Am I really making the “right” decision? That’s something I used to worry about a lot. There are so many possible directions we could go in our lives. We have so many choices to make and the pressure to make the “right” one can be overwhelming. I feel like the older we get, the more weight the decisions start to hold…We’re more aware of time or the lack of it. I used to believe I could predict and control every aspect of my life, but experience has taught me otherwise. I’ve had to surrender in a lot of different areas, but that doesn’t mean I gave up. It just means that I redirected my energy to what truly matters. Letting go of the need to control has ironically given me a greater sense of control over my life. Or perhaps a better way to put it is…I feel more at peace. The more I let go, the more space I have to create something new. The less I worry about the past or future, the more I can pay attention to the present. I’m focusing on how I show up in the world…and less about things that are out of my control. Life can seem like “it is what it is”…but really, it’s what we make of it. Ultimately, it’s not about making the perfect choice, but about being true to ourselves and enjoying the journey. That’s where real peace and happiness comes from. I’m blessed to be able to share my new work with friends, colleagues, and my community. I’m proud to say that this is my fifth play. I’m honored to have had success, but this was something different. I’ve never experienced a reaction to my work like this one. For the first time many people flew in from all over the US to see the show. Folks also went out of their way to post about it and to share the show with friends and family @nicoleacardoza used her magic and generosity to purchase 35 tickets for Black women who otherwise would not be able to afford to attend. That kind of support benefits artists AND audiences. If you don’t know Nicole Cardoza’s amazing work as a magician—get it into it!!! ✨✨✨✨ Folks continue to show up and show out for this show about Black women and girls with their emails and other messages to me. I’m humbled and grateful. If you didn’t get a chance to see the show in Austin, there are two more chances in 2024. In June it opens at the @pyramidtheatre theater in Des Moines, Iowa, and in September it opens at the @lhtsf in San Francisco MY HOME MF’in Town. Come get this blessing, Fam!!!
