Practiced by filí (poet-seers) and draoithe(druids), Imbas Forosnaí was a magical process by which seekers gained enlightenment through visions; an invocation of altered states of consciousness for the purpose of achieving visionary inspiration. Put very simply, it was a ritual for obtaining second sight. Mentions of this ritual are found in early Irish texts such as the Táin Bo Cúlaigne, An Fhiannaíocht (The Fenian Cycle 2nd Century CE), Senchus Mór (the oldest surviving written Gaelic law), and the Sanas Cormaic ( Cormac’s Glossary, credited to Cormac mac Cuileannáin, king-bishop of Munster, in 908 CE.) The Sanas Cormaic describes a ritual practice of “eating red flesh“, leading some folks to believe the draoíthe used Amanita muscaria or “Fly Agaric” mushrooms for this process. The literal translation of “red flesh”, however, suggests the flesh was that of a pig, dog, or cat. The text is unclear as to whether the Irish gods were called upon to watch over the draoí seeking visions or if other draoíthe watched over him as he slept. Chanting and singing (tenm laida) were part of the ritual, as was covering the participant’s face with their hands, seeking darkness or privacy in order to receive the visions. It’s important to remember that Druids were very secretive, and guarded their practices vehemently. Theirs was an oral tradition, and therefore we do not have first hand written accounts of their practices and rituals. Though the Sanas Cormaic outlines the ritual of Imbas Forosnaí, we are not certain if it was written by Cormac mac Cuileannáin or if it is composed of others writings and compiled by him. Therefore, we must take the description of this ritual with a grain of salt. For me personally, in my own practice, I use this information as inspiration for my personal rituals involving divination and clairvoyance, but I would not go so far as to claim I’m engaging in an Irish Druidic practice. However, I feel comfortable using the phrase “Imbas Forosnaí” when speaking with ancestral spirits, to indicate the enlightenment that I seek.

The term Fairies is merely an Anglicisation for something that cannot be defined or pigeon-holed, just like the Sidhe themselves 🧚♀️🧚🧚♂️✨ The general consensus is that the fairy-world is composed of the original fairy people known as the Tuatha De Dannan or The People of the Goddess Danu. Legend has it that these were an early Irish race who were skilled in magic and able to escape the physical death of a mortal. They were, however, compelled to dwell in fairy forts. They entertained themselves by showing off their superiority over ordinary people by playing tricks on them. This tended to take place on certain times of the year such as Bealtaine (May 1st ) and Samhain (October 31st) when the veil between the human world and the fairy world is at its thinnest. La ricostruzione di due delle statue dei “guerrieri” di Entremont. Le metto per dare un’idea di cosa si sta parlando. Erano appunto personaggi esposti nei santuari celto-liguri ne sono state ritrovate altre a Roquepertuse e in oppodum vicini. Last night I had a dream about my bardic path. Yesterday I told my boyfriend about the summer solstice and how there is a gathering of Druids that go to Stonehenge for the summer solstice and how badly I’ve always wanted to go or be a part of before I learned of OBOD. It was a really nice conversation that made me realize why I became a Druid in the first place. It was a really nice reminder especially after Beltane. I was in charge along with my friend to write our pagan church group the ritual for Beltane. Little did we both know that we would be in charge of the whole thing and was told the incorrect start time for the gathering. My mentor started things when we weren’t ready and the ritual felt rushed and didn’t feel genuine. The people gathered for the most part looked annoyed of even being there. It rained during the ritual and mostly everyone cleared out in the middle with my mentor leading them away. My friend and I felt really sad and frustrated. But the rain cleared out “bad energy” and helped reset the Brenton of the ritual. Some good people stayed and reassured us to continue. That we don’t need the majority to continue. Frankly it was quite rude to leave in the middle of the ritual to go eat our feast due to a short rain spell. My friend and I continued the ritual and danced the Maypole. And even though the ritual was done we both felt in our hearts that we weren’t satisfied with how it felt. That we felt obligated to finish the ritual because the people came back. Last night similar to my bardic lessons, I was in my inner circle when a Druid approached me and told me to not forget the reason why I’m on my path and not lose the whimsical joy in my heart. I’ve probably wondered that. 🐐 Well, we needn’t wonder no longer, cuz these druids are totally industrial and this is totally Wicker Man but in a factory instead of an island, with 90s performance artists “transgressively” sacrificing goats and shit. I hope those goats are fake. 🐐 The main dude starts dating a new girl at his job. She asks him to investigate a mysterious death. She suspects the local Druids might be responsible. 🐐 But then the local Druids are paying her to get the pregnant from him. He has caught feelings, perhaps too quickly, and on discovering this plot is seized by emotions. 🐐 Now, look, I’m as sentimental as the next guy, but my main concern would honestly be WHY ARE THE LOCAL DRUIDS PAYING A LADY TO GET THE PREGNANT FROM ME. I might also jump on an airplane. Not this guy. He is a romantic at heart. 🐐 There’s lots of investigating and they save the freaky stuff for the end. But unlike Wicker Man any time the Druids start chasing him they play soft 90s Industrial music. 🐐 Pretty soon Eric doesn’t know who he can trust and at any time one of his allies might suddenly turn around and be wearing black eye makeup.
