It forms a small bushy shrub, which is widely cultivated by gardeners. The grey-green leaves are small, ”dill-like” and feathery. The small flowers are yellow. 🌼🌿🌿🌿 . It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is great and all, but the summer solstice, when the green things are flourishing is my favorite. Forgotten corners of civilization explode with Gaia’s gifts. Saint John's wort is one of those 🎁. I love gathering at the very beginning of the season. When the new buds are easy to pick. The transcendent purple/red pigment of Saint John's wort comes from the pollen of the unopened buds. This pollen is photosensitive so as soon as the flower opens, it starts to fade. If you have ever gathered SJW and not gotten a deep red result, this could be why. During the long cold winter months this medicine is powerful. The taste, a reminder that winter will end and the mood boosting properties make for a comforting ally. I put some up in grape seed oil and set it in the sun for skin remedies as well.
