I'm working on a family ancestor wall downstairs. (Much thanks to @sahar1913 who keeps relaying those spiritual nudges!) My mom sent me this photo from the 1950s of my great-grandmother and great-grandfather outside of Matanzas, Cuba. My great-grandmother, who I called Abuela, lived well into her 90s and was alive until I was in 5th grade. She is a big part of my childhood memories. Offerings Sometimes, there is no time for long meditations, trance journeys, or long rituals. Last week was another where I had barely time alone (mostly in the car), but there is always time for an offering. I use my kitchen altar a lot for this. It's convenient because I am often in the kitchen, and in my home, it's the hearth, the place where "home" begins. The shot of whiskey is for a beloved person who passed away. At the funeral, I asked Hermes to guide his soul safely to the right place. The peony is for Aphrodite, who blessed me with so much love in my life. The vase with plants I collected here and there is for the spirits of the home. For peaceful coexistence. Life can be fast, but the spirits are with us. If we open our lives and our homes to them, it will be a rewarding experience. I repeatedly say how much I dislike the terminology "working with spirits/deities." In recent months I have sensed a new presence stepping forward into my orbit. Not ancestral, definitely not a local spirit, not exactly a deity either, but an entity essentially venerated as such. Popping up unexpectedly in states of non-ordinary reality via intense mediumistic meditations and dreams, then in real waking life through associated experiences, symbols and objects I’ve touched with my own hands. An accumulative effect, each event giving more weight to the previous which to me, feels intentionally directed and real, than merely coincidental. A few ideas are circulating in my head as to why they’ve approached me at this time, because although already a fan, I certainly did not seek them out. Having said that, I am open to working in collaboration but am mindful of treading with discernment in these early stages of exploration, and of course respectfully, always. I do have questions (many!) — so we shall see where this road takes us! Have you been approached to work with a guide, deity or spirit entity, that you weren’t fully expecting?
