I am in pain. I’ve twice torn the Anterior Cruciate Ligament in my right knee. But this pain is fine. Because I’ve adjusted. I am in pain. I have badly damaged the tendons in both elbows. This pain right now is really hard – because to deal with it properly demands lifestyle change. Too often the pain of change is harder than the pain of not changing. This just makes things more painful. I was in pain. I was stressed, unhappy, too busy all the time, working to old patterns that didn’t serve. I was unwilling to stop and examine the pain – something we so often run from. That just increased the pain. Too many of us only change when the pain of staying the same finally outweighs the pain of change. (and this can be extreme – burnout, relationship collapse, depression) Whats you pain tolerance. At some time, without you realising it, it will be the very last time you do something that matters… That could be: Lifting your kids up into your arms. Calling your father on the way home, Running after the bus, Laughing so hard with your best pal that the tears pour out of you, Playing the sport that lights us up. Telling your Mother you love her, Visiting a place you love to go, Reading a book by your favourite author. And it makes me think how so much of life passes before our eyes. We blink and miss it because we weren’t paying attention to it. There are so many things we will miss when they are gone. But while they are here – lets enjoy. And whoever is close to you, tell them you love them as often as you can. Have a great weekend folks. I have ruined my daughter’s life… And that’s the 3rd time in the past week that I’ve ruined it! This time it was because I wouldn’t let her head out the door in a pair of shorts and a bra top, WITHOUT a jacket, on a freezing cold March day! I understand though, my parents repeatedly ruined my life when I was a teen. It is my role as her guardian to protect her against herself as practically as I can. (And I’m working on building a relationship where we talk and discuss, rather than just lay down laws) But it begs the question – who guards you against yourself? Oh that’s right we’re adults, we know everything and we never make mistakes! We would never stay in the wrong job too long, We would never ignore the warning signs and keep working overtime at the expense our kids or our relationships. We would never say ‘just one last take away’ as we ignore our deteriorating physical health! And we wouldn’t dare bottle up how we feel and ignore whats really going on for us. In some instances we can hold ourselves accountable - But it’s damn hard to do all the time. What would your life look like if you had an accountability partner. If you had a coach who held you accountable to what you said you were going to do, To who you said you were going to become. To taking the actions to make it happen. That right there is real value. Unlike my teenage daughter I won’t ruin you’re life – I guarantee I’ll improve it… Having teenagers is fun isn’t it! Ae you aware that you might be setting negative goals without even realizing it! Let me explain… Negative goals are goals framed in a way that focuses on what you want to avoid or eliminate, Instead of what you want to achieve. As a result they are a lot less motivating and don’t tend to lead to long term success. ▶ Quit eating crap: Yep that’s the language we use isn’t it. Instead of framing it in terms of eating healthy – we focus on what we want to stop and as a result we are thinking about what we are missing out on. ▶ Stop procrastinating: This focuses on what we don’t want - rather than focusing on being proactive and productive. ▶ Stop working late: Great, but the focus here is on the work – what are you missing out on, doing something fun, getting exercise – putting the kids to bed. There’s the goal to set. ▶ Reduce stress: This would seem a good thing, and it is, but the focus is on the reduction – not the coping, not the managing, so the focus remains on the problem not the solution ▶ Stop thinking negatively: As opposed to thinking positively! Language has huge power. When we set our goals through our language.. we need to be careful where the focus is. (and yes people say they don’t set goals – and maybe there is no official goal setting exercise here, but there is a desire, an intention – who hasn’t left the house and said to their partner I don't want to work late tonight - where they really mean I want to be home tonight to put the kids to bed and we can watch that last episode of true detective!) 💥 Check what you are working towards. 💥 Make sure it is the thing you want and not just focusing less of what you don’t want. You will be amazed at how this changes how you feel. And if this reframe is a struggle. Lets talk. Reasons Not to Worry - How to be Stoic in Chaotic Times by Brigid Delaney ~ Published by @allenandunwin I really enjoyed this book. Knowing very little on philosophy and the Stoics, Brigid Delaney was able to write in an easy to consume manner, which I appreciated. As an overthinker who has a stressful job (that I love), I was able to take a lot of the practices and focus on them. I can understand how this may not be everyone's topic of reading, though it really resonated with me and my understanding of the world, as I am sure it would with others. I also appreciated that there is a list of further readings in the back. I will absolutely be returning to this book, as well as looking for further readings on the subject. Don't Worry - Easier said than done! In a world where there is so much going on, so many things we can worry about, we were given on sunday some good advice on how we can deal with our worries. When we are caught up with worrying, make a deliberate effort to find things to be THANKFUL for. There is always something to be grateful for! When we are surrounded by worries in your own life, look around you and see where you can HELP OTHERS. This encourages us to look outside of our own problems which often helps reduce worrying. When worrying takes over, LOOK UP. Talk to God about your worry and wait for His answer. He may not zap the problems aways, but He promises to be always with us and to help us through everything. Wednesday Wellbeing⠀ ⠀ This month our focus is on ways to curb worrying.⠀ ⠀ My tip this week is all about helping you take positive action.