I'm getting ready to speak at a library about the historical event that inspired my novel, #DrawnbytheCurrent: the #EastlandDisaster of 1915, which took place in the Chicago River. I'm pretty excited about these boarding pass cards I made to pass out to all the guests! Each one has a story on the back side of a real person who boarded the Eastland that fateful day in July. At the end of the program, I'll reveal which of these dear souls survived that day and which didn't. My goal is just to make the event more personal so we don't glaze over at the numbers. *I was inspired to do this by a Titanic exhibit I once visited. Have you ever been to a Titanic museum/exhibit? There is a big one happening near Chicago right now, and the Eastland Disaster has some space inside the museum to showcase that little known story! --If you're new here and haven't heard me explain this before (and you haven't Googled it yet), the Eastland Disaster refers to the steamship, SS Eastland, which was holding 2500 passengers. While still tied to the dock, on July 24, 1915, the ship rolled onto its side, and 844 people lost their lives. #bookstagram #TheWindyCitySaga #JocelynGreen #historicalfiction #authorevent #christianfiction #bhpfiction

Today's #FridayFeature is a #Repost from @laura.botten and her kitty Luna! :) ... One of the reasons I love historical fiction so much is that it revives forgotten moments in history. Take Drawn by the Current by @author_jocelyn_green for example. The story begins with two friends boarding The Eastland, a ship docking in Chicago headed to Michigan in 1915.🚢 The ship capsizes before even setting sail, in part - ironically - due to the added weight of the life boats that were added in the wake of the Titanic disaster. Hundreds of people died in the tragedy, and as a Chicagoan myself, I couldn't believe that I wasn't aware of this tragedy in my city's history. The main character Olive is an insurance investigator, now tasked with processing life insurance claims, while also searching for missing persons who may have died on the ship. Her friend Claire, however, wants to die.💔 She's desperately trying to escape an abusive marriage, and the Eastland's capsizing is just the opportunity for Claire to "die" ... and reinvent herself complete with a new name and everything. This book was INCREDIBLE. I didn't realize it was the third in a series: the Windy City Saga. You bet your ass I'll be reading the first two books in this amazing series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ QOTD: Do you like being on boats/ships?? Do you get seasick? Are you scared of going underwater? (I am!!) Luna couldn't wait for me to finish this book so that she could get her paws on it!! 🐾😹 #bookstagram #drawnbythecurrent #amreading #historicalfiction #historicalfictionbooks #chicagohistory #chicagobooks #chicagobookstagram #amreadingfiction #thewindycitysaga #jocelyngreen #booksyoushouldread #incrediblebook #chicagoauthor #bookstagramlife #catsandbooks #booksandcats #cleanreads #cleanromance #cleanromancenovels #amreadingromance #booksforwomen #booksbywomen #booksabouthistory #eastland #eastlanddisaster #shipwrecks

Have you read this series yet? It starts out with two sisters who are taking care of their dad who was in the Civil War. While taking care of him, they live through the Great Fire of Chicago. The next book takes place during the World's Fair in Chicago, and deals with an adoptive daughter finding her place. This one in particular spoke to me as an adoptive mom. The third book taught me about the SS Eastland, which I had never before heard about. Do you know about this ship? It sank while still tied to the dock, and 844 people lost their lives. It was HEARTBREAKING to read about. Amidst all of these things, Jocelyn Green weaves in suspense, mystery, and Christianity. If you haven't read this series yet, you seriously need to. What have you learned about by reading fiction? @author_jocelyn_green #drawnbythecurrent #windycitysaga #bookseries #christianfiction #sseastland #tragedy #chicagofire #theworldsfair #christianauthor @bethanyhousefiction #bethanyhouse

