Held in a cocoon of roots and canopy by Horse Chestnut we gathered to ignite the Beltaine Fire 🌳 We gathered enough resources to keep our fire burning and drew on comparisons, reminding us that we too need to be resourced in order to burn brightly, too little will lead us into burn out! 🔥 We shared Nettle soup and sourdough bread, delicious protein balls, foraged tea and strawberries 🍓 We tuned in to our surroundings, listened to our bird friends who filled the air with their sweet song and we sang too 🎶 We sat with the land, and trees whilst we played with clay creating our own candle holders so that we could carry the energy of the central Beltaine fire 🪔 Beltaine Blessings 💫 #natureconnection #beltaine #beltane #celebration #celticwheel #summer #cuckoo

The first of may and we move to bealtaine on the Celtic wheel ✨🙌🧚♀️ Legend has it that the first bealtaine fire ever lit in Ireland was on top the hill of uisneach (cnoc uisneach) by the Druid Mide, marked by the stone of divisions the hill was once considered the centre point of Ireland 🇮🇪 It is said that Irelands mother Eiriu is buried beneath the stone. Bealtaine is one of four fire festivals and celebrates the change from a long winter to a fruitful summer ✨ 🔥 In ancient Ireland druids throughout the land would light two great bonfires side by side whilst reciting incantations and chanting. Cattle and other animals were then driven between the fires (not in them) as an act of cleansing, purification and protection. Some of these traditions are still practiced today with fire being a main part of the celebrations ❤️ Bealtaine marks the halfway point between the spring equinox and the summer solstice ☀️ It’s a time where fertility rites and honoring the vitality of the land. Celebrating bealtaine was crucial in ancient times as it ensured a successful harvest. Fáilte an tSamhraidh! The wheel of the year turns once more to Bealtaine (Beltane for my Scottish friends!), heralding the beginning of Summer in the Celtic calendar. Previously known as Cétasamhain (opposite of Samhain). Bealtaine is the cross quarter day marking the midway point between the spring equinox and the summer solstice. Astronomical Bealtaine is on May 5th this year. The dark half of the year has passed us, and the light is quickening, so now we rejoice in the start of the season of light and warmth. The word 'Bealtaine', still the Irish word for the month of May, originates from the Celtic God 'Bel' (also Belenus, Beli Mawr), meaning "the bright one" and the Gaelic word 'tine' / the Brythonic word "tan", both meaning "fire". Together they give us Bealtaine - Bel's Fire. We pronounce it "byal-tin-eh" in the Irish language. On this Celtic fire festival, fires were lit on hilltops to honour the sun and encourage the support of Bel so that the sun's light might nurture the Earth and its emerging future harvest, thus safeguarding the community. So, tonight I light a Bealtaine fire here at my home in the beautiful mountains of North Wales and I’ll complete my celebration on Solar Bealtaine, May 5th, this Sunday in the historic Kingdom of Meath, Ireland’s 5th province, and the ancient seat of the high kings and priestesses of Ireland. Bealtaine is represented by Ceirt, the Apple Tree. Apple is the Tree of Immortality, of the Brightening. The apple is the known as the Silver Bough, token of the Queen of the Fae. Ceirt is a healing tree and a tree of choice. Today, and until May 5th, as light fills our hearts, call on Ceirt to help you make the best choices for your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health. The earth that has lain dormant and still, is starting to pulse with life and vibrancy. Great Earth Mother! I offer up gratitude and ask for your blessings and bounty upon us this Summer.
