Tag 1 unseres Experimentes Radreise „light“, sprich mit trockenem Dach überm Kopf, kuscheligem Bett und einer heißen Dusche. Out put der ersten Tages 112km auf dem Rheinradweg von Kronau nach Nierstein. Die ersten 80km fanden wir die Strecke eher bescheiden, zu viel Infrastruktur zu wenig Natur. Dank diverser Regenschauer und matschiger Wege sahen wir obendrein auch noch aus wie zwei Schweinchen. Dann gab’s noch den ersten Platten, zufälligerweise direkt vor einem Café. Und tatsächlich war das der Punkt an dem die ganze Angelegenheit anfing Spaß zu machen. Also zwei Cappuccino und einmal Reifen wechseln später wurden die Dörfer kleiner und schöner, der Radweg wurde endlich von Natur gesäumt und zu guter Letzt hat sich auch die Sonne gezeigt. Motto dieser Micro Reise „we ride for pizza“ Day 1 of our bikepacking tour „light“, means with a dry roof over your head, a cosy bed and a hot shower. Out put of the first day 112km on the Rhine cycle path from Kronau to Nierstein. For us the first 80 kilometres of the route weren’t that nice, too much infrastructure and too little nature. Thanks to some rain showers and muddy paths, we also looked like two little pigs. Then there was the first flat tyre, luckily right in front of a café. But this was actually the point when the whole thing started to be fun. So two cappuccinos and one tyre change later, the villages became smaller and more beautiful, the cycle path was finally surrounded by nature and finally the sun made it out. Mayak eggs are so freakin’ delicious, and you probably have everything you need to make them in the house right now! 1 Soft-boil some eggs, up to six. Peel and let cool. 2 Mix equal parts soy sauce and water, half part sugar (or honey), a clove or two of garlic, white or green onion, sesame seeds, and something spicy (jalapeño slices, or chili pepper, or sriracha, or red pepper flakes) in a bowl or tupperware. 3 Submerge eggs and refrigerate for 24-48 hours (remove from marinade after that so they don’t get rubbery.) Congrats, you’ve now got savory, sweet, rich umami marinated eggs! They were the ones who came in looking for something different: the unique varietals, the unusual blends, the wines from off-the-beaten-path regions. They were eager to learn, and eager to find bottles that worked well with food. Sorry, oaky chardonnay - I love you at times, but with my meal is not one of them. ☺️ This is a Verdeca, which is a native grape of Puglia, Italy. It drinks like a Pinot Grigio, but with a little more oomph and minerality. While it isn't the most amazing wine I've ever tasted, it's clean and fresh and would pair nicely with most of this spring's lighter fare. $15-ish. Would you try fried grasshoppers? I tried them at a festival in Japan. The vendor told me, "Hold out your hand" and then he plopped a spoonful of fresh fried grasshoppers in my palm. They were cooked in soy sauce and butter and were surprisingly sweet. It was hard to get past the look of them. I had to disconnect my mind from what I was eating, but once I got past that, they were actually enjoyable. Carrot cake inspired Banana bread 🥕🍌 *GF & VG* I made a promise to myself to start finding my love for baking again. I thoroughly enjoyed doing my Food tech GCSE using low protein recipes but now I am fortunate my diet has changed so I no longer use LP flour. However I needed to be experimental with new GF recipes… I decided to make my favourite type of cake 🍰 but as a banana bread!! Fun fact… I hate bananas but tried banana bread once in AUS and liked it so I thought it was worth a try 😎 Let’s just say I impressed myself, everyone at work loved it & even my supervisor was impressed at uni so safe to say I haven’t lost it💪🏼 it was so nice to be able to share my passion with everyone and be able to eat it too!