I finished this one a few weeks ago. I’m a little behind in posting. This was an interesting conclusion to the trilogy. Claire’s story is just awful and I hated everything she went through. Olive is such a good friend and the fact she worked for an insurance company was interesting. My grandpa was VP of The Hartford Insurance Company so I thought that aspect was interesting. And having the hero be a photographer was also neat. The suspense and drama in this one was ideal. Really a great story. (But Sophie’s is still my favorite and I’m happy I got to see her in this one). Two more books by Jocelyn Green left and I’ll have read all of hers. She’s becoming one of my favorites. #jocelyngreen #drawnbythecurrent #bookstagram #booklove #bookworm #audiobooks

🌊Drawn by the Current by Jocelyn Green🌊 . The third book in the Windy City Saga by @author_jocelyn_green was a beautiful story and perfect ending to the series. I've really enjoyed learning the history of Chicago and following Meg and Sylvie's family through the years. . While possible to read as a stand alone, I recommend starting with book 1, Veiled in Smoke. . Another book checked off my #backlistbooks23 #drawnbythecurrent

Jocelyn Green inspires faith and courage as the award-winning and bestselling author of 20 works of fiction and nonfiction, including her historical fiction trilogy, The Windy City Saga, a series set in Chicago during three of the city’s most seminal events. The final book in this trilogy, Drawn by the Current, focuses on the Eastland Disaster. This book will be the center of a program on Friday, September 1, 2:00 p.m. at the Chicago Maritime Museum. Copies of Drawn by the Current are now available at the Museum store. Reserve your copy today and enjoy Ms. Green's invitation to reserve your seat (limited seating) at this program with her tour group. The EDHS adult-oriented program will answer the following questions: Why was the picnic so highly anticipated? What happened? How did it happen? What was the impact? What was the response? Was it avoidable? Who was held accountable? What damages were awarded? What amount of relief funds were raised? And what does an author do with that history in the making of a novel? The program will include time for Q&A as well as the opportunity to have your copy of Drawn by the Current signed by the author.  After the program, members may stay after hours to review The Eastland Disaster Exhibit which honors those who perished in the catastrophe with a photo montage memorial wall. The exhibit also features a dive suit used as part of the recovery effort. In addition, on loan from the EDHS, are personal belongings of passengers including a wallet, a pocket watch, and a dollar bill. Today is the 108th anniversary of the #EastlandDisaster, which was the historical event my novel #DrawnbytheCurrent revolves around. (For those unfamiliar: on July 24, 1915, the steamship SS Eastland tipped over in the Chicago River while still tied to the docks. It held 2500 people on their way to a picnic in Michigan City, Indiana. 844 of them lost their lives.) Last week, I altered my route home from the Columbus Book Festival so I could spend more time in Michigan City. I was too early for their remembrance service by five days, but I held my own in my heart. I knew the Old Lighthouse Museum Michigan City Historical Society had added a hard surface walkway beneath the complete length of the anchor chain memorial, so I went there to see it. What I didn't expect was to see the benches behind the lighthouse. Look at the inscription on the one dedicated to the memory of Anna Kubiak. This young woman died on the Eastland, four days after her 17th birthday. Oh, my heart. Hers is just one story, represented by just one link in that memorial anchor chain of 844 links. I look at that empty park bench engraved with Anna's name and imagine an empty bench for all 844 victims, and the magnitude of loss represented by all that emptiness staggers me. Just as it should. Drawn by the Current Windy Sage #3 Jocelyn Green Wagon Wheel rating 4 Blurb: A birthday excursion turns deadly when the SS Eastland capsizes with Olive Pierce and her best friend Claire on board. Hundreds perish during the accident, and it's only when Olive herself barely escapes that she discovers her friend is among the victims. In the aftermath of the tragedy, Olive returns to her work at an insurance agency and is soon caught up in the countless investigations related to the accident. But with so many missing, there are few open-and-shut cases, and she tries to balance her grief with the hard work of finding the truth. Is she just overwhelmed, or is someone trying to impede her investigations? When clues surface that impact those closest to her, how deep will she dig? Newspaper photographer Erik Magnussen begins helping Olive with her cases, and they develop a fast friendship. Just when Olive begins to unravel the secrets, more setbacks arise. It will take everything she's got to find the truth and stay ahead of those who want to sabotage her progress. Review: The last book in the Windy City Saga brings us the story of Olive, Meg’s daughter. I am always amazed at the historical detail author Jocelyn Green puts in her books. I had never heard of the S.S. Eastland and the disaster that followed. I ended up Googling more about the incident. The romance in the book weaved well with the story. Readers who love a story of danger and romance will love this book. . . @author_jocelyn_green #bookreview #drawnbythecurrent #jocelyngreen #readerofromance #christianfictionreaders #romancereaders #writerofromance #acfwcommunity #momwriter #writerofromance #reader #christianwriter

