I never thought I’d be into CrossFit. It always seemed like kind of a cult to me. But I’m enjoying the CrossFit open and enjoying new ways of pushing my limits, physically and mentally. I’ve always enjoyed competition and I think I’ve finally found the sport that speaks to me at my age. 24.2 was a great workout and experience: AMRAP 20 mins 300M row 10 deadlifts @ 135lbs 50 jump ropes (Yes I had to do it scaled because I’ve never practiced double-unders) Made it through 9 rounds, an average of 2:13 per round. Happy with the results! And more so happy I made the commitment to participate even though I though I’d never be that guy. #crossfit #crossfitopen2024 #nxpt #nxptmade #fitover45

Great way to start 2024! People ask me why I do these races 🤔! Well, I do them for various reasons but one of the main reasons is; checking in with my self-talk. My very first experience with Spartan Race, I noticed that I was talking myself out of the race before the race started and even in the race itself. The self-doubt and negative talk crept in. I've always been a person to dive into self reflecting and to gain more understanding of the knowledge of self. So I noticed in order to acknowledge the self-doubt, and that part of me that I try to suppress needs to be revealed through challenge and struggle. First race of the year was a new event for me. Basically it was a hybrid race/fitness competition put on by @nxptfit combining elements of Hyrox, Deka, Spartan OCR and their own creative challenges. Fortified with positive vibes and energetic music, this was a really cool event that I highly recommend. I'm really into the hybrid scene right now but since this was outside on a super sweet track, I was especially stoked. As for the race, it was a very tight battle early on with the legit group of guys featured in these pictures, including my bro @big_brother_spartan but I managed to open up a gap and cruise in for the win; but unfortunately I only ended up 1st in my heat, 2nd overall to the speedy @_kaniela_sorenson so I probably should have pushed harder in the 2nd half. Only problem was, I don't think my running legs were too keen on that idea anyway, lol. Special shout out to @nxptmade for the invite and of course @cali_trailrunnernurse for the support. I don’t do it for the cheese. I’m lactose 🚫🧀 . After getting on the podium, my little brother said “you got 2nd place? You need to try again”. I laughed and said “you right” . This was my first Nxpt games, first elite division competition, and first time receiving a cash prize. I am very proud of this achievement, but that doesn’t mean I’ll settle. My goal isn’t always to win. I want to constantly push myself to be better everyday. In turn, winning will be a product of that. So I’ll keep working hard until I get to the top! Today, I participated in my first fitness competition and it was an exhilarating experience! Normally, I’m the one cheering my athletes and providing them with water during their competitions, but today I was in the spotlight. The NXPT GAMES was the perfect choice for my first competition, and I was fortunate to have a fantastic partner. The Games were incredibly challenging, but I wore a smile on my face throughout the entire race. I love taking on difficult tasks, especially with a friend. It’s empowering to push ourselves to complete something that seems impossible. Having all eyes on us, cheering us on, motivated us to keep going and move faster. Deka day 1 (for me) is in the books. Based on qualifying times, I was seeded second so I came into this day with a lot of anticipation of the possibility of a podium finish. I left with a 6th place finish and to be fair, it wasn’t close. I finished with a time of 23:07, about 1:30 off of a podium spot. It was a full 2.5 mins slower than my qualifying time. What was exciting was that I was leading coming into the 6th of 10 zones (the farmer carry)! I couldn’t believe it. I thought “maybe this is my time!”. I felt strong, fit and confident. Even after the 6th zone I felt good and was in the running. Then. Came. The. Bike. It wasn’t so much that I did poorly; I was within 10 seconds of my goal (1:40). It was that the athletes I was competing with were just that much better. And I was totally gassed for my run after that.I lost a minute off the lead at this point. One athlete, the guy who won, did 25 calories in under a minute! It was incredible. From there it kind of fell apart. Going to the Ball over the shoulder I had fallen to 5th. Going into Zone 9, the tank, I was in 6th Going into the burpees I was .2 seconds ahead of 7th. Thankfully I did well on the burpees and extended that lead by 11 seconds, but not enough to get into 5th. It wasn’t the result I thought I could have, but without a doubt I left it all out there. I had nothing left at the end. I have it my best today. And I learned. I learned that if you want to compete - honestly at anything - it’s not just about giving it all on the day of the event. It’s about giving it all for all the weeks and month leading up to the event. I learned that at this level, just doing workouts isn’t good enough. The guy who won owns a ski machine at his house and does hours upon hours of work on it. He loves it. When I was happy with my 1:50/500m pace he was destroying it at 1:35/500m Finally I learned, as @abogyfit said - volume matters. Specifically I should have done more long steady bike training as it it would have helped my time & fitness. One more day to go. #motivationmonday This year has definitely had its share of ups and downs. After popping my hamstring during the middle of summer, the remaining season was focused on rehab and strength building. I had no further plans to compete and was planning my 2024 season. You can have all the plans, ideas, and vision but life happens and it's how we respond that counts. The Bible promises we will never be tempted more than what we can handle. A few weeks back I ran my first Utlra 50k taking 1-1-1 in AG and would have put me 2nd in Elite. Deka WC is this coming weekend where I qualified for 2 of the 3 events🤷🏽♂️. Due to scheduling, I'll only be competing in one event but managed to make the top 10 heat🤷🏽♂️. To say I'm pumped would be an understatement. A fortune 500 CEO once told me, in life, you have to have a true north. For me, it's staying focused to the vision God's(Proverbs 19:21) given me🙏🏼, and disciplined to the process👊. It's not about the podiums, medals, or accomplishments. Mission Bay International Triathlon 2023. This was my first triathlon post broken foot. I didn’t know if I’d ever even be able to get back here. But I did. And I sobbed as I crossed that line because it is overwhelming knowing that I made it back to my passion. Podium SZN! . This was my 7th spartan race, but my first time doing one in a stadium. This was also my first time getting onto a @spartan podium! Pretty big deal because I don’t solely train for one type of competition. This goes to show how functional fitness can translate into many areas.