⠀ ⠀ Focus on what’s helpful⠀ ⠀ Helpful worries are those we can act on immediately. For example, we might worry about Coronavirus, so making sure we wash our hands and wear a mask are helpful things to do. Meanwhile, unhelpful worries are those where we can’t act. So, worrying we might become really poorly is unhelpful because it’s beyond our control.⠀ ⠀ - Firstly, ask yourself: “Is my worry helpful or unhelpful?”⠀ - If you decide your worry is helpful, list the possible actions you can take. There’s no need to find a perfect answer, just focus on what you can do rather than what you can’t.⠀ - Once you have a list of options, you can make an action plan.⠀ - Actions you can take right now might include exercising, eating well, or spending time with family. Usually, taking action helps us feel better.⠀ - If your worry is unhelpful, accept there is nothing you can do about it and move your focus to what’s helpful instead. What Jesus Said About Worry In Matthew 6, Jesus is continuing His Sermon on the Mount that began in chapter 5 and extends through the end of chapter 7. In this popular teaching, Jesus gives instruction about prayer, anger, adultery, as well as other topics. He’d just finished speaking about money and possessions when He journeys into the topic of worry. No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money. That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life … Matthew 6:24-25 NLT Jesus told us not to worry because He knows that our infatuation with money will take our affection off serving God. But our worries often go beyond money struggles. There are many other concerns we face daily that seem to warrant a worry stance. Let’s look at why Jesus told us not to worry: Worry Benefits No One Jesus taught that worry is futile. It produces no fruit. There’s absolutely nothing that comes from it. Worrying would make sense if it was productive. But it isn’t. Worrying about a situation doesn’t prevent it from happening. Yet, we engage it in often instead of making the choice not to. (We’ll talk more on Day 3 about how to overcome this unprofitable cycle.) Worry Is Unnecessary Jesus told us in Matthew 6 that the birds in the air and the flowers in the field are provided for. And they’re just birds and flowers! How much more does He care for us? An immense amount! He cares for us more than He cares for other created things. He didn’t die on the cross for them—He died for us! So, if they’re provided for, won’t we be? Worry Exposes Our Devotion Whether we worry about money, people, or careers, if we spend our time worrying, that’s what we are devoted to. We should devote ourselves to the people whom God has put in our lives and do the best in the jobs we’ve been given. But according to Matthew 6, we are to seek the Kingdom of God first and then, everything will be added to us. Worry means to feel or cause to feel troubled about actual or potential problems. “Potential” – how many times have we lost sleep over potential trouble, fear and loss which most of them never happened. To “consider” your future is one thing but to feel troubled over fear of potential bad things to happen is another thing. When you worry, you pay in advance and double for bad things that may or may not happen. Besides, the state of worry in itself is already a bad thing – so why put yourself into it? 4 Easy Steps to Catch Your Worries 1. Stop 🚫 and acknowledge what you are worried about – write them📝, each one of them. 2. Read and take a good hard look at the things you are worrying about – objectively assess 🎯 and write against each worry if it is “actual” or “potential” 3. For the “actual” problems – write another column beside it and write down the list of things you can do. Slowly start taking small steps in resolving them. 4. For the “potential” problems – Imagine yourself in a store, ask yourself if you are willing to pay in advance for some purchase that may or may not be delivered? if you answered no, treat your worries the same. We are excited to be launching several online courses for parents in September. Worrying helps Nothing Will the walk and trail be difficult? Will the water and food supply will last till next supply? Will the itinerary be followed till next? We constantly worry about details too much when there is nothing much can be done to control it. Rather, it has been observed that 90 percent of things which we worry about never really happens. #HowNotToWorry by #PaulMcGee. I’m going to keep this review really short. I didn’t enjoy this much at all. It has some useful hints and tips, but they all felt quite obvious to be honest! I’m not a huge worrier, but like everyone, every now and then I can get into a bit of a tizz over nothing! So I was hoping to get a bit of guidance from this book. However, it basically told me things I already knew. I wouldn’t say don’t read it, I’d just say that you can probably find better helpful information elsewhere. #StarRating: ⭐️⭐️

8 OF CLOUDS: GUILT 🌿🏞️🌌🌼🌅 Guilt is one of the most destructive emotions in which we can get caught. If we have wronged another, or gone against our own truth, then of course we will feel bad. But to let ourselves be overwhelmed with guilt is to invite a migraine. We end up surrounded by nagging clouds of self-doubt and feelings of worthlessness to the point where we cannot see any of the beauty and joy that life is trying to offer us. 🔸 We all long to be better people--more loving, more aware, more true to ourselves. But when we punish ourselves for our failures by feeling guilty, we can get locked into a cycle of despair and hopelessness that robs us of all clarity about ourselves and the situations we encounter. You are absolutely okay as you are, and it is absolutely natural to go astray from time to time. Just learn from it, move on, and use the lesson not to make the same mistake again. 🔹 This moment!...this herenow...is forgotten when you start thinking in terms of achieving something. When the achieving mind arises, you lose contact with the paradise you are in. This is one of the most liberating approaches: it liberates you right now! Forget all about sin and forget all about saintliness; both are stupid. Both together have destroyed all the joys of humanity. 🔸 The sinner is feeling guilty, hence his joy is lost. How can you enjoy life if you are continuously feeling guilty? if you are continuously going to the church to confess that you have done this wrong and that wrong?