Saturday, I stopped in Michigan City, Indiana, on my way home from the Fiction Readers Summit. I pulled up to the parking attendant for Washington Park Beach. “I’m looking for any kind of Eastland Disaster memorial,” I told him. “I have no idea what you’re talking about,” he said. So I told him what you already know if you’ve read my novel, #DrawnbytheCurrent. On July 24, 1915, the SS Eastland tipped over in the Chicago River while still tied to the dock. 844 people lost their lives. Their destination had been Washington Park Beach in Michigan City, Indiana for their annual picnic with fellow Western Electric employees. “Huh,” said the parking attendant as he took my money and waved me through. The weather was in the 50s, with a wind that cut right through my clothes. The beach was empty. I found myself thinking of this empty beach and the empty park behind it as it must have been on July 24, 1915. More than 7000 employees had been slated to fill these spaces that day. There were going to be picnics, foot-races, ice cream, baseball, swimming, dancing. It would have been the highlight of their year. But the Eastland and other chartered ships never came. Saturday, I was really cold by Lake Michigan, so I walked fast. Then I told myself to slow down. To stop, even though my ears hurt from the cold and the wind pulled my hair in all directions. Remembering tragedy isn’t supposed to be comfortable. So I remembered, and it hurt, and that is exactly as it should be. Soon, I found the Old Lighthouse Museum and the memorial to the #EastlandDisaster. (See pics.) Visiting the beach, park, and lighthouse was such a meaningful experience for me. I wrote about those who died and those who survived in Drawn by the Current. The novel won an award, I’ve released another novel, and I’m about to turn in another one. But even though the wheels of the publishing industry keep turning, I don’t think I’ll ever move on from the Eastland Disaster. It will always hold a special place in my heart. I'm grateful for the work of the Old Lighthouse Museum and the @eastlanddisaster Historical Society.

Happy Sunday friends! 🌻 Mom and I stopped by the site of the Eastland Disaster yesterday, but I felt it deserved it’s own post. These photos show exactly where it happened. I had no idea the Eastland Disaster had ever happened until I read Drawn by the Current, book 3 in @author_jocelyn_green‘s Windy City Saga! The research she put into the book (and whole trilogy) are amazing! The Eastland was still tied to the dock when it rolled and killed over 800 people, more than the Titanic, and not many people know about it. When my Mom and I went on the river cruise we went along the Chicago River and passed the site a few different times with no mention of it at all by the tour guide. This plaque is the only thing we saw that even mentioned it! It’s a tragic event that happened in our own country and I feel deserves to be known about. If you want more information I definitely suggest checking out Jocelyn’s books! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND reading The Windy City Saga (book 1 is Veiled in Smoke) the entire series is phenomenal and I’ll for sure be rereading! Thank you again Jocelyn for such an incredible weekend! #happyreading #bookstagram #bookworm #currentlyreading #worldsfairchristmas #jocelyngreen #drawnbythecurrent #thewindycitysaga #bhpfiction #bethanyhousepublishers #theeastlanddisaster #theeastland #eastlanddisaster #christianfiction #historicalfiction @bethanyhousefiction

