🆃🆆🅴🅽🆃🅴🅿🅰🅳 Hij stond al lang op mijn lijstje en eindelijk was het zo ver, het wandelen van het Twentepad. Tassen ingepakt, de etappes ingedeeld en drie dagen al wandelend door de Twentse natuur. Het Twentepad is een grote ronde van +/- 95km, onderverdeeld in 5 etappes. Ideaal dus want dan heb je hetzelfde start en eindpunt😁 Inmiddels kan ik wel zeggen dat het van Tim en mij een traditie is om met het Pinksterweekend een meerdaagse hike te wandelen. Dus vrijdags tijdig samen in de auto richting Oldenzaal om daar onze tocht te beginnen. En die begon zeer mooi, rondom het Hulsbeek…. daar was dan in mijn optiek ook alles mee gezegd. Na 6km was het veel van hetzelfde. Ruilverkaveling, zandpaden, sloot en beekkanten wisselden zich af. Lange rechte kilometers met weinig afwisseling. Uiteindelijk na 38km, vlak voor Tubbergen, kwamen wij bij onze paal aan waar we overnachten. Wel echt super dat je in Twente nog kan paalkamperen!⛺ Dag twee vroeg opgestaan om via Tubbergen naar de Duitse grens te wandelen om vervolgens te eindigen in Ootmarsum. De eerste 11km qua omgeving wederom veel herhaling van de eerste wandeldag. Daarna werden we gelukkig getrakteerd op mooie natuur. Heidevelden, bossen, single tracks en beekdalen wisselden elkaar af. Na 29km eindigden we moe en voldaan op de boeren camping net aan de andere kant van het dorp. Dag drie was het letterlijk vroeg uit de veren🐓en maakte wij ons op voor de laatste 25km van Ootmarsum terug naar Oldenzaal. Helaas werd het wegens omstandigheden een enkeltje naar de bushalte/auto. Toch nog 5 wandel kilometers in totaal😅 Al met al twee prima wandeldagen gehad, heel wat muggenbulten rijker en 72km in de benen. Maar ook een illusie armer… of ik had te hoge verwachtingen, of het Twentepad valt (in mijn optiek) toch best tegen. Binnenkort zeker weer terug, want de route gaat natuurlijk wel uitgelopen worden😉 Dus 🔜 Ootmarsum >>> Oldenzaal, 25km. Mostly, I'm supporting my elderly parents in Scotland these days, as my Dad has dementia. Dad is 88 years young and thinks I'm 28. I'll take it, and he is actually 88. A leap year, baby,in fact. Mostly, dementia, for us personally, is more challenging for us carers than it is for the diagnosed person. It's particularly tough on my mum at times. It's easier for me as I don't have 60 years of being married to him to contend with. To be fair, it's a privilege to be with them both. And, it's the cycle of life, right? Just imagine for a moment the patterns of communication that have been formed over that time between them both and then, almost overnight, new ways of speaking, listening, and doing need to come into play. It's bonkers and stretching. Mostly, my Dad lives in a dream world, and, as a result, he lives in the moment and has various things that are stuck like a broken record. For him, for now, anyway, it's upcoming appointments. We tell him, kindly, we write it down, clearly, we remind him, often, and still he is unable to retain the information. It can be frustrating, especially for mum. On a lighter note, he recently attended hospital for a few days and when he arrived back in the ambulance, with ambulance staff, he thought he'd been on a cruise and he thanked the captain (driver) for a wonderful time. I'd say that's a big win. I wish every time Im in a hospital, I too think I've been cruising in the med and fishing with the captain 😆 Anyway, there's a couple of photos of him in the sunshine with my shades on, and then a few photos of me on the days off I've had, for self care. Of course, I went swimming and walking in the sunshine. No, really, you must believe me, I did actually go 😆 Now go and give a big squeeze to those people you love, cos life can surely turn on a sixpence and you'll not likely see it coming. Two rainy 🌧️ winters in a row after a drought have led to a gorgeous spring of wildflowers 🌸 🌺 🌼 in Southern California. Today, I hiked the Chumash Trail into La Jolla Valley near Ventura, California. The trails were massively overgrown and I needed a GPS just to stay on the trail. Great little 200km around 4 counties. I spend so much time jetting off to get chased by dogs in countries with little to no cycling infrastructure, I overlook how beautiful the land on my doorstep is. Lost count of how many cyclists waved and shouted hello.
