What better way to celebrate National hedgerow week - we spied the common spotted orchid in a Broadclyst hedge. Dainty yet statuesque they can be seen on verges, in hedges and sand dunes - they often form a carpet in our woodlands and marshes. Their name comes from the purple spots on their green leaves. I was editing a clients podcast episode recently, on the importance of joy, and something she said was that we tend to think joy is in the big things like completing a goal, or getting that promotion, or doing a hobby you’re passionate about… which of course will all make you feel joyful… but we forget about all the small things that also bring us joy daily. Like a sunrise. There are so many small pockets of joy every day that stack up, and it can start to feel euphoric once you become fully aware of them. I’ve always found joy in sunrises and sunsets, my phone is full of pictures just like this one. … but I also find joy in 👇 🌧️ Rain on the roof when I’m in bed ☕️ The smell of coffee in the morning 🐕 Patting a random dog 😀 Smiling at strangers 🚿The feeling of a shower after a workout 🦶🏼 My feet in the sand 🍝 The taste of spicy tomato pasta 🐈 Cuddling my cat 🌸 Flowers at spring time 🍁 Leaves in the autumn … the list could go on. Wonderful willow - symbolising rebirth and also known as the tree of immortality due to its gift of regeneration as if a bough falls onto damp ground, it will likely root. I met a new friend today at the Pinetree Forest. Spring has arrived in all its glorious wonder. The forest is busy these days with birds climbing trees and singing their familiar songs. It’s music to my weary ears. The deer are out in groups, some moving aside to have a patch of the budding grass to themselves for an afternoon snack. Buds are also popping now lending color where all winter we only saw shades of grey. Meadow grass gently blowing in the light breeze that only a few days ago was a wild and dangerous wind. The star of the spring show, though, was the sun. Lifting up all of our spirits to highs we forgot how to feel because of our long dull winter. Its light was brilliant as I walked slowly through the woods taking snaps along the way, the sun warming each step as I slowly moved forward. It was a gift to be out there, just me and the critters each soaking up the early days of fresh sunshine and new birth in our own way. Sharing the Pinewood Forest together again.