Happy Saturday friends! 🌻 Today we had a bus tour of the city and got to stop at some wonderful places! We also stopped by the site of the Eastland Disaster (future post on that coming soon) which is in the third book of @author_jocelyn_green‘s Windy City Saga: Drawn by the Current. (I felt a little weird smiling at the monument because it was such a tragedy, but there it is.) Then we went to The Nutcracker, which was absolutely FABULOUS! 😍😍😍😍 My Mom and I go every year and always love it! But this one was so special, being in Chicago, but also because the setting was the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago, which is all in Jocelyn’s second book in the saga: Shadows of the White City! It was so amazing! We then had a reenactment from Bertha Palmer, which was absolutely incredible! A super amazing weekend thanks to Jocelyn! 💕 Then Mom took me out one last time to a roof top view and it was spectacular! 😍 #happyreading #bookstagram #bookworm #currentlyreading #worldsfairchristmas #jocelyngreen #drawnbythecurrent #thewindycitysaga

Happy Friday friends! 🌻 Mom and I are having THE BEST time in Chicago! 🥰🥰🥰🥰 I got my love of reading from her and we both read @author_jocelyn_green‘s books, so this trip is just so amazing and extra wonderful with how the books are really coming to life! Jocelyn has put on the most wonderful World’s Fair Christmas in Chicago weekend for us and she is absolutely delightful! We got to have book club with her this morning to discuss one of the greatest trilogies ever, The Windy City Saga! Then we had an amazing Jane Addams of Hull House reenactment! Mom and I LOVED it! My Mom has a Hull House book and I was Jane Addams in my 5th grade wax museum, so it was so amazing seeing her brought to life and learning even more! 💕 We got to tour Marshall Field’s (now Macy’s) and that was incredible! (Another post coming on that later!) We ate at the beautiful Walnut Room with the most gorgeous Christmas tree! We stopped at the Christkindlmarket for some hot cocoa! We’ll be returning later for some shopping! 💕 Then we ended the evening with an architectural river cruise...in December...we were very bundled up! 😂 it was amazing! Such incredible architecture in this amazing city! Such a wonderful trip and we’re only halfway through! 🥰 #happyreading #bookstagram #bookworm #currentlyreading #jocelyngreen #thewindycitysaga #veiledinsmoke #shadowsofthewhitecity #drawnbythecurrent #worldsfairchristmas #janeaddams #hullhouse #bhpfiction #bethanyhousepublishers @bethanyhousefiction

Drawn by the Current was an incredible close to such a great series, The Windy City Saga, by Jocelyn Green. This is a book I will no doubt read again! This book takes place in 1915. The main character, Olive, happens to be aboard the Eastland when it goes down 20 feet from the shore. What a horrible disaster! As someone who reads a lot of shipwreck books, this is one I knew nothing about. The mysteries in the plot had me guessing the whole way through. All the historical details were fascinating. This was one of the best books I’ve read in a long time! #jocelyngreenauthor #jocelyngreen #windycitysaga #drawnbythecurrent

Are you a #Sherlock fan? If you've read my latest novel #DrawnbytheCurrent, you know that Olive and Erik are big fans of #SherlockHolmes. It was a pleasure to read a bunch of Sherlock stories and novels while writing that book. So last week when my family and I traveled to London, we visited the Sherlock Holmes Museum at 221B Baker Street. Every detail inside was carefully arranged to reflect Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's descriptions. What fun! 🎉DRAWN BY THE CURRENT by Jocelyn Green🎉 Set in 1910s Chicago, Olive has survived a boating accident that has left hundreds dead including her best friend. As an insurance agent, her job is to investigate the accident while balancing finding out the truth about what really happened. Olive soon learns that what she thought isn't what really happened. Ever since discovering Jocelyn Green's writing, she has become one of my must read authors. She blends historical fact with fiction so well by bringing to life the past and the stories that have been forgotten. I love rediscovering the history and as a history major, this kind of historical fiction makes my heart happy. While this is the third book in the Windy City Saga, it can be read completely on its own. #bookreview #DrawnByTheCurrent #JocelynGreen #BethanyHouse #BHPFiction #christianfiction #historicalfiction #inspirationalfiction #bookstagram #libraryreads #readersofinstagram #storiessetinchicago #booknerd #bookworm #booksarelife #historicalfictionlover

