The BBC included some of my YouTube footage in a London Marathon montage a couple of weeks ago. 🥳 If you have iplayer, you can check it out in the last 3 minutes of My Reason To Run, which was on BBC One the day before this year's marathon. I believe it was also used as the opening coverage to the race. A big thank you to the very awesome Philip Hughes and Nicholas Perry who produced and edited it. In other news, my Freddie Mercury series on YouTube has more than 20,000 views. Hiiii, it’s me… & Emmy! If I’m being completely honest, I have been struggling with social media and how I want to show up on here. & with that, I just stopped showing up on my feed altogether. Having your own business that is social media dependent gets in your head, because you want to “do it right”, but I also want to be authentic and not a robot or do something that doesn’t feel genuine to myself. What do I want to share? How do I make myself relatable? Is it really even that serious?! It seems like theres so many rules and algorithms now that you “need” to hit to reach the right people. What if I don’t want to follow the rules? What if I don’t want to post a 6 second reel with catch phrases and words to get your attention?! I want to share my family, AND the super amazing opportunity at my finger tips. Why do I have to choose?! Can you relate to that?! I know I’m not the only one. What do you want to see from me? I’m a labor and delivery RN, yes even if I’m not currently at bedside. I’m a #homebirth mama with a passion for physiological birth and all things natural. I love my family, and we aren’t perfect at all. I’ve done a lot of therapy PP to deal with my needing to be in control. IYKYK. I’m the baby sister of a lot of siblings. I love good food, and also clean non-toxic everything. It’s called balance. I know a little about a lot of things. For the first year of my business, everything felt so triggering because all my inner child shit was coming up. I was doing inner child work 5-7x a week for a YEAR!!! The best and worst thing about following your soul purpose is that the highest timeline of your life can often be the hardest. To hold the bigness of your mission you have to clear out all the blocks, people, beliefs, and identities holding you to your old self and life. It sounds beautiful but it’s a deeply uncomfortable process. This entrepreneurial journey is a spiritual growth journey in disguise if you’re noticing all your “stuff” coming up know you’re not alone. But awareness isn’t enough. Key milestone in my career progression in the field of art and humanities. What is next? We shall see...laying low for a bit in the academia, need to take a breather...this academic journey is quite challenging...KPIs, publications WOS, Scopus, chasing Grants, supervisions, teaching...and time just flies. I guess being in top research uni is no mean feat as you need to measure and benchmark everything at the global scale..whatever that means. I was told that is the DNA of UM, and art practice and "creative works" are measured by how many papers and grants that you have churned out. I believe that I have played it well there but I still feel there is something else, the core reason why I am an artist or wants to be an artist...
