship, we dive in too soon with someone else and we begin to stack relationships on top of each other and we blur the lines.