Drawn by the Current is the third and final book in The Windy Saga Series. I first discovered @author_jocelyn_green when I read Veiled in Smoke and I’ve been a fan ever since. I appreciate her attention to historical details and the series has been an interesting look at some historical events from the city of Chicago. This book takes a look at an event from 1915 when a passenger ship called the SS Eastland rolled on its side while tied to the dock in the Chicago river, killing over eight hundred people. : In each of these books, the historical event is told through the lives of the Townsend family. In Drawn by the Current, we meet Olive and her best friend Claire. The Townsend family has owned a bookstore in Chicago for sixty five years and in each of these books there is an author of the time who is featured prominently in the storyline. In this book, LM Montgomery and her books play a prominent role as Anne of the Island has just released and Olive and Claire love her writing as much as I do. : I’ve enjoyed all three of these books, but I think Olive may be my favorite character and is definitely a kindred spirit. It was also interesting to learn about an event from history that I was unfamiliar with. : : Description: A birthday excursion turns deadly when the SS Eastland capsizes with Olive Pierce and her best friend on board. Hundreds perish during the accident, and it's only when Olive herself barely escapes that she discovers her friend is among the victims. In the aftermath of the tragedy, Olive returns to her work at a Chicago insurance agency and is immersed in the countless investigations related to the accident. But with so many missing, there are few open-and-shut cases, and she tries to balance her grief with the hard work of finding the truth. While someone sabotages her progress, Olive accepts the help of newspaper photographer Erik Magnussen. As they unravel secrets, the truths they discover impact those closest to Olive. How long will the disaster haunt her--and how can she help the others find the peace they deserve? : : The other two books feature The Great Chicago Fire and the Chicago World’s Fair and each have a mystery to be solved.

Drawn by the Current by Jocelyn Green Thank you to Bethany House Fiction for this gifted copy in exchange for an honest review. This is the third book in The Windy City Saga but can be read as a stand-alone. A birthday trip turns deadly when the SS Eastland capsizes on the Chicago River with Olive and her best friend Claire on board. After the tragedy, Olive returns to work as an insurance agent and is caught up with the many investigations related to the accident. Olive begins to sense something fishy is going on with some of the cases and missing people. She gathers clues and uncovers secrets, but setbacks arise and Olive senses someone is sabotaging her investigation. I loved this book. I hadn’t heard about this series until I received this book in the mail and now I want to go back and read the first two in this series. I’m also ashamed to say I had no knowledge of the SS Eastland which took more lives than the Titanic. This story was fast paced, exciting, had mystery and historical elements and was all around an engaging story. I read it in a day! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ What’s the last book you read in a day? #bhpfiction #drawnbythecurrent #windycitysaga #reading #booknerd #booksofinstagram #bookclub #readingtime #bookphoto #readabook #totalbooknerd #getlit #bookrecommendations #greatreads #iread #fortheloveofreading #booksaremagic #idratherbereading #currentreads #booksarelove #momswhoread #bookblog #goodreads #bookblogging #booknerdigans #booksofinsta #ireadbooks #bookstagram

📚 Anyone else adore a novel that seamlessly weaves fact with fiction? Allow me to thoroughly recommend Drawn by the Current by Jocelyn Green… here’s my review: 🌊 Set in 1915 Chicago as the third book in the Windy City Saga, this fascinating historical fiction is a gripping journey of sacrifice, secrets, and survival. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When insurance agent Olive Pierce invites her best friend on a celebratory excursion aboard the S.S. Eastland, she has no idea it will end in a tragedy of epic proportion. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌊 As she recovers from the trauma of being one of the survivors after seeing so many perish, Olive immerses herself in working the insurance cases for families of the lost— ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ and in the process meets Erik Magnussen, a kindhearted newspaper photographer with secrets of his own. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌊 Based on true historical events, this delightful mix of mystery, intrigue, and romance is immaculately researched and brimming with detail. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It can absolutely be read as a stand-alone title, although now I'm curious to go back and read the other books in the series! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🤓 If you’re a historical fiction fan, you may need to check this one out. And feel free to leave a recommendation in the comments… we love that! 📚 #drawnbythecurrent #authorssupportingauthors

