Lately, I feel so guilty of parenting not remembering what it was like to be a child. In all fairness, many aspects of my childhood were not ideal and honestly quite traumatic but I have plenty of good memories as well. Channeling the version of my inner child that did many bonehead things might really help me to let go of all the expectations. Sometimes, I think our shoulds interfere with our children fully expressing themselves and being children. Society wants them to grow up so fast but can we slowdown and just let them be? My personal challenge this week…remember my own childhood and parent my kids how I would want to be parented. Having a positive learning environment has been a struggle because of all the negativity. Shifting our attitude every morning to have a positive spin on things has been huge! It started with me just rephrasing student statements and now they are rephrasing their own statements. The shift from “It took so long for my mom to do my hair” to “My hair is in braids today!” has been a gamechanger in my room.
