Golden Circle IJsland Wat is het magisch om de wonderen van IJsland te zien! 🌈 Regenbogen spotten bij de vele watervallen. Of je nu voor of achter een waterval loopt, het is genieten! Wij deden Fulfoss waterval, Faxafoss, Skógafoss, Seljalandsfoss. Picknicken bij borrelende geisers die met een sissend geluid kokend water de lucht in spuiten,…. ⛪️ In historische Thingvellir National Park wandel je tussen de continentale platen van Europa en Noord-Amerika. 🍅 Tomatensoep eten op de de populaire tomatenboerderij Friðheimar stond op de planning maar die ging blijkbaar al om 17 uur toe. 🗺️ Alles is goed aangegeven. Je kan er ook gewoon met Waze naartoe rijden. 🅿️ Overal zijn er grote parkings vlakbij de bezienswaardigheden. Die van Pingvellir is betalend! 🚾 Er zijn overal zeer nette voorzieningen. 🍽️ Bij de bezienswaardigheden zijn moderne gebouwen waar ze echt divers lekker eten en drinken verkopen. 🚘 De wegen zijn super! More from South Coast 🌊🌈 📍South Coast, Iceland 🇮🇸 ✨ Part 2 of EF Ultimate Breaks Iceland Winter Escape 🇮🇸 Day 2. ✨ After Skogafoss we headed to Vik for lunch. And since it was such a nice day we stopped at a viewpoint first.(photo 2) ✨ We then went into town for lunch, Alex picked up a sandwich to go and we went to have lunch on the beach. It was very serene and definitely a highlight of the trip. Plus while we were at the beach we got to see a seal 🦭🥹 (photo 1 & 3) ✨ After lunch in Vik we headed to Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach. With its enormous basalt stacks, roaring Atlantic waves, and stunning panoramas, Reynisfjara is widely considered to be the most beautiful example of Iceland’s black sand beaches. (Photo 4 & 5) ✨ However while visiting this beach you have to be very careful to not get too close to the water and never turn your back on the water because the sneaker waves are extremely dangerous! ✨ We then got to make an extra stop to see Sólheimajökulll which is an outlet glacier of the mighty icecap of Mýrdalsjökull. (Photo 6) ✨ Our last stop on the South Coast tour was Seljalandsfoss. When we arrived here Alex and I went straight to go to the secret waterfall (you can check it out in my highlights) and then had time to admire Seljanlandsfoss on the way back to the bus. We were drenched after the secret waterfall but it was so worth it 😍 (photo 7 & 8) ✨ We got back to Reykjavik around 6:40pm and went straight to Hlemmur Martholl one of Reykjaviks Food Halls to get dinner. We got Tacos from Fuego and spring rolls from Banh mi. ✨ After dinner we headed back to the hotel to head out on our northern lights tour. It was a relatively quiet aurora night but we still lucked out and got a little show 💜💚 (photo 9 & 10) ✨ Stay tuned for my next post from Iceland 🇮🇸 and follow for more travel content!

Finally getting around to posting on our #Iceland trip. First out of the gate to/from on @icelandair ... As I was taking my mom, I decided to upgrade us to premium, and I'm glad I did. We were able to use the Air France lounge at Dulles, which was crowded for a bit, but lovely respite from the usual hustle and bustle of IAD. The food on board was very good, staff were excellent, and the amenities bag was very cute and practical. Arrived on time and fairly easy to navigate the airport in Keflavik. The trek to the rental car is not for the tired, requiring long walk to a bus, and dealing with a crowd embarking/departing to shove through. Rented from @alamorentacar and, after a fairly long wait, was able to choose my SUV. I asked for the largest and got a @mazdausa CX-90 hybrid. At that point, I was also told that there was no way I was going to be able to do the trip I had planned due to road closures. While I appreciated the information and the doubling down on safety, I fretted about having to cancel half my trip for the first three days. While the roads that were closed opened up and the trip went as planned, this was not a great start. Not to mention the 2k charge possible if you took a rock to the windshield. Back to the car. I have owned a Mazda before and loved it. But I can say with absolute conviction that I will never, ever, ever buy this car. Due to low battery, I switched off hybrid setting, which was giving my range anxiety as the car battery sat at 25 percent. Despite reading the manual and finding the switch for the driver's assist, I was unable to turn it off... Dear Mazda, if you design driver's assist to violently sound alarms and attempt to take over steering every time a camera picks up a white line ... might I suggest that you test drive it in a region covered in snow and ice? This was so incredibly dangerous and stressed me out for the entirety of the trip. Not to mention, I am still sore from constantly fighting the car. @kef_airport on the way back... tragic. Not only did I not figure out where the lounge was until too late, the design of the airport gates is really poor. We had this system at DCA, gate 35x- we abolished it.