5-Star Review! Drawn by the Current by @author_jocelyn_green is the third and final book of the Windy City Saga and in my opinion, it was far and away the best. While it does contain characters from the first two books, this one could easily be read on its own. Drawn By the Current tells the story of the Eastland Steamship disaster, a little-known event where a Chicago river steamship capsized while still at the pier, taking the lives of 844 people. These were men, women, and children all off to take a company picnic holiday with no idea that they would never make it to the party. Within this real-life tragedy, Jocelyn Green paints the picture of the fictional Olive Pierce, an insurance agent who first, loses her dearest friend in the disaster, and then must help the victims' families claim benefits and find closure. In the process, however, she is drawn into a web of missing persons, mistaken identities, and sabotage, all while dealing with the aftermath of her own trauma. It is not until she accepts the help of photographer, Erik Magnussen, with the investigations, that she believes she may be able to find peace at last. Jocelyn Green is a wonder with the written word and is able to create such wonderful settings that really draw you into the scene. I held my breath with Olive as she fought to escape the sinking ship. I grieved with the families she talked to, especially one whose mother's body remained missing. And there were several moments that I truly didn't see coming. The story contains many delicate matters from grief to PTSD to domestic abuse, but Jocelyn handles them all with the utmost care. It's a truly wonderful tale and highly recommended. Have you read Drawn By the Current? Drawn by the Current takes us back to one of the worst maritime disasters in U.S. history and also reminds us of the plight of women in those days. Be sure to check out the new novel, Drawn by the Current, by @author_jocelyn_green. Set in Chicago in 1915, the story revolves around the historic Eastland Disaster. Jun Fujita, who famously photographed the event for the Chicago Evening Post, makes several appearances in the narrative. “Jun Fujita's photos were instrumental in my research, and I enjoyed learning about him, too,” says Green. “I was and am so impressed with all he accomplished with his work that spanned decades of important history. He seemed to me to be a true professional with keen insight into the human experience, able to capture images with clarity, compassion, and conviction. I admire him greatly.” I can’t wait to read it. #DrawnbytheCurrent  #historicalfiction #maritimehistory #readmorebooks #TheWindyCitySaga  #Chicago  #chicagofiction  #chicagohistory  #bookstagram  #bookreview  #bhpfiction  #readabook  #read  #booknerd  #bookworm #junfujita #fujitabehindthecamera #betweenthecovers #books #mystery @eastlanddisaster

