Ancestor reverence Journeying with ancestors is a very personal experience. When exploring these ancient sites it is clear to me that the people of our ancient past held a deep connection with the earth and the cosmos. Their monoliths are the remaining physical expression of that connection. Laying in perfect alignment with the key energetic lines in the earth and positioned to mirror celestial bodies in our sky. I love that there is so much mystery surrounding these places, so many questions unanswered. I loved debating with my dad (a stone mason) about how they were built, him firmly holding the belief that ropes and ramps erected the stones and even antler picks were used to hand dig the vast ditches encircling these sites. I’m not buying it! I truly believe that our ancient ancestors harnessed technology that we do not have today. Why do we think we are more evolved than they were? Because we have our science? It feels to me that we have not risen, but fallen. Fallen away from the ancient knowledge that we are deeply connected to the earth, the stars and beyond. The earths body is our own and we must revere and respect her beauty and abundance. We must restore and maintain the balance and natural order. And that is what our ancestors knew in their bones, bones buried in the ground that we walk upon. Gathering wisdom from our ancient people is simple. You need only to ask. Call upon the illuminated ones, the healers, witches, wise ones, wild ones. The infinitely abundant ones. The ones who mastered the human experience. Ask them for their love, guidance and wisdom and you will quickly learn that you have an army at your back. Loving and assisting you in all areas of your life. Because they want you to succeed.

"The Offering" by @paullewinart This week, Yeye is uplifting the art of Paul Lewin. Born in Jamaica and now living in the Bay Area, Lewin bases his work in ancestral storytelling. Lewin said: "My mom would tell me stories about back in the old country where she grew up in Jamaica...I want each piece to tell a story in the same way that the stories have been passed down for generations, dating all of the way back to Africa." We admire Lewin's work as a way of communicating with the ancestors and keeping their stories alive. This piece may look boring to some but it’s significance to who I am is so important. You see, I’m the progeny of farmers. My mom was born at home, as was all of her family. They raised chickens, hogs, had a smokehouse, grew their own food, made medicine from herbs. They worked in tobacco for years. I can still smell it and remember my grandmother cautioning is not to touch them until they removed their clothes because the chemicals from the plants was harmful. They wore wide hats and long sleeves, pants, and boots to protect themselves from the elements of nature. I’ve been called to showcase them. Their back breaking labor is why I’m here. It can be eaten fresh or made into soursop nectar or dairy free ice-cream. NOW is the time to build our STRENGTH and IMMUNITY. In Ayiti the leaves are used for kidney and gall bladder problems and to eliminate inorganic calcium deposits in the joints. It has a calming effect and usually used for sleeping problems. It also strengthens the liver and the immune system to fight infection. Kowosol is used for a common tea blend for reducing tensyon in Ayiti..
