I had the privilege of growing and doing wedding flowers for the sweetest couple this weekend, Catherine & Ben, at the gorgeous @cedarmerefarm. The couple’s flower choices and color palette were a dream to work with - pastel peonies, ranunculus, anemones, garden roses, stock, snapdragons, agrostemma, and more. All of the greenery and flowers were sustainably and locally grown on our farm and @cedarmerefarm (with the exception of a few sprigs of hypericum berries and some beautiful supplemental ranunculus from @unionmillsflowers). All of the arrangements and installations were also done sustainably and without the use of flower foam and single-use plastics. The wedding was beautiful and I’m so glad I got to be a part of it. (I took these photos quickly with my phone. Hopefully, I can share some of the official wedding photos at some point!) One of the many highlights of the weekend was getting to meet and talk with the Groom’s father, John, who owns @carolinalavenderfarm. They grow many different kinds of eucalyptus and lavender and we geeked out talking about the different varieties. Have you heard of rainbow eucalyptus?! I had not and WOW. Jam jars Pretty from every angle 😍 Jam jars are a great way to get your own mini arrangement with a wider variety of flowers as they don’t require long stems. I like to use them with lots of single flowers or the same variety in different colours instead of repeating the same. They look absolutely lovely on a bed side table. These two went out to two of my lovely regular customers this morning. I’ll have more this weekend coming - Saturday 18th. The flower arrangement I made using the blue footed bowl I bought from potter Vivian Johnson, flowers from Kathy Dyer and the new young flower farmer that I don't yet know. I used a floral frog anchored with a bit of clay, rocks, and sand to make the griding. I wouldn't recommend the sand. The rocks worked wonderfully through. This is an old colonial idea, as is the sand. But the sand is much better suited to dried arrangements. This arrangement took part in two events yesterday. In the morning @farewellflowers held their first promotional photoshoot with @wild_meadow at Waseley Hills Crematorium. Members of the new directory, launched this week, gathered with their beautiful arrangements to promote the new directory of florists who offer sustainable funeral flowers. A large collaboration, with photos, posts and tags to follow, our flowers will play a part to help promote the service offered by many around the country. Relocated, reassembled, rearranged and carried - I was grateful by this point 🙏 - the urn then became part of a memorial service to say a truly fond farewell to my wonderful Godfather in a beautiful church in Worcester. He was my Dad’s greatest chum and partner in whatever they really got up to. The last photo is of them holding a photo of them together on one of their own wedding days - not sure which. I was so pleased to have been able to make them for him and his family. 🩷🧚🏽♂️🌿🌷🍑🐛💜 I was feeling a lack of motivation to get started on some projects earlier this week. The creativity wasn’t flowing and my deadlines just felt like a chore. BUT once I got these incredible locally grown blooms from @olivias_blooms, everything just started flowing. So many new textures to experiment with. I love the wild garden style arrangement so much. It’s a tricky balance some times to keep it looking organic while not getting chaotic. This arrangement came together really naturally and I think it was because of the perfect balance of textures.
