When I think about my mom I associate two flowers with her- daisies and hydrangeas. She always had hydrangea bushes in her yard and every summer there would be beautiful pitchers of hydrangea blooms whenever they would have a backyard cookout with family or friends. I really wanted to have something hydrangea bushes and a dear family friend gave me 3 bushes. That was 3 years ago. This is the first year they have had any buds or blooms. These started off a very pale green color and are slowly changing colors as they get larger. The lilies have started blooming. Admittedly, I’m just not a fan. I think they are nice in other people’s gardens, but I don’t care for them in mine. But these came with the house when we bought it. They’ve kinda grown on me. And I do look forward to their blooms - though I’m not a fan of that bright red color either. Even my phone doesn’t know what so do with that bright color! There used to be a ton more - but the voles ate them. And somehow, I’ve moved them enough to where the voles haven’t found them yet.

I had a dahlia stalk break off 😫💔 So I am attempting to propagate it. I cut at each node and then cut back the leaves. I also used a rooting hormone on the stem. Today was a full and productive garden day. I watered the plants in the greenhouse first. I'm still holding on to hope of getting a cabbage, but it may just be too warm in there. Then, I mixed up fish fertilizer for the garden. While I was working on that, Cody cut a tree limb that had fallen on our new garden fence in the last big storm. Luckily there wasn't any damage. Finally, we put in a few posts and strung some leftover fence for a tomato trellis. Of course we ran out of fence, but we got most of the almost 80 tomatoes trellised. AND the highlight of the day was finding another tomato baby. Today was garlic day!! First time planting and thanks to @thedallasgardenschool I think I think I did ok. I forgot to note when I planted, but her tips helped me estimate when it was ready to pull. I didn’t buy specific garlic to plant and just threw a few cloves in the ground from the fridge so I had low expectations and chose, as she says, to “treat it like an experiment” and was pleasantly surprised. If you’re in North Texas, zone 8a/8b (whatever we are now) I highly suggest a follow. She is a wealth of information, kind and so inspirational when it comes to the garden. We’ve gotten so much rain in the last month!!!! Something told me not to transplant my tomatoes and peppers until after Mother’s Day this year and I’m so glad I did they would have ended up with root rot!! I had to pull onions early this season, but it is what it is! Cantaloupe is doing amazing, my artichokes are finally heading and cucumbers are sprouting😊Hopefully it’s sunny days ahead and we can dry out!