What a nice way to start a Monday morning--so grateful for this review from Seattle Book Reviews: " #DrawnbytheCurrent is a tenderly written novel about the strengths and setbacks associated with being a woman in 1915. The storyline is gripping, and every detail is exquisitely rendered, showing both Green’s attention and her research." 👉 I would add that it isn't just a story about being a woman in 1915--it's a story about the #EastlandDisaster--Chicago's largest loss-of-life tragedy-- its aftermath, and the light and hope that remains. 💙 👉 Do you like learning about historical events through novels? Drawn by the Current by Jocelyn Green is the sweeping fictionalized story of the SS Eastland. I really enjoyed the story of the steamboat that tipped over in Lake Michigan. Book Review Published February 2022 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a very enjoyable book to read. It is the 3rd book in a series and since I haven't read the other two, I can attest it reads very nicely as a standalone. The cover drew me in and the story kept me interested. It had good pacing, engaging characters and is based on the real life tragedy of the Eastland disaster on the Chicago river. Swipe to see thehistorical picture. “Your value comes from a much deeper place than who your employer is. You were made in the image of God, and who you are is bigger than what you do.” Jocelyn Green is an amazing author who accurately relates historical events while conveying solid truth in an unforgettable novel. Drawn by the Current is the third and final book of The Windy City Saga which tells the story of one Chicago family from the Chicago fire through the sinking of the SS Eastland. While Green gives enough background for Drawn by the Current to stand alone, the book is so much richer with the memories of the previous novels. I enjoyed seeing old friends Sylvie, Kristof, and Meg again. The personalities of those three have matured and wrap the reader in the comfort of older, wise, and loved confidantes. Olive fights many of the battles of a modern woman, yet fits within her era. She is a nurturer at heart, finding meaning in life as she helps others. She works at a life insurance company, and wishes to advance, but her boss feels women cannot use their brains. Olive deals with domestic abuse, PTSD, and loyalty. She desperately searches for the truth while concealing secrets of her own. I wholly identified with Olive when she at last learns a great lesson about herself and how God sees her. Erik is charming through and through. I loved how he takes so much time out of his life to help Olive with her searches. He is so brave to protect Olive. Yet, he doesn’t protect her heart. A historical novel of great depth, plumbing what it means to survive physically, emotionally, and spiritually. For the keeper shelf. I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher through NetGalley. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own. #jocelyngreen #bethanyhousepublishers #sagaofthewindycity #drawnbythecurrent #sseastlanddisaster? #amreadingcf? #netgalley

Do you #journal? ✍️ I’ve always enjoyed it, but I’ve been immersed in it since my grandpa passed away. Journaling takes a chunk out of my #reading time, but it’s what I need right now. Hence, #JocelynGreen’s newest novel, Drawn By The Current is still in my #tbr. 📚 . . . . #journaling #journalingcommunity #journalcommunity #bookflatlay #DrawnByTheCurrent #BHPFiction #HistoricalFiction #CoverLove #BooksToRead #ILoveJournaling #ILoveReading #INeedMoreTime #BooksBooksBooks #ReadMore #readingtime #Flatlay #SoManyBooksSoLittleTime #flatlaystyle #BookCommunity #Bookstagram #ReadersOfInstagram #ChristianBookstagram #JournalingTherapy #TherapyJournaling #BooksOfIG #ChristianFiction

Thank you for the gifted book @author_jocelyn_green I love when historical fiction brings attention to history I'm not familiar with. In this case, the book centers around the tragedy of the SS Eastland, a ship that turned over in the Chicago River on July 24, 1915, killing 844 people.  The protagonist, Olive Pierce and her best friend are on board. Olive survives the tragedy and returns to her job working for MetLife Insurance with the goal of processing claims as quickly as possible for grieving families. So many passengers are still missing, including Olive's friend, that extra investigation is required; all the while, someone is sabotaging her work.  This is book 3 in The Windy City Saga, but the first book I've read by this author. It definitely works as a stand alone novel. The writing is so engaging, now I'm looking forward to discovering the other novels in this series. Olive is an endearing character; she's inquisitive, loyal, and compassionate. She is also very human in coping with her fears after the ship disaster. There are multiple mysteries at play throughout the plot that kept me turning the pages and the author ties them all together nicely at the end. This novel holds a sweet touch of romance that I really enjoyed. The book leaves you with a satisfying, uplifting ending. Winner of 2022 Christy Award! Drawn by the Current, by Jocelyn Green. Wow! As someone who has been on multiple cruises the beginning of this story was like living out my biggest fear! Based on the actual sinking of the SS Eastland and the subsequent aftermath, I found this story very hard to put down. Danger and mystery with a touch of romance kept me engaged from beginning to end. If you have been in an abusive relationship, portions of this story may be triggering. I borrowed this book on Hoopla! #jocelyngreen #drawnbythecurrent #bhpfiction #bethanyhousepublishers #chicago #windycity #christianfictionromance #bookstagram #bookrecommendation #booksbooksbooks #booklover #bookaddict #booklove #christyawardwinner
