My Mum’s responses can be one of few words or one of many… and sometimes very to the point. When I ask her what she thinks of something, sometimes I get a ‘Yeah it’s good’ and I’ll say ‘Just good’ and she’ll say ‘Yeah it’s Great.’ So why not say Great 🤨 and she said because you know I will think it’s great. So we had a conversation around it, sometimes you think is it not good, did you expect more? She said to me, ‘because nothing suprises me with you, in what you can achieve and create.’ Okay, so now we’re getting somewhere, 𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 🤣 I realised I do this with my own kids, as I believe they can achieve anything they set their minds to. We’re all determined and we like to achieve, and if we keep our eyes on the prize we can hit the goals we set for ourselves. Bodybuilding is not for the faint hearted, and it comes with the territory of the sport that ALL competitors (amateurs and pros alike) will eventually experience some degree of hunger, low energy, and mental/physical fatigue. FOODIE FRIDAY!! 😋😋😋 These little chocolate cakes are a delicious treat for your Mother's Day celebrations! They are gluten free and dairy free and a bit healthier than your regular cake. CHOCOLATE LAVA CAKES (4 servings) Ingredients 1/4 cup Coconut Oil (melted and cooled) 200ml Unsweetened Almond Milk (or milk of your choice) 1 teaspoon Apple Cider Vinegar 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract 1 cup Gluten-Free Flour 1/3 cup Coconut Sugar 1 1/2 tablespoons Cacao Powder 1 teaspoon Baking Powder 1/2 teaspoon Bicarb Soda 1/4 teaspoon Sea Salt 85g Dark Chocolate 80g Raspberries Method 1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees celsius. Grease four ramekins with extra oil. 2. In a large bowl, whisk the coconut oil, milk, vinegar, and vanilla. 3. Add the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, bicarb soda, and salt. Whisk until just combined. 4. Add half of the batter into each ramekin. Place the chocolate into the centre and then fill the ramekins with the remaining batter. 5. Place the ramekins on a tray and transfer to the oven. Bake for 14 to 15 minutes, until the sides are cooked through and the top is mostly firm to the touch. 6. Let cool a few minutes to continue cooking. Top with raspberries and serve. As your baby starts the exciting journey of transitioning to solid foods, encouraging self-feeding skills is a vital step in your child's development. It builds independence, fine motor skills, and helps them explore different tastes, textures and sensory aspects of foods. Some babies take to finger food like a duck to water, but for many babies the transition takes a little more support from parents. Here are some practical tips to help you navigate this developmental milestone: 1/ Bigger is better: Introduce larger pieces of food that are easy for tiny hands to grasp and chew, without choking. Foods should be no smaller than your index finger. Think ripe banana, cooked potato or sweet potato. 2/ Does it pass the Squish test? If you are able to easily squish the finger food between you index finger and thumb, then your baby will be able to manipulate the food with his/ her gums. 3/ Utensil Practice: While most babies won't master utensils until around 18 months, let them explore early. Provide soft-silicone or plastic spoons to play with and encourage their curiosity. Offering a spoon loaded with food will further develop their feeding skills and coordination. 4/ Embrace the Mess: Messy eating is part of the learning process. Stay patient and capture the adorable moments—it's all part of the fun! 5/ Practice makes Progress: Learning to eat is as much about your baby learning the skills of eating different foods as it is about you learning to read your baby’s cues. I spent two hours doing my quality assurance self assessment for the CRPO (College of Psychotherapists) this morning. After I got into it, I actually enjoyed it. Reflecting on my blind spots, what I do to take care of myself as a therapist, how I’ve handled complaints or negative feedback. Important things every therapist should regularly reflect on. . I then lost it all, pressed submit and it was gone. . So that was fun. . I laid on this couch at least 4 times in the last week. Once I completely passed out, two times just took a breath, and the other time was shared with Luisa as we chatted and rested after long day. . We take care of ourselves so we can take care of you. . I met someone today (while grabbing a quick gift at lunch) who asked where I worked. They then told me about a therapist they knew who wanted a job. I told her we weren't hiring but I would be happy to chat with them about the leap to private practice as a supervisor or informally. “Oh she doesn't need supervision” (totally innocent comment as she doesn't work in the field) but my instinct and lack of filter said “everyone needs a supervisor and for their entire career.” . Lots of new therapists out there. Therapists who are going to do an amazing job. Therapists who are eager and skilled. Therapists who may just need a reminder to go slow, don't hide away and never ever stop getting support. Private practice is not easy. . It's a trip being the older “Mom” therapist. Since it’s warming up and we’ll be in the middle of summer in no time, let’s get into SPF!⁠ ⁠ I’ll start by saying that this is a tricky topic that requires a nuanced conversation - this post is not meant to be a dissertation. ⁠ ⁠ Sun exposure is good for us in that it helps with vitamin D production, circadian rhythm balancing, hormonal health, and mental health. It’s necessary - we evolved as a species under the sun’s rays. ⁠ ⁠ AND, sun exposure can also be damaging to our skin in the form of aging, wrinkling, loss of elasticity, skin cancer, and cataracts. ⁠ ⁠ ⁠It’s a balance and every person’s threshold for sun tolerance is different. ⁠ ⁠ There are two types of SPFs on the market that block UVA/UVB rays; chemical sunscreens and physical sunscreens. ⁠ ⁠ When you need to wear SPF, which one do you choose?⁠ ⁠ Chemical sunscreens in the US usually contain a combination of the following active ingredients: oxybenzone, octinoxate, octinsalate, homosalate, octocrylene, and avobenzone.⁠ ⁠ Some of these ingredients have been linked to:⁠ ⁠ 💥 Endocrine disruption⁠ 💥 Skin allergies⁠ 💥 Skin sensitivity⁠ 💥 Hormone disruption⁠ 💥 and negative impacts on marine ecosystems⁠ ⁠ In the US we only have a small handful of sunscreen ingredients that have been approved for use by the FDA. I graduated after 2+ years of study from an internationally recognized & accredited Holistic Nutritionist Advanced Certification curriculum, during which I was trained in-depth on anatomy & physiology, symptomatology, and mind/body nutrition, as well as coaching skills. Who else 😂 major tip below⤵️ Here’s the thing, any diet out, there can result in weight loss… But if you hate the plan and it’s not sustainable to eat that way, the weight loss won’t be sustainable either. In my 3 month group coaching program I guide clients on exactly how many servings of foods to eat, so they have a formula for the day. This formula allows them to be in charge of food preferences, not me, no strict meal plans over here. My clients need flexibility throughout their day, from work lunches, to dinners with the family and jam packed weekends. They need a plan that can keep up with each of these situations! Here are 5 meal prep-friendly ways to use mince! We are very pro-prepping something to make your life easier and meal prep doesn’t need to be anything super crazy. Keep these meal ideas in the freezer for your next “I can’t be bothered to cook” night. 1. Bolognese The staple. I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you how to make your bolognese but make sure you load it with tonnes of veggies and serve with your favourite high-fibre or lentil pasta for an extra tick in the box. 2. Mexican mince Burritos. Tacos. Nachos. Burrito Bowls. The options are endless with Mexican mince. Don’t forget to add those beans for extra veg, plant protein and fibre! 3. Meatballs It is a labour of love, but soooo worth it. Hot tip - if you don’t have a large saucepan to brown your meatballs you can use the oven instead. Either load your pasta sauce with veggies or serve with a simple salad. 4. Savoury Mince Looking for a prep-friendly, winter, high-protein breakfast option? Then look no further than the good old-fashioned savoury mince! 5. Meat Patties The simplest option to prep and honestly, this one pays in dividends.
