Are you that person that reads about success and thinks that it doesn’t apply to you? I was. I felt different to all the people I read about. Separate somehow. Not me! When they talk about these successful lives they mean other people. I think it was to do with my background and my very humble beginnings. Or maybe just never really fitting in. Or being told throughout my childhood by bullies that I was worthless. But I’d find logical ways to prove to myself that it wasn’t for me. Evidence to back up my feelings of not being good enough. This allowed me to think for a large part of my life that I shouldn’t even try to become successful. I was different to these successful people. When people said ‘if I can do it then you can too’ they didn’t mean me. They meant people like them. Until I realised I was bored of hearing my own bullshit. And that actually if I didn’t try then there was only going to be one person to blame and that was me. So I ignored all of my own negative voices and gave it a go. I learned, studied, worked really hard and didn’t give up when things went wrong and those voices got even louder. And 8 years later here I am, financially free earning millions a year and loving the work that I get to do every day. In a position to make choices about what I do and when. Being able to spend so much time with my kids, family and friends and really feel like I’m making a difference to people’s lives. And so although the phrase is getting some bad press at the moment, when I tell you that if I can, you can too; I mean it. And yes I mean you. Not everyone else. But only you have the power to decide to stop telling yourself success isn’t meant for you and to realise that it absolutely is. Confidence is something I have always struggled with. I never felt good enough, pretty enough, skinny enough, smart enough or funny enough. I was painfully shy to the point that I dropped out of college because I was required to take a public speaking class. Confidence did not come naturally to me, but it is something that I learned. By stepping out of my comfort zone and doing things that made me uncomfortable, I realized I could do hard things. I could conquer fears and break barriers that had been holding me back for years.
