Sometimes I know exactly who I am and what I want from life. Sometimes I have no idea. Somewhere along the way I picked up the pieces that remained after abandonment, a failed first marriage, and loss of faith in myself and my abilities. It was a long, slow process to take those pieces and chip away at the broken and corroded parts and then build and reform them into what and who I am today. There are times I still find I need to go back and reshape those pieces so they fit a bit better with my thoughts, values, expectations and future goals. Growth. If we don’t grow we become stagnate. When we become stagnate we aren’t healthy - not mentally, physically nor emotionally. It’s difficult to leave the past in the past at times, but I’ve come to learn that I left it there for a reason and it is always wise to remember why I left it. I love who I am, who I’ve become, and I’m proud of the woman I once was for recognizing who she was should not and could not be end game. I want more from life than what she was willing to accept. FIND YOUR HAPPY. In a world where the cost of living is at an all time high, and with the overall number of people reporting mental health problems having risen in recent years, I wanted to explore how people are living, and if they are ‘LIVING’ at all? What drives peoples lifestyle or career choices, do financial constraints or moral values play a part? What influences people to stay within the safety of their ‘box’ or have the courage to step outside of their comfort zone, and ultimately do the pressures of society contribute to the mental health crisis? These are just a few of the questions I posed to the public via a questionnaire. Out of all the responses, I focused on four very different individuals and explored their careers, values, hobbies, and motivations in more detail. There are multiple aspects to project, I have combined digital images with double exposure techniques manipulated in Photoshop and Ai. These are the double exposure images of the 4 participants, that will be exhibited from next week at the @openeyegallery Along side more images of each individual. More previews to come.
